It'll be funny if people in populated servers happen to try to load to the same aetheryte at the same time trying to do world visit and the stress test fails there in their own world before they could even do world visit and go to the fate.
Awesome, I can't wait to crash the servers when I join another world's FATE!
I hope this also follows up with a stress test instance, so players can load the instance servers to their limits in order avoid another Raubahn EX.
Lets do this! Thank you for asking us SE. Hopefully there will be a lot of people :D
Grabs popcorn for watching the whole house of cards come crashing down
Now this is actually a good idea. I have no clue how many people they'll get for this, but testing the waters before you go all in is a great idea.
Hopefully there will be enough people subbed and logged in to do this. It is still a lull and expansion releases always bring an influx of temporary players. I'm concerned the stress test won't be stressed enough to give SE/XIV team enough data.
Time to animate people to participate ;)
Lol SE they do a late April fools after all.
The fate that they're using is Ixion which is funny for those who were around at Stormblood launched when they had instanced zones. Ixion would crash servers. XD
Note to SE: If the last weekend is any indication, there are issues going on with duties/instances when an unsynced full group can take 5 minutes to ready check and 5 minutes to pop a queue into Nidhogg extreme. Or when one of those members disappear from the party list but are in the instance so group heals don't work on them.
Yeah I highly encourage anyone that hunts to participate as well.
With the world visit system, the next thing(s) that will have the most likely chance to cap zone limits and possibly crash servers will be S Ranks (and even A Ranks initially). Even though you might have gotten accustomed to hunts melting right now... upon the initial release of Shadowbringers the new hunts are gonna be sponges for a bit, so ppl might actually have time to world hop and get to them.
I'm hoping that the results either encourage them to add more instances of zones after release OR increase the player limit per zone.
i dont think ill do it since they said for warriors of light .. i am not never will be a warrior of light.
i am A Magi of darkness
Well...
I'm expecting this to fail spectacularly.
Given that the FFXV event already overloaded their instance servers due to a questline with 2 solo duties in it... It was to the point where when I was trying to do some solo unsync'd content the day it came out, I had to wait upwards of a minute to "Reserve an instance"
Now what's going to happen when everyone's trying to cram into the same zone...
Well that's kind of the idea. They want to see how quickly ppl can crash zones though, particularly those coming from other worlds. Also probably track how many ppl show up. What they intend to do with that data afterwards, no clue...
Like I said, two possible outcomes would be they add more zone instances upon ShB launch (they've done 3 instances of each zone initially in HW and SB), but that is bandaid at best. If a Special FATE or S Rank spawn in that instance, that particular instance is still gonna fill and cap just as fast if the player cap stays at 300. There will be more overflow though for players that aren't necessarily trying to get to "the thing" and just trying to do MSQ.
The other possible outcome I speculated would be that they increase the player cap per zone instance, which would be better (IMO!!) since more players could get "to thing" each window. I just don't know how feasible that actually is though.
So they want the players to do free testing for them?
I'll pass.
How do you expect them to do a stress test then? Hiring tens of thousands of people just for that? Or do you want them to do a half-assed test so that you can complain later when the servers do not work? Every game company does it by asking their players' help, as it's the logical thing to do when you want to stress the servers on a live environment.
I hope I can get the rewards for this FATE, because it seems my fate is to never see Ixion :(. Always offline or away when the dang horse spawns lol.
I wont get too salty (:p) if I can't just because server crashes but I'm hoping the servers can take it, go servers go bear my weight please~

Tyvm Shougun ^^
On an outside note on a different subject out of topic for those who know who:
Am here to remind my support towards those who want Male Viera and Female Hrothgar and every time read the new posts re-requesting the introduction of the both gender counterparts can feel your anxiety escalating for not having yet a response and know that my opinion on this subject does not matter because am not one player that will play such race counterparts but still feel your disappointment and real will to play any of both, can only add for you to never lose hope and patiently wait for one SE answer.
It would have been so deliciously hilarious and self aware if the stress test was against Raubahn.
Spread the word. If the people complaining about the timeframe of the downtime today isn't enough evidence that nobody reads anything, what would be?
Basically, we want more people to know about this, the more the better. Have them actually do it.
If it means getting more server stability, ddos prevention tactics, world visit seams mended, whatever, I say let's go all in.
This is nothing new and almost all decent MMOs on the global market have been doing this for years... they invite players to an area or event so that they can test the integrity of the servers. That is why it is called a stress test
Here on FFXIV, we did a lot of this for the Dev Team during the Alpha tests and it was a LOT of fun... especially when Yoshi would appear with his charcater in Gridania and we'd flood the area.
ooh goody we get given permission to make stuff go:
https://media2.giphy.com/media/XKCdA...73445163e90fe2
There was a bit more too it than that. Not only was everyone flooding instances for the 2 solo instances for the event but every time Leap of Faith or Air Force One popped in the Gold Saucer people were flooding it as well. Which probably gave SE a ton of data on how the instance servers are holding up right now prior to the expac which is probably why they are only testing zone servers now.
How is that surprising? Never saw alpha/beta/stress test elsewhere?
Even 14 had tons of alpha/beta. And the good things we got out of it is that they listen to suggestion and opinion. Doesn't sound to bad for me.
As stated by others, even Yoshida himself was here listening.
Depending on my work schedule I'll do my best to break these servers!
They can count on me to help.
So you're telling me we have permission to potentially crash the servers by messing with new features?
Hell yes.

Now that' I've been thinking about the logistics of this... I've realized just how much is actually going to be effected.
Again, they're seemingly setting this up how it would go down in a cross-world hunt shell/discord group. They're calling the FATE data-center wide and everyone then has to get there.
That means in addition to the actual zone with the FATE/Hunt getting potentially flooded and crashing... all city-state Aetherytes that allow for transferring to other worlds (can't remember if it's just starting cities or if Ishgard and Kugane are included too) and especially the city-state zones on the world receiving the influx of players from the other worlds will be effected too. Weeeeeeee
I’m glad that they thought about this.
This is a great move and I hope they will use the results of this test to bolster the servers for Shadowbringers’ launch!
Love the idea, hope to catch some while playing.
Hard to get people to participate unless there's a juicy reward like a free Fantasia or limited time glamor. Like if they REALLY want to simulate stress (e.g. bottleneck with Raubahn at 4.0 release day), they need to give a reason for thousands of people to login and head to the FATE, otherwise people will just stay in town or do dungeons, etc and their data will be not be reflective of a true strain. Especially because MOST people have the Ixion mount by now.
