SE, Please, we need to talk about currency bloating our inventory.

I know this topic has been covered before but with the release of Shadowbringer on the horizon, I feel it needs to be brought up again.

I don't expect it to be resolved by the time ShB comes out, but hopefully it can be done mid expansion.

It's a very simple concept:

TL : DR THE AMOUNT OF CURRENCY BLOAT CURRENTLY IS RIDICULOUS

84+ CURRENCIES THAT TAKE UP INVENTORY SPACE HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN STORMBLOOD ALONE

A bit hyperbolic you say? Not when you think about it.

8 new currencies added for every single raid tier normal mode alone. Plus 4 or 5 for savage.

39 currencies from those two modes alone.

8 different trial tokens in SB alone, more for the previous versions.

3 currencies for completing the 24 mans (the coins)

PoTD and HoH added their poshterds and silver and gold sacks each.

3 different logs for Daily Hunts.

Eureka is the current WORST offender:

5 different types of crystal currency

2 different types of Light currency

4 boss drop currencies

BA fragments

4 normal lockboxes and 3 variations of those (Cold Warped, Heat Warped, Moisture Warped).

9 different types of logograms. . .

Materia should be considered a currency as well as much as we use them.

It's gotten to the point where I have a retainer for nothing but currencies only. That's ridiculous.

In Stormblood alone, there are 84 currencies. 84 inventory slots taken up for no reason when there's a currency tab. More if I missed some somewhere.

Something drastically needs to be done for the Quality of Life of this system.

but if you're seriously holding onto everything you listed, you have a hoarding problem. Some of that stuff is not worth holding onto past the latest version (hunt logs), easily re-obtained (normal mode tokens), or one-time-use items not meant to be "currency" (lockboxes).

I agree with trying to clean house every expansion, that's why I primarily focused solely on SB. If you go back two expansions it gets even worse.

if they moved it to the currency window tho then people would complain about the bloat in the currency window and how it would look ugly etc. most of those tokens/currency are optional too - if you don't do the content you don't need to be carting it around and once you outlevel certain content you'll never need to revisit that stuff.

I don't know why SE doesn't put currencies in the quest-inventory ... That space is huge and except for some relics from past quests empty.

Key Item inventory is only ever as large as it needs to be. Just because you see tons of space in super expanded view doesn't mean it literally has that many empty slots.
Feel like I may have even read somewhere that key items don't even count as "items" that take up "inventory" space, they're more just flags that the system knows you're in the middle of progressing a thing.

Square really needs to stop with reflexively creating new tokens with every new piece of content they create.

Rather than so tokens for ex trials, for example, they should base the ability to purchase of the item off of an achievement.

Ex- you clear 20 times, then buy any weapons you like with mendacity. 100 times, Mount.

... this is silly. No one cares how the currency tab looks. I guarantee most people don't even open the thing for longer than a split second.

Please explain to me how currency tab bloating is worse than actual currency bloating.

I am afraid you are wrong about that...
In Lord of the Rings Online you have the wallet which is basically the same as our currency tab, and nowadays there are LOTS of different tokens that can go into that wallet.
Some people do complain about how bloated it is, and ask for ways to delete tokens from the wallet - despite it not taking up any inventory space.

If there is something people can complain about, then some people will complain about it. Guaranteed.

I don't know if SE's sometimes seemingly frail servers would have an issue with suddenly having a crap ton more currencies to track on every character, but I would prefer it.

The beast tribe currency tab has a drop down to select by expansion. I think that would work well. Have a raid tab for example and then select per expansion. You don't need to see every single currency at once.

Lootboxes don't need to be currency imo, nor do logograms since you can sell those and when you turn them into actions you lose the inventory item. But raid currencies and ex tokens certainly could be.

If thats true, it makes me feel even worse about how they handle it, given that 90% of what it gets used for could just be a flag like every other quest, and 10% is things you click for no reason to activate quest things

I often wonder this as well for various things, and then I remember that they seem to have no issues adding more and more achievements. I'm not sure why tracking currencies would be any different.

