Limit Break too Limiting

Played some smash brothers on switch. Absolutely loving the ultimate moves and the feeling of pressing that button, you just get immediate satisfaction. Each character has their own special “LB”

What I’m suggesting is probably a pain in the ass to put into the game,

BUT not impossible. Suggesting making limit breaks individual skills, less power full. Just like normal FF games.

We should be able to upgrade or have different limit breaks as we level up and equip materia which also affects each individuals limit break.

“Also? Make both sides happy, have a vote or option before he dungeon or raid starts,

Group limit break or individual limit break”

^ I don’t like this idea, br it is a suggestion to please both sides.

As fun as this game is, the jobs are just so generic and unoriginal. We need a form or personalisation.

I think it is possible to implement in future. We have individual LBs in PvP for example. And I personally really would be glad to see something like this in general gameplay.

I think individual Limit Breaks could be interesting.

Since, they'd feel better to use, so it's not just 1 person gets to have fun using the cool flashy limit break. It'd fit better with capturing the feel of previous FF titles which had characters having individual LB's. It'd also stop lots of issues with various things incidentally becoming DPS boosts by their LB generation capacity (Things like fluff shielding from WAR/PLD AoE shields don't really help keep people alive, but they do provide a bunch of LB generation which means they're a DPS gain)

The main issue would be the amount of balancing they would require to make work. So that each class has an appropriate damage LB for how fast they generate LB gauge, which is then factored into their overall DPS. Potentially also making different jobs have different LB's as opposed to the current role based generics (Even if the level 3 variant has unique animations per job, their effects are all the same within a role)

Overall, I think it could be a beneficial move to make. Just a matter of, will it be worth the time of the developers to implement and balance?

In 1.0 there was a system similar to limit break called "Battle Regimen" where each individual party member could activate a special skill, and if everyone used it at the same time, it chained them together for bonus damage.

I think a system like this would be more interesting personally. Where each member gets their own LB and if used in unison with other party members you can create some special effects. For example, if both healers use theirs together it activates the LB3 function of raising all party members. If both tanks use theirs together, it makes all party members invincible for a short time. If all DPS use theirs together it does massive damage and maybe applies something like vulnerability up to the boss for a short time so everyone can do some bonus damage after LB goes off.

They could go really in-depth with something like this too, where depending on the types and number of LB used together you get some unique effects. For example there could be effects for tanks and healers LBing together, or Healer and DPS LBing together. Maybe some really OP effect if the whole party LBs at the same time.

Anyway, I do agree that the current LB system is rather bland and could use an update.

I wonder how long it will take for a person to come saying that then it's like another skill for a job taking the charm out of limit breaks. As if the current limit break wasn't just another skill, except with a party-wide cooldown, and one that people want only melee DPS to use most of the time.

Though yes, I personally was always in support of individual limit breaks. If for no other reason then because it'd let me use them solo, not requiring a sizable party. That and the fact that there would be no reason for people to say that they didn't know there is such a thing as limit break/not having it on their hotbars.

As for the possible class balancing factor, all that needs to be done is tie the generation to the entire party, but have it character-dependent on it being used. So everyone in a party would help with filling everyones limit break, which anyone could use then. I reckon healers would actually hold onto theirs for a while, for one.

And no, I don't think that individual limit breaks are a serious balance issue. Just slight increase in the bosses health is more than enough to balance it off. In case of healers, if the limit breaks would still fully revive the party, it's just a second chance to salvage a screw up. Seeing as the first one is often messed up (I can't count the amount of trigger-happy DPS wasting the limit break when party is dying or people resurrecting through skill when the party is completely dry on MP thus wasting the full restoration of the limit break on them that I met) as is, it wouldn't make too much of a difference. Just save a lot of bad blood and prevent utter waste of time because someone wanted to be a "cool kid"...or a troll.

The thing is, that is what Weapon Skills are meant to be (or at least, their original concept in FFXI - there you had to gradually build up TP to then let rip with a weapon skill when you built up enough, and it carried through into FFXIV 1.0... by ARR though, with TP being adjusted to being permenantly full and so not requiring to trade biffo with the enemy to build it up anymore, they became your standard attacks), so Limit Breaks are meant to be restricted for a reason - they're a party wide fancy attack to use as a last resort, not to make an individual character look cool.

So I do not see SE changing this.

I've always thought that FFXIV could make use of FFIX trance system.

I dont mind either "Group limit break or individual limit break" , but i agree that its feels bland and could use some updates.
If its become individual limit break though, i want the system to force "everyone" in the party to need to use it at some point in the fight.
Most of the DPS right now are refuse to LB because of FFlogs, reason is they lose slightly of damage...
(and ppl says fflogs/act dont affect the game... but strongly encourage player to not do their job properly for self benefits, including uptime and not avoiding mechanics)

The issue is that individual limit breaks without balancing to individual jobs would just mean the new meta is to run 4x melee DPS to get 4x their high damage ST LB's.

