Developer's Blog: A Whole New World - Can & Cannots of World Visiting

So I was just reading through the recently updated dev blog found here https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/002726.html

So far they list the can/cannots of world visiting:

You can:

• Accept/Progress/Complete Quests
• Party with other players
• Queue for duties
• Purchase items from Marketboard
• Use FC/PVP chat channels
• Use cross world linkshells
• Visit friends
• View player housing
• Join player events

You'll also have a wanderer tag when visiting other worlds on your nametag. They didn't list any cannots. Guess that's coming when the play guide is updated as mentioned in the blog.

I'm super excited about the marketboard and being able to group with other players. It was a good move to leave out selling on the marketboard (I imagine because of RMT stuff). I can now see myself hopping worlds to find the lowest price (or available) item I'm looking for. The undercutting will be even fiercer now!

Also used to be on an FC in Ultros, and I can now go back and visit with friends on that server which is beyond incredible.

So what are your thoughts on the cans of world visiting?

From their original announcement, they said that linkshells won't work while you are on another world.

I was hoping this would just cut off your home world's linkshells while letting you join new local ones, but they haven't mentioned this being the case - a pity, as I was hoping I'd be able to bring my alt over to my main world and connect back into the linkshell that most of my FC use for communicating.

Still, looking forward to cross-world marketboard access - I've been needing a relic weapon base for my alt, but the local market has been sold out.

Also, the potential to send money between characters should be useful, though I hope it won't get auto-flagged as looking like RMT.

It's amazing to me on a social aspect, which I guess this was their aim after all lol. Also looks like you can just about do almost everything you could do back in your own world with some minor limitations so that's great as well. I'm surprised by the ability to purchase items off mb. Won't this mess up economy on a data center scale?

From what I remember, they were saying they wanted to make the marketboard entirely cross-server but there were technical issues with that, so letting players purchase from any world would achieve something of the same price-balancing effect.

Ah okay. If I may ask, and to anyone else for that matter, how do you think the economy will pan out? Some worlds have a buyer's economy and others the reverse? What does that mean for worlds that are basically used to a certain economic flow?

The main things that excite me about it is visiting the city states on other servers, viewing housing, and comparing MB prices. Also looking forward to joining in on the Ixion FATE. I also do have a few friends I might be able to visit as well. It'd be cool to set up some map runs or something with them!

Economy is already borked as is due to MB/Gathering/Crafting bots. I'm crossing my fingers this evens the scales a bit for the actual people who craft to have wider market to sell too. But we shall see I guess.

For the worlds that will be joining Balmung on the Crystal Data Center it will likely mean their prices tanking. Our prices are notoriously low compared to most other servers so I see a lot of people trying to pop onto Balmung during quiet times to raid our MB.

To be totally honest, the only thing about world travel that really piques my interest is the possibility of getting more S rank kills.

I'd still stick mostly to my server and only do scouting/spawning on others once the ones on my end are dead, though (Except maybe for scheduled hunts like the Garlok).

I feel as though the most likely outcome is that the bot farmers are going to end up dictating the prices across a data center as they only care about pushing sales quickly since they're not actually investing any time or effort into the process (Which is not a good thing for legitimate crafters who seek a reasonable return for the time they spend gathering/crafting).

Prices for crafted/gathered items are likely to tank heavily on servers where they aren't already low, which will be good for the consumers, but awful for any producers who aren't cheating.

Restrictions are listed in the patch notes.

Restrictions

Certain features are unavailable or restricted when visiting another World.
Disciples of the Land

Legendary and unspoiled gathering nodes are inaccessible.

Retainers

Retainers cannot be summoned, hired, or released from service.
Items cannot be put up for sale on the market board.
* Market board items can still be purchased.
The following quests can only be accepted from your Home World:
An Ill-conceived Venture (Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah)

Free Companies

Free companies cannot be formed or joined.
Free company information cannot be viewed.
* Login status of free company members will be displayed in the chat log as usual.
Company credits cannot be earned.

Linkshells

Linkshells cannot be used to send or receive messages.
Linkshell information cannot be viewed.
Linkshells cannot be created or joined.

Housing

Estates and apartments cannot be purchased.
Residence sharing is unavailable.
The following quests can only be accepted from your Home World:
Bird in Hand

Eternal Bonding

Ceremonies of Eternal Bonding are unavailable.
Eternal Bonding quests are unavailable.
Others' ceremonies cannot be attended.

Gold Saucer

Lord of Verminion tournaments cannot be entered.
Triple Triad tournaments cannot be entered.
Cactpot tickets cannot be purchased.

Deep Dungeons

Deep Dungeon results will not be saved to leaderboards.

Moogle Delivery Service

The Moogle Delivery Service is unavailable, but you will receive a notification when logging in to the World that you are visiting when a letter has arrived.
* Notifications for letters from GMs will be displayed instantaneously, not only when logging in.
* All notifications received when visiting another World will be indicated with the red letter icon.

Teleport

Eternity Rings may only be used when both players are on the same World.
You can only use an Aetheryte Pendulum to teleport to the nearest aetheryte if both players are on the same World.
You can only teleport to a friend's estate when you are on their Home World.
* This feature may still be used even when your friend is visiting another World.

New World and Preferred World Bonuses

Bonuses will not be applied for visiting New Worlds or Preferred Worlds.
* If you are eligible for New World or Preferred World bonuses in your Home World, these will still apply when visiting another World.

Not too keen on not being in party when swapping, will make it a major pain in the ass for me personally but i get it.

Damnit can't use retainers while visiting. Guess my visits will be short then.

Edit: Guess I could just go back to my home world quickly to re-assign ventures.

No, Balmung won't affect it for now because people can't visit a congested world. If Balmung is ever opened, then it will start affecting things.

It just occurred to me that those gil farming bots are going to be extra obnoxious because they're generally occupying 100+ player slots on every server, though I've seen upwards of 200 on Cactuar alone on an especially bad week.

Hopefully SE shifts to daily ban waves instead of weekly to mitigate that a little.

Can you talk in your home server's Novice Network when visiting another server?

Balmung is now changed to a standard world, looks like things will be effecting the MB quicker than you thought.

Even though they aren't marked as Congested to block new character creation and transfers, congestion can still prevent players from other worlds from visiting Balmung if the population online at that time is too high.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening.
