So...about that Shadowbringers trailer.

It confirmed some suspicions I had, such as the Sin Eaters being light-corrupted lifeforms and Eulmore being involved in some kind of pact with them in exchange for its relative safety.

That stinger (Assuming it's actually the truth, considering who it's coming from...) changes my perspective on everything, though, and makes me think there might be even greater forces at play then Hydaelyn and Zodiark.

I dont see why people are surprised that the sin eater used to be people / living beings. I mean, that was already the case with the voidsent from the 13th Shard.so I don't see why it would have been any different this time especially that light and dark keep being portrayed as the same thing just opposed. Like positive and negative charges to put it simply.

I think the surprise comes from us being told in 3.X that a Void of Light, unlike a Void of Darkness, does not have any living things in it. The Void of Darkness only corrupts lifeforms and turns them into Voidsent, it doesn't erase them, but they are aether deprived (also feeding on living aether???) and thus want to be summoned into our world to have something to feed on; just for them, as I understand it, aether deprivation just causes them pain/discomfort/hunger, and doesn't erase them outright? Under this premise, Sin Eaters essentially being living beings feels like a retcon of how the Void of Light works; if it erases all light and just leaves a perfect, blank space, then how come Sin Eaters are essentially light-elemental Voidsent?

However, thinking about it came to the conclusion that one does not preclude the other. It is explicitly stated in the trailer that Sin Eaters need living aether to survive. However, if the Void of Light erases all live, then how do Sin Eaters survive? They would have nothing to feed of, so there's a chance that they themselves will cease to exist in a Void of Light, bringing us back to the first claim that nothing exists in a Void like that. It is possible, though we might never know.

Just to clarify we were never told this in-game but by Koji himself during an interview.

The First isn't a 'Light Void' though is it, it's in the process of becoming one. Much like the Void on the thirteenth probably isn't a true aethervoid, because beings exist.
It's like, space is not a true vacuum, if there's things in it.

Voidsent are aether-starved, while Sineaters are aether-gluttons.
This means that Voidsent sustain themselves through their actions, they cling onto 'life' by seeking out aether.
Sineaters fulfilling their nature would instead keep gorging on aether until they reach a tipping point and that aether consumes everything, and there's nothing but pure light aether left.

Except that line implies that the 13th is, indeed, a dark void. Koji explicitly states that they are very different and that things can exist in the dark void, but not the light void. Therefore, while the Sin Eaters will most likely wipe themselves out when the light void is complete, the voidsent can exist in their dark void.

I do agree with on the rest, though, and I actually think that is why voidsent can exist in their void... if that makes sense.

Well I think both is true. If the flood of light had managed to consume the whole World there would be nothing and a total empty Light Void. But Minfillia stopped the Flood before it was able to consume everything so thats the Source of the SinEaters. A world full of Light and Ather but not completly Void because it was stopped and so new never before known creatures where created

That cannot be true, or else the White Mages of Amdapor couldn't have created guardian statues in their liking during the 6th Umbral Calamity. I think it was in one of the lore panels that Koji said they were essentially crafted after the liking of some creatures from another world the Amdapori came across. At least that's what I remember. Their statues (the winged lion and Kuribu), however, are clearly based on Sin Eaters, there is no denying that, so there had to be Sin Eaters somewhere back then already.

Well but in the Trailer they already stated that time flows different between the worlds and that could explain everything. Time shananigans etc etc

They specifically said the rift between worlds which allows people to see the future, but we can also agree on your interpretation as well to an extent.

They said it's the rift, not the First. It would be extremely weird if the Shards were not in sync with the Source time-wise, really. Yoshida also implied that we have the same passing of time in both worlds if my tired brain understood today's liveletter correctly.

Yes but they also said it has been 100 years since the Flood of Light/when the Sin Eaters started attacking. When the Heroes of the 1st came to the Source, the Flood was JUST beginning, and then they went back home with Minfillia. We assume that Minfillia stopped the Flood of Light BEFORE the Sin Eaters started attacking, because now they could 'persist' since it has stopped. It has not been 100 years for us, but it has been for the 1st is the thing that is tripping people up here and the whole time dynamics of this situation.

The First is going to be using Eorzean Time so that gatherers don't have to worry about keeping track of different timezones. It's the same reason why there isn't an Othardian Time despite it being on the other side of the world from Eorzea.
