Wanted: Method for increasing HQ drops.

When I'm out looking for HQ crafting materials, I can use Unearth III (mining) or Leaf Turn III to get a 30% boost for HQ collecting for 300 GP

However, if I have to kill things for material drops, there's no way to increase the HQ rate, and it usually takes forever to get enough. We need an equivalent for gathering beast drop items.

Lacking a resource like GP on DPS character, I suppose they could just increase the HQ drop rate to be equivalent to a gatherer using the 30% boost on 5, or 6-item nodes with cordials when available.

I second this, although I'm not sure about the best way to implement it.

Do you treat it like gathering classes? Do you add a role action for combat jobs?

I dont see why not I mean fighting abunch of enemies to get HQ is just as challenging and time consuming as playing a crafting mini game.

Personally I'd do exactly as you said and just increase the HQ drop rate.

A role action might work. Increase HQ drops by 30% for the next 5 kills, with a 2m cooldown.

I'd just rather have a 4th gather. Maybe called a trapper or something. Where they can just gather the items that are combat drops only right now. Idc even if it was rng similar to Fisher for the creature you get for those items.

Maybe they could use the atual chain system to reward on chain 4 a HQ with 100% chance, without removing chance of HQ drop from other chains.

Rather than additional skills or items, or a flat HQ rate increase, maybe HQ rates should scale with level.
At equal level to the enemies, it's the current HQ rate, and it increases from there up to 50% at say 10 or 20 levels higher.

Either a craft-able item(s) (think Bacon Broth and Tinker's Calm for Careful Desynthesis) or perhaps a new Squadron Manual.

Personally having to get mats from mobs alone is a real pain in the a**. So I had decided to go another method. Retainers. I have nine retainers and currently have at least 5 of them out getting me specific mats that are rough and useful in major crafts from Twincoons, Manzasiri Hair, Gazelle Hide, etc. Had been able to get roughly near 300 in only a few days(reseting at max about 2-3 per day unless weekend.) And with each I had obtained at least 100+ HQ mats. The retainer brings back 10 total each trip. This is the best alternative imho to getting monster mob mats.

I know it’s not a complete list but can’t your combat retainers farm up hides and bone and whatnot and usually bring in a fair amount of HQ based on their gear?

My point made above. XD Best alternative currently for it yea.

The simplest method will be HQ drop Materias (only for battle classes). Or 30 minutes GC scroll

What do you need HQ materials for? Crafting is plenty easy enough already.

I bet most crafters, myself included, would rather HQ monster drops be impossible to reduce inventory clutter.

Definitely put those slave's errr hard working DoW/DoM retainers that are in your employ to work. Provide them with the appropriate gear, they come back with HQ stuff. Get your ventures from the GC with seals. You will be swimming in HQ mats.

Ive been saying this for years, not that retainers are an awful alternative but you do have to wait for them to return, thats not really good if you have something youre itching to craft or make, esp if youre trying to level. There used to be a Rog ability that increases drop rate chances. that helped a little-killing them with a rog/nin but its still a cd and takes forever.

Yeap. I rarely farm animal parts myself. I usually get my retainers to do it because they're far more likely to get hq drops than I am.

Farming HQ Wyvern and HQ Archaeornis skin makes me want to rip my hair out. I agree with at the very least increasing the baseline drop rate of HQ materials from monsters from what it's at to a additional 30% to at least make it bearable farming monster drops.

how about making HQ chance get lowered by 5% with every level you or you gear is above the enemy you killed, because the enemy just explodes when you kill it with 1 hit.

keep in mind having hq mats rare is kind of the purpose of it being rare you know? keeps the economy active and up for those items on the market board.

If I remember right didn't one of the live letters show in the FATE changes for ShB that with the currency you would be able to buy HQ mats from the vendor? That is a very good start at least to help this issue in ShB.

I need them for crafting job quests that require HQ items.
Just now, I did my level 25 BS quest for a HQ steel ingot. I mined HQ bomb ash and used NQ iron ore. Couldn't get past 60% HQ, but one finally popped at around 20% after a bunch of Hasty Touch fails. Usually, I just wait until I'm about 5+ levels past the one where I got the quest before attempting it.
I'm working on my retainers now. Both at level 14, botanist and Rogue

Once again, for the level 58 Weaver quest. Make 3 spindles of HQ crawler silk. No way I can do this without all HQ materials.

Silkworm Cocoons: I go to the timed node as botanist, Pop Leaf Turn III, and then Bountiful Harvest II for most of the picks, and end up with 30 HQ cocoons!

Crawler Cocoons: I need to kill crawlers in Hinterlands for these.
So far, 66 NQ ones, ZERO HQ.
So annoying. Makes crafting a real chore if it needs dropped materials for HQ.

Idea: Let us level sync with the mobs or zone, but make all the drops HQ. You have to work harder and longer, but at least you can get them when you need them.

