im more annoyed that it's called gunbreaker and not gunblader. i refuse to call it gunbreaker. and to assauge your concerns regarding tanking: it's so easy. warrior is basically a fat dps and drk can either be damage mitigator tank or off-tank fat but not quite as fat dps as warrior. gunblader will probably go fit in the same niche as warrior.
I'm sorry, but tanks and healers deserve cool new toys to play with as well. Maybe consider learning to tank, it's not as hard as some people make it out to be.
Not all expansions should be only DPS jobs.
There were only DPS in 4.0 and people were "Huh???" about this. With same case in 5.0 the reaction could be even worse (it is quite bad with no new healer already). And well, Yoshida-P explained well, why they decided to add new Tank.
Somehow, I personally waited for GUN for 5 years and always though about it as about tank so I'm on happy side of boat, though I do understand why some people were disappointed - not all players like to play tanks overall. It was quite the same with Dark Knight.
The "main character" jobs are almost always tank jobs. With Squall and Lightning(kind of) joining the ranks through Gunbreaker, the only real exceptions I can think of are Fionn, Terra, and Zidane.
And a lot of healers were excited to play Dancer until they found out it would be a DPS class.
Personally I'm just happy we have those jobs period. As a DPS main, I don't mind playing as tank or healer from time to time. It's worth giving all three roles a try.
Funny you say that, because GLD/PLD's fighting stance was based heavily off of Tidus'.
Don't gun breaker my heart
I couldn't if I tried
Honey if I get restless
S.E. you're not that kind
Felt like I needed to make a joke.
But seriously... I'm glad we're not solely getting DPS this time around. And you're kind of a bit late to the gunbreaker isn't a DPS topic.
As my group's 4 man tank, I'm pleased with something new. And assuming that DNC is a fun class I'll have something new for my 8-24 man stuff too. Though I sympathize with the healers that wanted something new, it sucks not having something new to work with for most of your game time.
Edit: And thinking of it... FFXIV doesn't have SPECs for their jobs. If you want a DPS spec for a Tank then well... there are few DPS jobs to choose from for the DPS 'Spec'. Specs can go and stay in WoW.
I guess I'll just have to tank.... T_T tanking is too much anxiety for me, though.
I'm excited about Gunbreaker actually. When I heard it was a tank, even more so. It looked like a really cool concept and while I main healer, I'm considering maining tank depending on how GB plays.
Actually there has been a "DPS" every patch. Ninja for 2.0, Machinist in 3.0, Red Mage & Samurai for 4.0 and Dancer will be 5.0 along with updates to limited job BLU. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about Gunbreaker being tank, I'm actually very excited for it and can't wait to play it; I prefer it as a tank. But just saying, there has been a DPS class every patch.
Sure. My point was that second expansion in a row without tank or healer could cause... very negative reaction from half of community that mains this roles. Now only healers are disappointed (and I hope we will see good rework for them in 5.0 and then new job in 6.0 because they need it).
Ya, I thought there would be a healer job this time but I do understand their point of view. Ranged Melee category has only 2 and has had the least updates. Plus when the current healer system is broken, adding a 4th will just make things more unbalanced. I can see why they want to fix the system first before adding a healing class. A lot of people complaining for a healing class but honestly, I'd rather the system become balanced and improved then simply having a new healer for the sake of having a new class with a broken system. As someone who is BRD main, I not sure how I even feel about Dancer; MCH felt too much like BRD with RNG based attacks, not sure how they will differentiate DNC from BRD/MCH.
I disagree, I think gunbreaker is a good balance for right now aesthetically for me, I personally like jobs that don't LEAN towards any sort of alignment spectrum for example. PLD is way too much of a holy knight archetype in it's animations and mannerisms, but out of the three tanks I like it's overall aesthetic the most. DRK is edgy which I like, but a lot of it's animations are very over exaggerated edge. and it's animations look too "floaty" for me, the two hander doesn't look like it has any weight to it you're just tossing around an exaggerated foam weapon. WAR is probably my favorite gameplay and lore wise but the weapon design just doesn't speak to me since I don't like overly exaggerated axes, I'm fine with the more tame axes but the newer ones just get too complicated. Likewise some of it's animations are just dull to look at.
Meanwhile GUN pretty much meshes everything I like about PLD with a hint of DRK's edginess and hopefully a similar playstyle to WAR. It's pretty much the perfect tank in my eyes, though I do understand the frustration since I was really hoping we'd get some sort of "nuetral" blade wielding job, I love SAM and NIN but sometimes you get tired of the obvious eastern aesthetic and flare and want something more nuetral.
I to wish Gunbreaker was a DPS. I can tank, but I hate it. I was all ready to switch to tank but... once they announced that DNC was going to be a DPS that was going to use CHAKRAMS I haven't been able to stomach tanking. >< Oh well. Maybe next FF MMO lol.
