PLD 5.0 Thread

I see some threads talking about WAR and DRK, didn't see any active ones for PLD, so figured I'd just make one.

I was cautiously optimistic after the job trailer, but seeing the changes I'm pretty excited.

Gap closer will be nice, but it looks like both parts of our rotation will get spiced up. The sword oath stacks to spend on atonement after we get goring blade up. And then adding an aoe version of holy spirit, and a big finisher for the end of requiscat for st or aoe, on top of requiscat making the spells instant? Yes please. I feel this will make the spell part of the rotation a lot more fun and a little, if only slightly, more involved by swapping to the finisher for the last spell.

For aoe in particular this will be great, no more will dungeon pulls just be 'CoS, flash a few times, spam total eclipse.' This will make those dungoen roulettes much less dull. It's almost a little sad to say goodbye to flash after all this time, but the new combo off of total eclipse and working aoe into our requiscat phase more than makes up for it.

The shelltron change will make it more useful for aoe situations or for multi hit tankbusters like Shinryu's ank morn.

All in all I feel like this is a good evolution of the job without having to give it a huge overhaul that feels completely different.

As far as I can make out it's going to be something like:

Paladin AOE Rotation: Requiescat -> Holy Circle x4 -> Confiteor -> Fight or Flight -> (Total Eclipse-> Prominance) until full MP -> Repeat
Paladin ST Rotation?: Fast Blade -> Riot Blade -> Fight or Flight -> Goring Blade -> Royal Authority Combo -> Atonement x3 -> Goring Blade Combo -> Requiescat -> Holy Spirit x4 -> Confiteor -> Goring Blade Combo -> Royal Authority Combo -> Atonement x3

The biggest thing is how our AOE rotation will... actually be a rotation similar to the one we currently get on single targets.

The only thing that might affect that is a trait which further increases Riot Blade's MP restoration.

Yeah. The aoe changes will be great for dungeons. Not super complicated but more involved than 'circle of scorn, flash as much as you need to keep enmity over the dps you have, spam total eclipse.'

I've been saying that only guaranteeing one block is dumb, because there's always a decent chance you would have blocked that same attack natively anyways. No, with it guaranteeing blocks for 6 seconds total, it's actually worthy of being a major gauge spender

Im enthralled with these changes. My main just got alot more interesting now. :cool:

I've always used Sheltron to mitigate tankbusters in Stormblood.

It helped regen MP to fix my rotation if I had to clemency someone.

It helped me regen MP to Holy Spirit when I was out of TP from AOEing.

It's always been useful from my perspective, but now has the additional role of being useful for multi-hit tankbusters. It'll act as a more effective version of Bulwark during big pulls.

Yes.

But the dink of a boss sometimes weaves an auto attack in before a tank busting mechanic lands, like Chaos and Orbs.

My thoughts after playing nothing but PLD since 2.0

What is Paladin bad at?
- Gap closing
- AOE
- Can't block while casting
- Tank stancing

Okay! Let's give Paladin two gap closers, three new AOE's, instant cast spells during Req spam, a sustained Sheltron, and an instant non-gcd Tank Stance.

PLD gets a new trait named oath mastery that increase you gauge by 5 every time you dealt a auto attack ^^

Thanks, I was wondering about that too and missed that detail earlier.

We don't get to keep gaining oath gauge when spamming holy spirit too do we? Would be neat if we got a slow steady fill from auto attacks and a burst fill during requiscat phase. But maybe both is a bit much since the latter requirse shield oath now.

holy spirit description don't mention you will get any gauge from it so i take it as a no, but the toolkits are uncomplete and can be change in the final version so idk.

Also seems like Convalescence was removed since Requiescat was buffed from 20% to 50%. Self-Clemency's will still be huge, but only during your Req-spam (self-preservation mode)

You do auto-attacks inbetween Holy Spirits, but Holy Spirits pause them. As long as you are in melee range you will be auto-attacking and accumulating some gauge, just less while casting things.

Of course, they could alter that.

So folks coming up with theorycrafted rotations, but I've got a question...according to Gamerescape, Atonement is off the global...so why would you just go with 3 atonements at the end of a RA combo? Right now folks are theorizing that the combo would be Fast Blade>Riot Blade>Goring Blade into FB>RB>Royal Authority, followed by three Atonements and then Requiescat and our magic phase...

But you could also just as easily go FB>RB>GB into FB>RB>RA>At>FB>At>RB>At>RA>At>FB>At>RB>At>GB>Magic Phase...Yeah, its probably not gonna line up quite as clean as the other, but we're talking six 550 potencies instead of just three, and then into resetting our DoT to move into Magic Phase...

So, barring the Gamerescape stuff being wrong on its OGCD status (Which it very well might be, cause that above looks somewhat ridonkulous), could someone a little more versed on this explain why that's the setup instead of the other? Or tell me that someone else got their preview stuff wrong in regards to the OGCD status of Atonement? heh

Spells are instant-cast now during Requiescat so you'll be auto-attacking all the time while casting (and blocking attacks while casting, which we couldn't do before.)

True, the concept of not casting them will take some getting used to...

You do normally want to weave the oGCDs in between GCDs, but I suppose if the potency is high enough then popping 3 oGCDs in a row might not be a loss?

Edit: Atonement is on the GCD? 2.45 sec recast. It is in the "OGCD" box on GamerEscape but recast would indicate it's a GCD

I mean it would sync up to Goring Blade easier...but I suck at Math, so I'm kinda wondering if the loss of a few cleans ticks of Goring Blade would be worth the extra damage from an additional 3 Atonement...that is of course if it even IS an OGCD...

It looks like PLD is going to be doing the same exact thing as in SB... but will need more buttons to do it.
Instead of GB>RA>RA>repeat, it's GB>RA>Ax3>repeat, which takes 1 extra keybind
You still have your Req window, but you replace the last cast of HS with a stronger spell that takes an extra keybind

This is a real bummer to me, because I found PLD to be a real bore when mained, and these ShB changes don't actually do anything to change that. I guess I'll have to settle on DRK or GBR

However, we will have 6ish less button bloat overall. I'm pretty happy I'll be able to fit everything onto 3 hotbars again (had to stretch 3 hotbars using 6 hotbars.)

Removal of Savage Blade, Rage of Halone, Convalescence, Tempered Will, Bulwark, Shield Swipe, Awareness, Anticipation, Ultimatum, Shield Oath, Sword Oath, etc.

It's not a new trait, It's the same trait we have now (lvl 52) they just took the shield oath part out.

feel kind of unfair that WHM can still do their action when with their wing why PLD unable to do anything, both gave pt a same 10% damage reduce tho

Overall looks good, got some nice stuff to round out the rotation, something to do in AoE situations, pretty happy.

I probably wouldn't have deleted bulwark, it's decent mitigation on big pulls and nice PLD flavour.

I also don't get why Divine Veil still needs a heal to trigger either.

Cover also shouldn't use gauge, it's essentially made obsolete by intervention now, apart from maybe in some very edge cases.
