Crafters rejoice!

So, upon logging back in to the game I thought I'd take a look at the adjustments to xp earned due to quality. One of the first things I noticed is that I seem to get a lot more quality from careful synthesis: A minimum of 20 on a failure, and highest I've seen on a success without abilities was around 70. Then I noticed the xp multiplier at the end. Drastic... doesn't even begin to describe it. Even with the few abilities available to me at level 20, I can push the multiplier up to +288%. That's almost 4x the xp (As this is added to the base 100%).

Near as I can tell, there is a sliding scale of sorts: Increasing quality increases the multiplier less as your added quality rises (Starting quality from HQ ingredients has no impact on the multiplier whatsoever), so for example getting +70 quality will give you a +70% multiplier, but +340 quality gives a +260% multiplier. So, this means boosting quality as high as you can will give you the most xp for your synth, but won't necessarily give you the best xp for your time. However, tossing in a careful synthesis or two (Especially when the orb is red and will thus increase quality even further) is well worth your while.

So, anyone else really liking this change?

That sounds freaking sweet! I can't to try crafting again.

I think this is the change a lot of people were waiting for to return to crafting.

With Rested xp and XP manuals now being purchasable with gil, leveling your crafts isn't as slow as it used to be.

Some crafts can easily get 2000-3000exp per synth.. I got bonus regularly of 385% which were giving me 1800+exp

Thank goodness! Now i can stop having to do caravan runs and switching to GSM right before the duty is finished for decent xp :P!!

Guess you missed out lol. Yeah it worked, all my battle classes are pretty high so i had to make caravan runs amount to something other than 150-300 measly seals. :P

I'm loving the changes! Big difference. Crafting feels less painful, and my choices seem to have a bigger impact. The exp is flowing and it's great. Thumbs up!

I must have missed the part about XP manuals. Does the GC sell them for gil now or where can I get them for gil?

I dont think you can get them with gil, only company seals. There are Tier II manuals too, though i havent used one yet, Tier II manuals + rested XP will do wonders for crafting. :)

You can buy them from new Qiqirn NPC's for 100k gil or 1k seals each (tier 2 manual), tier 1 are a bit cheaper. These NPC's also sell Aetherpasses and some other stuff like Spiritbond +1 items.

My favorite part of this update is how it encourages boosting your statistics when grinding DoH. I'm considering getting stat boosting potions to boost my quality rate even more.

It does encourage it indeed. I think I would like to upgrade my crafting set about 10 levels worth.

I like the quality bonus multiplier reward much more now. Before, the bonus didn't seem worth the risk to me. Now I'm thinking about Blinding Speed with two Rapids and trying to Careful synth the rest of the way with Preserve, Fulfillment, and some other fun stuff (as I learn more about it).

Loving this new crafting update.

It is Engaging.

It is simple.

It let you decide how challenging you want it to be.

It lets people who dont like crafting continue there mindless blind grind.


All we need now is a Crafting SKills overhaul to fit the new system and a recipe book!

I may be the only one disappointed in the crafting xp. Getting up to 2k a synth seems a bit high to me.

2000 does sound/seem pretty high. Although in a twisted sense, it's almost like an XP chain of sorts.

The most I saw finishing up a leve was 830ish making a Steel Falchion with about 110ish quality.

I imagine with the +50% rested bonus coupled with a manual with the higher quality modifier could really boost exp (if they're all allowed to stack that is).

I don't disagree, but I would rather the Crafting XP be as high as the Combat XP since they absolutely refuse to fix that.

Also, to hit 2k xp you have to take twice as much time on a single synth. So you are actually not getting significantly higher XP/hr. You do save a TON of money on mats though.

Perhaps the exp gain is a little bit high.

But, at least we'll level up our crafts - you know, crafting and not doing primal or caravan runs.

Manuals are 400 seals and are sweeeeeet

Honestly, I feel if anything should be easy to level, it should be crafting. The grind associated with crafting often makes it borderline useless, as it floods the markets with goods, and it's not like it really impacts the difficulty of battle much.

Or beating Ifrit over and over. I got LTW from 48 to 50 almost exclusively using Ifrit runs...

Just managed to get 600% exp bonus on crafting from increasing quality by about 750 (50% chance to HQ and it didn't. orz)

While crafting EXP has increased drastically with the quality bonus, there is also a new problem of increased failures that I am having. If all I do is standard synth, I will fail 90% of the time because I am getting a variable 8-25% progress completion, and 10-18 durability loss EVERY time. With Careful synth, I only get 7-10 durability loss, but also only 3-5% progress completion. It doesn't take much math to figure +8% and -15 durability will leave you without enough durability to even attempt a synth after a few attempts. And I am having this issue on my lv28-30 crafts using lv28 velveteen gear and most recent upgrades to tools. For crafting levequests, this is the worst option, as it makes it more likely that you will fail to complete the leve, and most leves are giving items that are not as useful at the current level of the crafter. (example: lv30 weaver leves give diremite webs, used for a lv23 recipe only, instead of flax, which is used for a lv33 recipe).

