My Aetheryte Earring isn't giving bonus.

(Please read the full description. I would rather not be bombarded with "It only works on monster kills, moron!") K, Thanks.

Ok. So, I just bought the Shadowbringers expansion in hopes of leveling my characters. I activate my code, get the earring and the minion. Cool, all seems well. I put the earring on and noticed I wasn't getting extra exp from dungeons. Did some research and apparently it only works on mob kills.

Ok, no big deal (although, it should be stated on the earring that it only works for mobs and not dungeons and trials and what not.) Anyway, I got to kill some mobs and noticed I'm only getting 80% exp, (1218 exp to be exact.). I take the earring off and I get...80% (1218 to be exact...)

Is there a reason my earring doesn't work? It also has a yellow circle with a squiggle line through it and yellow letters when i hover over it.

Please help.

don't know why it isn't working but the yellow stuff and the circle with the squiggle is the sync symbol and info

Could you be a bit more specific:

-What was the monster you were killing and it's approx or exact level?
-What was your level while you were killing it
-Where? (dgn, overworld, F.A.T.E, Potd, etc)

Monster: Gyuki, I think the name is. (Giant walrus thing)

Location: ruby sea, located on the north most island west of the town. (Just a random mob in the world)

Level: My level is 62 and the mobs level is 62.

That would make more sense if the item level dropped to the appropriate ilvl for my level. But it stays at 290 even equipped.

That's just how synced items display. It doesn't show the adjusted value it just makes it yellow and adds the symbol to signify that the current effective value is lower than what's being displayed on the tooltip rather than have to tool tip dynamically update as your level changes.

The only non-glitch way for it to not give you exp at that level for that type of mob, as far as I am aware, would be that it is broken and you never got it repaired, but that seems extremely unlikely. Also as an aside, all exp buffs; including the armoury bonus; FC action 'Heat of Battle'; and the exp buffs from gears; only work on exp gained from mob kills.

EDIT: Apparently you can also reach an exp buff cap, but I have no idea what that cap is and thus if you have reached it or not.

I can assure you I dont have cap on exp buffs. I am out of food and i dont buy things from my FC to increase exp. The only thing I'm trying to use to increase my exp atm is the earring. It's not broken either as I just opened the mail last night right before bed and only started testing it today after work.

I just don't know why I'm not gettin more exp. I sent a bug report but I dont think I'll get a response before the 28th since it's so close to release. It sucks cause not only do I want to level this characters astrologian before SHB I want to level my alts characters to. I have a 62 BLM, 21 rogue and 2 more that I just created yesterday.

All EXP%+ items only affect kill exp, but I agree that the items should say that. Armory Bonus and Road to 60 are the only two things that can affect exp from other sources (armory works on fates/leves/potd, Road to 60 doubles exp from all sources including quests).

If you had no other +exp effects, +80% is what you should be getting with the earring and armory bonus on your level 62 job fighting a level 62 mob. If you still got +80% after you removed the earring, it was likely from chain kill exp (you get +20% from chain 1 and +5% for each chain after on a mob the same level, but I'm not sure if higher level mobs increase that at all). Either way, +80% is the correct amount for earring+armory if you didn't have rest exp or FC buffs or food etc.

+80% EXP would presumably be 50% rested bonus and 30% from the earring.

Unless there's something I've missed, it sounds like more of a glitch that you aren't getting reduced to +50% when you take the earring off!

Although I do remember at one point I was getting a strange total of EXP boosts that didn't seem to add up with what effects I should have had. (From memory, a ~Lv58 warrior - one of my last leveled classes - getting 170% bonus out of the armoury +100% and rested +50%. Could not work out where I'd be picking up the extra from.)

Also, I'm not certain but I think the EXP boost applies to mobs in dungeons, just not the big bonuses you get from completion or roulettes.

It wasn't from a chain kill, I assure you. A chain kill gets me 100% exp bonus. Unless the earring applies to me while it's in my bag. But everywhere I see they say it has to be equipped.

And I would believe you if I got 50% with my earring off. But I get 80% with it on and off. Until I can get clarification from SE or someone who has gone through this then I'm going to treat this as a bug.

A bug that, based off my admittedly minimal testing, seems to be only affecting you for the time being. I tested mine on two alts, a lower level one on ROG while comparing no earring, the Ala Mhigan Earring, and the Aetheryte Earring, and one on a higher level alt on RDM with a Gyuki, the same monster you were testing on. Granted, I couldn't replicate the same test environment (I don't have AST to 60 on any of my alts and my main is capped (not on my forum profile)), so I can't say if there's another element to this, but my Aetheryte Earrings are functioning as expected: a +30% EXP bonus to mob kills on top of my rested (+50%) and armory bonuses (+50% (Lv60+)/+100% (Lv1-59)).

Have you tested it on anything besides your AST? I feel like we need more data before we can make a solid judgment on what's happening here. It'd be simultaneously hilarious and sad if it didn't work with AST exclusively for some reason.

Fwiw, chain bonus isn't +100%, it's a value that ramps up as your chain increases. I'm pretty sure the first chain bonus is +30%, so that could be what was going on if you were testing this quickly.
