I tried it with 361 and I could only kill 2 of the 3 things we have to do before auto failing the duty, so i guess i need more.
for those who beat it, what is your IL?
i dont think we should be doing raids or extra hard content only to beat the MSQ.

You shouldn't need too high of an item level if you conserve your cooldowns for when the swords spawn.
I was able to burn the swords down without them with an ilvl of 399 on NIN so I think lower ilvls can pull it off if they save their burst damage.
This still seems very much tuned for DPS rather then tanks or healers, though...
399 il wow that's a lot, i guess i should first get rid of all my 330 il items, which are 4 or so. i'm a ninja aswell, but we don't have that many cooldowns, and i did use them on the swords too. but i wasn't even close, i barely got to the third one and the timer went full. besids i have to evade the HUGE aoes that appear around the swords so that takes quite some time of from hitting them too.
You don't need to have that high an item level. I did it on drk at ilvl 382 with a 365 weapon. Just save your cooldowns for the swords. if you're still struggling you can get a few more genesis pieces they have raised the weekly cap to 900.
Failed it twice with a DRK at 381 because I just didn't have enough damage to kill the last sword, then got through without issue with a 360 RDM though that was with the buff you get starting on the third try. Felt like I could have done it without the buff though.
ooh i had no idea we got buffs for trying again, i thought that was only for group content. I'll keep on trying till i get it then XD
is the buff given once or many times if i keep losing?
i did it on my ilv375 sch. with 360 wep.
the timer was at 97-98% so it was just barely a clear.
as a dps, you should be able to do it at 360, even easier.
On Lodestone i can see you have 380 wep, so you should have no problems.
Maybe update your 330 accessories.
But i think you might need to research nin dps, a bit. check out youtube for guides.
I managed on my first time, as a ilvl 383 PLD.
I did use Fight or Flight and Requiescat to Holy Spirit spam on the swords, otherwise it was fairly uninteresting in terms of challenge, not much he could do against the survivability of a PLD.
ilvl 385 bard, 390 weapon. No issues to speak of.
DRK, 391 ilvl, 390 weapon.
I'm sure you can do it with 375 or more
Did it as 365 DRG, with a 380 crafted weapon for what it’s worth.
Died on my first try but on the second I only saved a jump so I could beat the first sword and jump ASAP to the second. At the third sword I was targeted by AoE and decided to eat them. Had I dodged them I would had failed, better to take some of those AoE to the face than to let that bar fill up.
Cleared in one shot on BLM with the timer around 65%, making no special effort to save burst capability for their spawn(did the fight blind, so didnt know if he would use that same trick from ala mhigo). Have an ilvl of 381 with a 390 weapon. But comparing across classes doesnt mean much. CaptainLagbeard points out that the boss couldnt do much while up against the survivability of a paladin. By the same token, him and his swords couldnt do much to withstand the firepower of a black mage.
Hmmh.... Lets get clear here, its been months since genesis tokens were introduced, to buy 390 items, which is already super strong for the requirements of the MSQ instances, you don't need to have a super high itemlevel, just awareness and basic understanding of your class should be enough. MSQ solo duties are the most casual type of content so you really don't "need" to run hard content to get them down. And considering how easy it is to get high ilevel gear (do some dungeons every now and then, and you get enough to clear anything the MSQ throws at you) it really really shouldnt be an issue.
On another note, I think the difficulty of the MSQ quests is on point right now, while they are extremely easy compared to other stuff the game has, they should by no means be free. Its supposed to be a game, and not a movie after all, so atleast put some basic effort into it. :)
I did it with relative ease with a 399 item level. The "add" phase was a pushover. Probably didn't need healed as much using Bloodbath and Merciful Eyes like I did either but I prefer to keep myself topped off if I can. It also takes some of the pressure off. Just need to stay aware of your surroundings at all times and it's easily doable with a much lower item level. At least half the fight is mechanics we've seen before from Zenos specifically.
I tried with Rdm ( ilvl 380), but my dps was slow to kill all spears.
I tried Nin ( ilvl363) but failed to killed on time ( those spears, again)
I tried SAM( ilvl 350), killed everything on time :)
I completed it as an ilvl 369 NIN. It came down to the skin of my teeth with the spears, but I did manage.
I did it as an ilvl 373 PLD. Failed the first try, but with the help of the Echo it went better the second try.