Does anyone really need an achievement for winning Deltascape normal (or whatever) 10 times? No, but something out there is storing the number of times we've completed it to properly award those achievements. Suspiciously similar to a currency, I'd say.

You'd be surprised over what people will complain about.

this is something i can get behind; it's pretty tiring always shuffling around the stacks of bolts, and books, and coins, and idols and eventually getting fed up and tossing some then having a use for them pop up later.

Currency wallet would be one of my favorite qol improvements. I have an entire chocobo saddlebag worth of currency tokens atm. I would like to see them all migrate to non-inventory currency panes like they did with the beast tribe currency tokens.

I also dream of an improved glamour closet where any item you bind is automatically added permanently.

Oh, and a tackle box.

I don't care much for a currency inventory as requested by OP, but I do want a Dye storage box with functionality that allows it to link with the glamour dresser!

To me... if an item exists solely to barter for another item, it is a currency and should therefore go in the wallet. Raid tokens, EX primal tokens, beast tribe currencies, tomestones, etc. - they are all the same, you get them as currency to trade for usable items. It is baffling to me that the wallet was implemented and then basically left to rot - it should consistently be having new currencies added to it as they are added to the game just like new seasonal gear is added to the armoire (though, to be fair, it took them quite a long time to be able to add those on a timely basis as well). There is potential for so much more stuff to go in there than it currently holds, and despite the fact that some people might complain about bloat there, I'd think that the vast majority would much rather have bloat in a non-inventory "info" panel like this than bloat actually eating up inventory/saddlebag/retainer spaces that could very easily be used for something else.

Which is never a reason not to do something. One of those things reduces the number of items you can carry, one doesn't. The superior choice is obvious.

Might be sooner than you think. It could easily have been a memory issue, and with 32-bit going away, they can start adding that stuff in.

I seriously doubt there would be many voices saying this. People don't have the currency window constantly open and designing the ui properly would eliminate that issue. The inventory space issue is far worse as it directly affects your experience in the game.

say primal totems were moved to the currency window. do you really want to have x amount of bizmarck totems around forever? you wouldn't be able to discard them ever either.

Why would you care about discarding something that isn't taking up inventory space?

because that data would stay with you forever. the less your character has to lug around with them the better.

The only things that need adding to currencies are the 24 man and primal currencies. Everything else is just a "keep till you have enough then spend them".

I've made it clear in the past that I firmly believe the majority of players calling currency bloat are just hoarders who never throw anything away. It's on you to manage your inventory, not Square.

They should at least put the items from raids you're forced to receive in the currency window, ie the coins and primal totems, crystalloids from final versions of each raid.
Things you get from chests like shafts, cranks, pedals etc should remain in your inventory, as well as everything else.

They could simply allow us to dump them by talking to a NPC if it were a data issue. There are plenty of ways around this problem that doesn't involve throwing a thousand different currencies at us.

Not really, 24 man coins stay relevant the entire expansion as you need previous tiers for current trade ins. Likewise with primal totems, if you're casually grinding them out to get the mount you'll be holding on to them for at least 2 patches.

Materia is different because there is a market for that. The other currencies, you know the unsellables those should have their own currency tab.

Materia is no different then Crystals and clusters and so it should have its own tab as well... im at the point where im simply trashing every yellow and all low purple ones i get lol

Damn, 2,5 years later and worse than ever.

I think they just should consolidate old tokens (old = like 2 addons later) into one currency, let tokens from fights that are harder/longer give more of the currency. Then you have just 1 currency for each lvl60/70 trials extreme/raids -tier for example.
But then nobody would buy retainer.

Necro or not, it's still relevant, and worse than when the thread was made. They're budgeting armory chest slots but leaving us to juggle or just plain toss an absolutely wild amount of tokens in our inventories.

I think every non-tradeable item that is character-locked from trials, raids, Bozja/Eureka and relics should be consolidated into currency. At least from anything that isn't current content. The currency tab is sorely under-utilized for how many--literally--non-fungible tokens exist in the game.

Why? Just keep transmuting until you get green or blue ones. They at least sell half decently even when outdated.