Even more so if LB generation wasn't tied to individuals, so you had things like the high damage SAM being able to pump out more DPS through their more damaging melee LB compared to say bringing a RDM who has less personal DPS as well as then being stuck with the less powerful magical LB. Since they'd both have equal opportunities to cast their LB's. Only now, the more damaging class also gets to use their more damaging LB to boot.

Sureeeeee, if you can do atleast 90%+ dont failed to every mechanics, but even they died they are not going to do LB anyway.
I dont see how weakness dps that refuse to LB do more damage than LB, Kappa.
Even you dont died, your own dps not going to be faster than 3 LB 3 times.

Tell me why Samurai which lost next to nothing not LB and have Ninja do it instead? in most of the run, only melee that LB is ever a Ninja while they have a lot of job to do already.
Its because of a thirst of FFlogs.

EDIT : Do you know how they clear Omega before Panto 2 without Echo? They chesse in LB with SCH shield(1st LB 3 is at 1st Flamethrower), so not using LB is faster? change my mind.

Your previous quote clearly referenced DPS not using LB. This does not mean not using LB at all. My point is that it is a party resource with multiple applications and having a DPS use it is not always correct.

Essentially I take issue with your "but strongly encourage players to not do their job properly for self benefits". If I can do more damage with my rotation than by using LB.... then I shouldn't use LB full stop.

Ninja does less personal damage than Samurai? Meaning that if Ninja uses LB it is a bigger DPS gain for the party than if you have Samurai do it?!? Also of course you have the weakness DPS use LB. Ideally they shouldn't have weakness in the first place though.

If I do slightly more damage by not using LB... then the boss dies slightly quicker. Which is slightly better? But clearly doing my job wrong if I do that.

TLDR version: IF you kill boss faster everyone's numbers look better. So, people are encouraged to clear in the most efficient manner possible.

Ninja does less personal damage than Samurai? Meaning that if Ninja uses LB it is a bigger DPS gain for the party than if you have Samurai do it?!? Also of course you have the weakness DPS use LB. Ideally they shouldn't have weakness in the first place though.

With a minimum ilv LB helps a lot in any fights, and when its up it need to be use, for easy example this tier in Midgardsormr you can LB before doing Hot tail + Orbs but most of melee refuse to use it because they want to do damage while their skillspeed is not optimize yet with their rotation on low ilv gears.
You can get 2nd LB3 in Midgardsormr fight back in a day but for their own selfish benefit they refuse to do it.

For your easy example im going to take your Red mage as and example, in Halicarnassus or Guardian on the add phase/bliblo, caster LB is better to use here because it cover the entire area while dmg add and the boss at the same time and you can pre-cast it, but as of you, you going to make Range do it even it requires a range to move to do LB and you caster can stand still, i have been there and saw this happened.
Its all because of own selfish benefit gains over FFlogs of course, you will skip 1 mechanic in Guardian with/without LB anyway so it make no differences who LB, what make it whole difference is Melee LB on Guardian so it guarantee skip last mechanic at minimum ilv and guess what, they never do it, "because my Logs"

And your Ninja example shows how selfish ppl are, they scream for trick attack/shadewalker/smoke screen, while put every burden on Ninja.
Do you know how much "Slightly" you mention? Samurai only lost 100~300 dmg from LB, how does that benefit party in anyway? 1 - 2 seconds faster in that fight? does that worth anything? that amount worth nothing.
its not even 1% while LB3 is 3% guarantee, so you want to make it slightly better? how about melee LB when its up and not delay it.

If I.... can do more.... damage.... by not using LB.... and the party... can do more... damage... by having someone else LB.... even maybe a Tank... to cheese a mechanic.... I am not... doing my job.... wrong.

If I do 100~300 more damage by not using LB... then using it is a DPS loss.... which means it is WORSE. -100 DPS is not a good thing. Why would you want someone to do less damage on purpose?!?

This is how tank selfish started, because none of them want to LB, easy example M/F or Red fists, because "my dps"
And you know what, without Echo you can still kill M/F before any mechanics on the last phase ever happens, if 1 of M/F already dead you can have melee LB2 the one that still alive so we can probably only get Meteor+Arrow or none at all, but no, "my dps" let tank do the whole mechanics + LB and have the fight longer for a few seconds, "Slightly longer".

No its not, it make no difference to the group, it doesnt make a fight faster, it doesnt benefits group if the fight is any how slightly longer than not LB, it make your fflogs looks good and thats it.

Answer : LB is 3% and your small dps is not even 1%, LB is faster here in anyway you arguing, not LB here make the fight longer, less effective for group wise.

Answer : it doesnt matter who did it, you wont make a fight any faster anyway, but you still have to do it in Halicarnassus/Guardian example, but Caster one is more easier to execute yet you have Range did it, its FFlogs selfishness in this case.

Fastest logs run in Omega without Echo is cheesing LB3 in 1st Flamethrower, and they kill it before Panto2 ever happens/cast, its even before they need to move the boss to the middle.
Sure you probably raiding, but probably normie tier or so, if you want to argue about speed run, the fastest run this and last tier is how many LB they can get in that fight, Demon Chadarnook and Omega is a good example, not like you know how fast or how many LB they use anyway.