Considering that the last mandatory dungeon (The Ghimlyt Dark) in the MSQ has a required ilvl of 360, I think we can take that as the minimum for this duty as well.
The recommended ilvl for this and the start of Shadowbringers when it arrives is likely about 375+
Tore through it like paper as a ilvl 385 WAR. I could have stood in every AoE during that battle and barely had my HP move.
Hmm did it with ilvl 396 smn ... no problems.
And 360 gear is so easy to obtain. We got enough catch up mechanics for gear.
BLM 369 I was a bit too short. Around 375 is probably enough.
Did it at 362 on my Dragoon, You should be fine just save your big CD's for the phase transition.
i finally got it yesterday with 363 il. i finished the swords with 97% of the meter WHEW XD
thanks a lot for the replies guys! :D
I was able to do it on black mage just fine in 397...and that's with him being an arse and not letting me stand still for some good portions.
I did it with Sam, at 389. It really wasn't difficult.
I honestly don't think you have to be that high of an ilvl as long as you do mechanics properly.
Gear can only do so much. But if you fail at doing mechanics, not even your gear will save you.
Trust me i know, i died because i stood in the bad. But that was my own fault.
I think I'm 360something, rdm did it on the second try. First try I literally killed the last spear as it hit 100.
394 WHM first try. I cast aero and stones on first 2, then assize for 3rd and then went... oh.. no 4th. I think I was 3/4 bar on it. It really seems it is easier for ranged classes as you can attack outside the AOE's much easier.
Just treat the fight like Zenos in Ala Mhigo and it helps a lot.
I'd suggest at least upgrading your gear to i380/i390 before the expansion. Sure you'll get handed gear, but if you're struggling now with the gear you have, it needs to be done sooner than later.
I'm iL 399 as Sam, so I cleared it in half the bar. Gear cannot carry those who cannot play well.
Weird for me is that ppl (on their main Char) are sitting on ilvl 360 and below. Why ? Alphascape is 380 gear and you can craft 380 gear with the option to upgrade to 390. And NO i dont mean the new Players...
Not really surprising :
1. Clearing it only for story
2. Boring way to farm stuff
3. Not really motivating content to run several times with PU
Crafted gear is not that easy to craft and don't worth the price it is sold in HV considering the final use.
Yeah Tomes stuffs are not fantastic to farm either but considering the PU factor...
My tome job uses the 390 stuff (just got my last missing piece this week thanks to the raised cap. Now to upgrade everything to 400 and get those melds in...), everyone else uses the 375 stuff from GD with completely new 70s using the 360 gear as a stopgap measure for slots where I haven't had a 375 piece saved up from Greed rolls.
For the content I do (that is, nothing Savage) it's good enough.
SMN i393 or so, with i390 weapon. Didn't break a sweat.
Given that Ghimlyt Dark requires i360 and drops i375, i361 does seem a tad low. Also i390 gear is available through crafting so there's no need to do hard content to gear up.
Was this the final one where you fight Zenos? I just did it the other day at 364, but I couldn't kill the swords fast enough. Not wanting to repeat the Hien fight over and over again to retry Zenos, I just intentionally failed it (By not grouping with Lyse) until I got the Echo buff, then finished it easily. (Just AFK the first fight until it fails about 5 times :)
How do you define "current content"? As far as I am concerned, all the level 70 duties count as current content, and i380 gear is most certainly not needed for most of them.
I don't do any of the level 70 Savage/Extreme duties, and I don't plan on doing those until they are no longer current content.
As for what gear I use it is a mixture of tomestone gear, (bought) crafted gear, dungeon drops, a piece or two from Alphascape.
Because farming stuff isn't fun, of course.Quote:
Im curious : why not farm alpha ?
Hmmm i think the first SHB dungeons will be @375 ilvl. And for example running the Burn with low ilvl gear ... sorry but this sounds like hell especially for the healer and tank. I dont think gearing up to 380 is hard. But its just my opinion : whatever float your boat as long you are not a burden for the group.
lv70 content =/= current content. Content that came with/after latest raid tier and ilv increase is considered current content. Or content that's at least somewhat new or relevant to players like EX primals and Ultimates. Delta/Sigma for example are not current content.
As for topic: I did this on best in slot ilv396 DRK with half the bar remaining. I have alt with pretty crap gear so maybe I should do the instance on it and see how it compares.