I would have also preferred them add another job as Tank this expansion and pushed Gunbreaker back to 6.0 to be a DPS. But like the old man says, You can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster.
I just hope it’s good. I got over my tank anxiety when DRK released and have been tanking ever since. I can see how some ppl are unsure about tanking especially since a lot of content has released since 2.55.
But this community is very supportive of new tanks.
The crazy thing is the ppl who want gunbreaker to be a dps sound like the same ppl who wanted DRK to be a dps and the ppl who wish WAR was a full fledged dps
Tanks are in big demand and having a new job might get more people to tank.
I am SO glad Gunbreaker is a tank. I feel it would probably fall completely flat for me as a DPS, just like Machinist and Samurai did.
Tanks are much more fun and have much more going on.
Sorry to derail but Tidus was not a tank, nor was he a Paladin. He was a Warrior/Time Mage. He had quick attacks, a few buffs and time spells. Auron was the Knight/Samurai tank job. He had Threaten/Provoke/Guard, Sentinel, as well as the usual Knight "Break" skills, and a few Samurai moves, and two-handed sword like FF5 Knights
This is why I think, it would have been even better, if they had made 2 Samurai Jobs back then.
Samurai with the heavy Armor as a Tank and Ronin with Medium Armor as a DPS Job.
And now Gunbreaker als a Tank and Gunblader (is that a word?) as a DPS Job.
This would bring the cool Toys to both Groups from my View.
And with 5.0 they could have brought us a Dps/Healer again, like the Summoner and Scholar.
Maybe a new way to work with the Bluemage...or ^maybe the Dancer.
Yes, I like the Idea of a single Job being able to go two ways. It feels like a Class is more something of a flexible Concept and not just a linear Path.
You should really try tanking. It's like DPS but easier and you stay in front of mobs. It's not bad once you overcome your fears. No queues, high demand, easy rotations, less repetitive, you're a special snowflakeyou can eat a lot more damage.. You will like it!!
This was something that always felt a bit bad for me when playing Tanks.
Especially, what Yoshis Team did to the Dark Knight.
Easier Rotations can be fine for the Tanks if the focus is somewhere else, but spamming a single DPS Combo felt like they made this Class for a Wii Remote.
Tanks Swaps were nice in HW. They appeared and sometimes not.
Now it is like "You love tanks swaps, right. So lets put a Tank swap into your Tank swap to make the tanks swaps swap the Tank swaps."
I on the contrary i'm super hyped that gunbreaker is a tank, i love tanking but the only class that really appealed to me was dark knight, sadly it's getting kinda boring so a new toy with a personal weapon of mine is refreshing
No, the Rdm would still be a Part of the Game. Just give the Game more Jobs two Roles.
I just have no clue, if people would have liked him as a Job with a DPS Role and a Healer Role or just being a DPS only Class, like we have him at the moment.
Maybe...perhaps...I was never so deep in his Lore, that I could say if this is a great or a bad thing.
Could be nice, could be bad...I have no clue. ^^
You see that I did not drop the Dancer for 5.0 and instead whished he would be a Class that can be a Helaer and a DPS. And the Gunblade Job can be a Tank and a DPS.
Eh, if they don't have the resources to do three jobs per expansion again I don't think they'd have the resources to do 2 1/2 either by doing more smn/sch splits, especially into two different roles and probably using different armor sets too etc. I think this would still be a huge undertaking.
That's true they added a lot of tank swaps lately with the cherry on top of Seiryu with double tank swaps XD the basic DPS rotations are quite easy but they give your space to react to surroundings, positioning well, cycling your defences etc and so you can optimise your fighting all around.
That said a person that has anxiety tanking is someone who would enjoy the easy rotation, for those more seasoned tanks they can work on optimisations like every other class after all.
Often I think, this creates the most anxiety amond Players picking up a Tank Class.
Yeah, but I also think, that this can create some weird feeling among DPS Players picking up a Tank.
When something feels to easy to feel right and they start to ask themself if they really do it right or not and they start to feel unpleasent like they do something wrong, without noticing it.
I’m a little curious, what is causing this tank anxiety? What exactly is there to be worried about?
LOL well they are probably not using defensive CD or checking enmity or something anyway XD
Jokes aside I don't think that's a real issue for many. From my experience, which might be not a good representation of he masses IDK, most players think it's hard to keep enmity and full of responsibilities.
The leadership component is the biggest hurdle for me, personally. The tank is expected to lead the group in DF content at least, and if you're unfamiliar with the content or are still getting used to the job, you've automatically failed as far as a lot of people are concerned.
Have you tried MCH?
I don't find this true at all, at least in my experience.
Sure if you know the content well you can lead the group, but tanks have to learn too, if you're unfamiliar with the content or don't feel confident in the mechanics just say so, someone always steps up in the teaching part. If nobody knows the mechanics then it also doesn't matter.
So eitherway there's no harm.
Gunblades are a full on DPS weapon. It is weird that Squall's weapon is attached to a tank class.
