You're not a Nuhn just because you named yourself one. :v You don't have a harem. You're lucky if you can get a catgirl to follow your lead in a dungeon. How are you gonna lead a whole tribe of them?

Whenever I see someone named themselves "Nuhn" ingame I'm like, "sure Jan." :rolleyes: Where's that harem at? Do they know you're AFK in Limsa right now?

I find the whole Sun Seeker culture disgusting as a whole. They're more animalistic and primitive than any of the primary races imo.

I saw a nunh in the Praetorium once. He was one of those hesitant tanks, so I encouraged him with "Go, go, breeding kitty, tank them!" The chat got quite lively afterwards, bless that nunh!

They still can make some retainers or a FC of alt catgirls :-D

Yeah the whole Nunh and even Tia thing never really jived with me. Well at least not for an Adventurer. My male seeker has a hyur last name and removed the apostrophe from the first name. I just assume he moved out for what ever reason and adopted the name since he had no clan. Not that it matters anymore he is soon to become a she and a viera.:P

Maybe they just adapted their old culture to Eorzea society

Just cat-boys looking for attention. Its ok, most of them will become Men very soon due to expansion.

I once had an RP conversation where a female miqo'te was trying to explain to my character that women could be Nunhs and that it was more about leadership and that them being breeding males wasn't neccisarily part of being it. I just played dumb and went along with it but oocly I was like 'yeah okay sure.' Though given I play on balmung, if I see a female miqo'te model with the last name Nunh I can probably assume they probably have the...tools for the job anyway.

The weird thing with the Nunh "surname" is that it can come up in the random name generator (something like a 3% chance), which is a bit awkward when a new player isn't going to have any idea what that entails.


From, a more lore-based perspective, as well as the main naming conventions document, there's an older post with a few elaborations from Fernhalwes on other circumstances - most notably for this discussion, that a male can leave to form his own tribe, and if doing so will replace his existing tribe-letter with a new two-letter designation (since all the single letters are taken) and become Nunh of that tribe. They just don't tend to attract enough women to keep the new tribe going.

(Still, I could see it working with, say, an eloping couple declaring themselves a new tribe of two.) :D

By the lore rules, rather than "dropping the apostrophe" you'd probably drop the entire tribe letter, since that's not part of their individual name, but functionally more like a surname. (eg. Y'shtola is essentially "Shtola of the Y tribe") - although I guess it would make sense if he just wants to keep the sound of it.

Though on the other hand if he just wants to get away from their cultural naming scheme without dropping ties to the tribe, he could potentially shift the tribe-letter into being an actual surname - a bit short on its own of course, but could draw on the 'totem animals' listed against each tribe in the naming conventions.

Lalafells are diminutive. Catboys top out at 5' 8", which is either solidly average (global), a bit shorter than average (US), or slightly taller than average (Japan) depending on how you look at it.

Catboys are small, I'm sorry. Of Eorzea, Doma, and Ala Mhigo they are objectively on the small side. Barely average, at best.

Pretty much me as well. When I first started FFXIV I had no idea what the names meant, so I named and created my WoL after a character from a story I've been writing (No, "Lionheart" isn't from FF8 x.x. She gave herself that last name because it sounds cool.)

When I noticed people were giving themselves the same last name and the whole apostrophe thing, I looked it up. Yeah....Katt would NOT be in such a society. If I were to give her a "backstory" in FFXIV, she probably was born in a Hyur society.

And yeah, probably switching to Viera too. Totally different name, totally different story character. I'm pretty excited for it in fact.

I don't know what a Nuhn is, who's the real loser here.

I have a better question. Why would you want a harem? Have you not seen the anime's? It's like an inevitable trainwreck of suffering for the male MC. Its more fun to be the male MC's friend who is safely outside the danger zone and is free to stir up stuff to make it worse... >.>;

Letting the game pick my character's last name was a mistake. But honestly, the jokes I get about finding another Lyehga in a duty are worth not spending the $10 to pick something better.

I've thought about this, myself. One little detail I read in the Naming Conventions thread is that a Nunh isn't necessarily the greatest of his tribe; he's just the one who gets to mate. There's nothing preventing a Tia from being a great hero or even the actual tribe leader.

This doesn't entirely make sense to me, because plenty of females would still be attracted to a male with power, even if he's a Tia. But that's another subject.

Let's say your male Mi'qote actually did earn the title of Nunh. Good for him! However, he's now left the tribe for an indefinite amount of time to be an adventurer and, eventually, a great hero.

As soon as he's gone, guess what happens? He's not the Nunh anymore. Even if he doesn't formally surrender the title, someone else will soon step right up and say, "Hey, girls! Come on over here and give me some lovin', because I'm your Nunh now." What are you gonna do about it? You're not even there.

It's a highly coveted position. It's also an obligation, and one you can't fulfill if you're away for months at a time, saving the world and stuff.