Use rapid synthesis. Success on a rapid synth incurs no durability loss at all.

The worst thing SE could have done to crafting was make Standard Synthesis have an increased durability loss rate. Standard Synthesis used to allow me 0-20 durability loss, with 0-8 on successful attempts, and 9-20 on failed attempts, now I get 10-12 loss on almost every attempt, success or fail. I have just failed 4 of 5 attempts on a synthesis leve with a recipe that I did many times before 1.21 was released, and the only reason I failed was the base durability loss on every attempt.

Rapid incurs no durability loss IF successful, if it fails, you lose 20-40 durability.

Read my post up above. Also, more craftmanship/mag. craftmanship may help if you're lacking in those areas.

I'm not lacking, as I was able to perform these same recipe synths with no problem before 1.21, it is the base durability loss on every attempt that is killing my crafting, and I have tried rapid, and most of the time it fails, leaving me even less durability than before. I'm using lv28 tool, lv28 crafting based gear, and a lv28 craft, other than food, there's no other way to boost craftsmanship/magic craftsmanship beyond where I am at presently. SE needs to reduce the standard durability loss, it shouldn't be a 10-15% loss to starting durability on the default action.
The patch notes describe the synthesis change with:
'•The use of standard synthesis, rapid synthesis, or careful synthesis changes how quickly durability is consumed and how quickly progress and Quality increase.
•Standard synthesis increases progress and consumes more durability.
•Rapid synthesis does not increase Quality.
•Careful synthesis dramatically increases Quality.
•A set amount of durability is consumed regardless of whether or not the standard synthesis or careful synthesis succeeds.
By checking the remaining durability, it is now easier to determine how many synthesis attempts remain. If rapid synthesis succeeds, durability is not consumed at all.'

That is the problem with the change, it shouldn't take more durability for the default action, it should remain default and therfore a balanced action. By checking the remaining durability, I have 5-10 attempts (from start), and it is taking me 10-12 attempts to complete a recipe. Do the math, 5 attempts remaining, and 10 attempts needed to complete, means you WILL fail. I've even had recipes 10 levels below me fail because of the base durability loss now.

Control build is best for conserving durability.

These changes are awesome, getting crazy XP, can finally finish my weaver off.

Use this

Put in craft, lvl and select control in the stat drop down box.

I don't post here often but I have to say I am loving the new crafting system... I didn't realize that "HQ reform" also included fixing the other things that sucked about crafting. I love that all 3 basic crafting options have a good use and I'm not just mashing standard. I love the increased xp, and that there's actually a tangible reward for trying for quality now even if you don't get an HQ (since you're almost never going to get an HQ starting with NQ materials unless it's super-low level).

The HQ chances feel really well balanced, too. Using all HQ materials starts you out in the HQ zone, and doing really well puts me at 25%-50% chance for HQ. Using a mix of NQ and HQ starts you out without any chance to HQ, but close enough that you can get like 10-20% if you do well. And all NQ will rarely give you a chance to HQ, unless you do really well, and then there's a small chance. From all the crafting I've done today, I feel like HQs are actually earned now instead of being an utter crapshoot.

So yeah, color me quite happy. Now if only they'd change the default crafting gear set to doublets instead of coatees... but that's another post...

I love the new synth being able to gain more exp and better quality is great. It's made it a lot better for me to try and figure the best method when crafting to get xp and progress in balance.

ok... i asume your lvl 28/30 so doing lvl 30 leves... if your strugling with completion why dont you try doing the lvl 20 ones and lvl 10 ones and careful the shit out of them to get massive exp boosts.. lower recipe means easier to complete also better chance of not failing.

this is what i would do.. also personally ide just grind on a recipe that was cheap and easy to complete doing careful without doing leves pre 35/40 anyway the bonus from leves pre 40 is quite shit especialy since u can now get such huge quality bonus.

sadly i alrady have my crafts at 50 so this isnt as enjoyable for me ;p.. though it makes sb gear while crafting much easier ;).. and frankly i am all for this exp boost since once they raise the cap it will be most welcome when its 100k+-200K+ a lvl... 1-3k a synth that 100 or there abouts synths per lvl thats not to bad can normaly do 30-50 crafts a hour ish so a couple hours per lvl at a guestimate