Edit : i just checked my main none-echo logs, and my fastest run on Final Omega was 8:45, my group LB it because we dont want to do 2nd Archive All, you ever skip 2nd Archive All without melee LB the whole fight? i would be delight to see if you/your group did(with Echo its easy to do now so whatever i guess)

So to clarify. You were speed running with a group of toxic people who won't LB bc it's a DPS loss? Or are you suggesting that using LB can actually make a fight shorter and therefore increase everyone's DPS?

Basically the point I've been arguing from the beginning. That logs do not encourage people to not use LB. That it isn't as black and white of an issue as you are making out.
But clearly logs were incentivizing you to not use LB.

For me, i dont speed run outside of my group, since its not worth the time you going to spend on PF to get a good logs.

But FFlogs encourage people to NOT LB because they lost self DPS, is what i see from my experience.
LB at the right time will always make the fight faster, but the person that LB always lose slightly dps.
I cleared Final Omega for 24 times now since Echo(only count Echo logs), and my Warrior(which is not even my main class) get 92 percentile easily from PF but it could be 95 you know if someone would LB, we might even be able to skip 2nd Archive All, you know... (its not even Uptime strat or logs run / nor anyone cares about logs anymore after Echo)
In short it could be faster if someone (melee)LB, but no "my deeps"

Edit : if you ask why am i running it again for 24 times, i just getting a book for Gunbreaker/Dancer because i cant get a coffer(2 weapons and in case Dancer have an exclusive armor, which i doubt it)

I apologize if you thought I was insulting you when I asked if you even raided. I was legitimately considering that as a reason we couldn't understand each other. I have become more and more frustrated talking to you about this as I do not understand your point of view, and likely never will. The problem I have with the LB system is that most of them are useless now, here is how I see the current system:

Healer
LB1: Useless - never use
LB2: Useless - never use
LB3: Somewhat useful - only used for wipe recovery

Tanks
LB1: Useless - never use
LB2: Useless - never use
LB3: Only when mechanics require, otherwise useless

DPS
LB1: Only use if one LB bar present
LB2: Only use if two LB bar present or if fight ends early
LB3: Only use if three LB bar present or if fight ends early

Thus, the only LBs at this point that are of any consistent value are the DPS ones and the healer and tank LBs might as well be forgotten unless the very VERY situational event occurs that requires their 3 bar version.

.-. Honestly hate the supers in Smash. Some characters just have some god-awful supers, just like casters and ranged physical will objectively have god-awful limit breaks on a single target fight.

I think it would be nice to have individual LB's. Because it really feels like people just want to have their cool moment.

I've had moments where i am melee and i am about to LB 3 but then some caster decides to LB the boss instead.

I've always wanted Limit Breaks to be individual based, with a chaining system in place for the higher level effects. So rather than just hitting Lv3 and throwing it out, you'd have a system where your group chains basic LBs (which I'd also rework tbh), and then a select player (based on their position in the chain, I suppose) gets an "Overlimit" status effect, allowing them to throw out the current Lv3 LB.

Basic LBs I'd like to see given unique animations based on role, if not Job, with a few changes to effects as well... Rework Caster and Ranged LB specifically, make Caster an enfeeble based skill (even if this is just a vuln debuff for the sake of this games cowardly approach to CC skills) and Ranged into a party wide buff, given Ranged seem to halfheartedly fill the Support role in this game.

The chaining system itself could be achieved by putting a "Was just LB'd" status effect on players/monsters that were just hit, with a short duration of course. So attack LBs hit the monster with that effect, and to chain you'd need to hit the monster with the same effect again to go "Overlimit", alternatively your Healer can LB and give you a status effect, then when you LB within the timelimit, you go "Overlimit" to unlock LB3.

Would require some level of potency adjustments of course, and a relook at some of the boss encounters that specifically fill LB gauge, but I'd find that kind of system much more engaging than what we currently have. It lets everyone throw out a cool and useful move, it lets groups that work together throw out something more. Technically we'd be throwing out much more (if it's just a two player chain for LB3s, then you go from 1 per Full Party to 4), but they're cool skills... Let us use them more often... Especially the Healer/Tank ones that rarely see any use...

I think a system like this would be more interesting personally. Where each member gets their own LB and if used in unison with other party members you can create some special effects. For example, if both healers use theirs together it activates the LB3 function of raising all party members. If both tanks use theirs together, it makes all party members invincible for a short time. If all DPS use theirs together it does massive damage and maybe applies something like vulnerability up to the boss for a short time so everyone can do some bonus damage after LB goes off.

They could go really in-depth with something like this too, where depending on the types and number of LB used together you get some unique effects. For example there could be effects for tanks and healers LBing together, or Healer and DPS LBing together. Maybe some really OP effect if the whole party LBs at the same time.

Anyway, I do agree that the current LB system is rather bland and could use an update.

it seems they didnt believe this was worthwhile. The wanted a simpler lb system i guess. To be completely honest, i always felt some of the 1.0 battle iterations (yoshida tweaked it a bunch of times) were more interesting and engaging Than 2.0s systems.