I don't understand this. If you don't need HQ items, just use 'Lower Quality' to make them normal. I mean, I remember the clutter in ARR years ago but at some point they introduced that Lower Quality and it's been a lifesaver for my inventory.

Just use an actual crafting rotation along with level appropriate gear. Failing that, powerlevel via Moogles to 60, buy some gear from Rhalgr's and then laugh at how HQ crafting is these days.

I think this has largely been rendered irrelevant by the Gemstone Trading system introduced with Shadowbringers, along with the (in my estimation, overly-generous) increase in the impact HQ ingredients can have. It doesn't help with pre-Shadowbringers materials, but, then again, with the increased level cap, each and every one of those recipes is now trivial to HQ with or without HQ ingredients.

I wouldn't advocate for this, but I would wholeheartedly welcome a pair of DoH / DoL abilities that reduce HQ chance to 0%. While it's easy enough to lower quality, it nevertheless would be a huge QoL improvement to not even have to worry about it when gathering lower-level ingredients or quick-synthing large quantities of materials.

I wouldn't advocate for this, but I would wholeheartedly welcome a pair of DoH / DoL abilities that reduce HQ chance to 0%. While it's easy enough to lower quality, it nevertheless would be a huge QoL improvement to not even have to worry about it when gathering lower-level ingredients or quick-synthing large quantities of materials.

The only sure way I can get HQ from NQ stuff is to outlevel the recipe by 10-20. It's a bit easier now that I learned to use ToT to regain CP instead of just using goods on touches. I finally finished the WVR level 62 job quest with 487 Craftsmanship, 447 Control, and couldn't get near 100% quality on any of the crafts with all HQ mats. I think I was in the 50-80% range each time when I ran out of resources, but I got lucky enough to produce the three HQ items without too many blown attempts.
My usual rotation is:
CS until progress is one more CS from top
Inner Quiet
Steady Hand II
Hasty Touches until SHII runs out,. (Use ToT when Good status comes up,
Refresh SHII
Master's Mend when durability = 10.
And, finally, when there's just enough CP, Great Strides on Byregot's Blessing.
The end usually comes when I run out of CP, with around 3 durability left.

So... basically your problem is that you're not making use of all the skills you have at hand.

You're missing out on extra CP by not using comfortzone and you're "wasting" CP on Masters Mend when the leatherwork skill (which name I forgot, because ist not being used anymore once you get Prudent Touch) costs less. Same goes for Manipulation. Both require a bit more careful planning, but are more viable than just using Masters Mend. For recipes above or at your level Ingenuity is also very helpful.
With your culinary at 62 you also have access to Muscle Memory, which should give you a lot more progress than CS.

I dont have a crafter at hand to "test" this right now, but your rotation should look a little more like this:
Muscle Memory
Comfortzone
Inner Quite
Leatherworker-Skill which name I forgot
Steady Hand II
Hasty Touches until SH2 runs out
Manipulation
SH2+HT again
-playing around a bit with durability+progress+CP-

You want to finish with 3 stacks of Steady Hand or Steady Hand 2 still left to do the following (in an ideal world it would be 4 stacks, so you could use Innovation aswell):
+Great Strides
+Ingenuity
-> Byregots Blessing

You should still have 4 stacks of Ingenuity now that you can use to buff your CS, so you'll need less of those to actually finish the craft - you just need to pay attention how many you'll actually need and save enough dura for the end.

Battle Retainers Hunting ventures can easily farm mats that are usually dropped by mobs xD. They usually bring back 10 per hour for 2 ventures.

If HQ items really were useful sure but as it stands now anyone that half way enjoys crafting can craft HQ items using NQ with ease. I'm not just talking about current content but even in SB.

Most of the times while I'm gathering I wish I could just disable HQ gathering. I'm sick of lowering the quality so I only have 1 stack taking up inventory space.

Thinking about Stormblood... since the OP seems to struggle so much with HQing stuff for their quests here is a little "FYI" (not your information, Krojack, but theres) in that regard: in Stormblood you wont craft normal recipes anymore for your quests but special recipes that you'll get the materials for. The materials are always NQ, they dont come in HQ and its up to your skill as crafter and knowing how to craft to make those items. Maybe its worth learning the ins and outs now already...

And while you can buy HQ-drops in Shadowbringers with the currency you get from FATEs I barely needed them and could slap myself for not mentioning this to the people I asked to spend overflowing currency for me... I got so many HQ-skins and I cant bring myself to turn them NQ (like the ones I bought), because that feels rude...

It does, but not for free since it has other effects. As a result, it's entirely insufficient for the type of scenario I'm referring to. The QoL benefit would require something like a toggle stance along the lines of Collector's Glove or Collectable Synthesis that I could throw up whenever I'm gathering or crafting lower-tier items that don't benefit from being HQ'd.
