Here me out real fast before you actually Unsub.

Hey guys, just wanted to put this out here, before anyone unsubs over the lack of Male Viera/Female Hrothgar.

Simply put, you shouldn't unsub. Now, I can explain a few reasons why, but the big reason here is because of Hildibrand. In Heavensward, Hildibrand was not announced and wasn't planned. It was only because of players giving constructive (And honestly, some angry, I know its hard when something isn't given to you but please try to be constructive.) feedback and asking for it during the course of the release and first patch cycle did they decide to give us Hildibrand in Heavensward.

While it wasn't the greatest story, we don't have an overarching story theme for the Male Vieras to be given. The animations and 3d rigging might take a little bit, but we should continue to discuss our displeasure with how they handled Genderlocking.

For me, I'm saddened that a lot of people who wanted Male Viera don't get to play them, I'm going to play female only because all my characters are female. I know it stings now, but we should continue, as a community to state our displeasure without attacking or harassing anyone who provides us with information.

I'm not the best when it comes to writing, but I just felt like this should be said. We're upset and angry, but that is because we're passionate about this game. We should use this passion for something less toxic, and to build to what we want.

These people aren't really going to unsub and SE knows it.

They'll be here day 1 once the expansion drops. Just ignore the knee jerk reactions.

People threatening to leave and insulting Yoshi P and the dev team and whoever else need to also realize behaving like toxic YouTube commenters or demanding the expansion be delayed a yeah or whatever else. won't get them what they want.

People threatening to leave just want to be told they're right. They'll be back on expansion drop, just watch!

let them unsub, in 4 weeks they are back, like always.

Those are also the types of people the community MAY be better off without. If they want to leave and never return in protest, let them.

why do you even care if they unsub? they're all literally who's.

When you kneejerk threaten to quit over not getting a *cosmetic* option, you come off as impossible to please. Look at the difference between posts/threads about the healer announcement, and compare them to the male viera supporter threads. There's an immense difference. Healer players are generally expressing disappointment and unhappiness, and not mincing their words, but for the most part the healer community isn't running around screaming to get what they want (a cosmetic option). And yet they (we) have far more right to do so.

And yet people are raging about not getting their cosmetic option. Why would anyone feel like you can be pleased if that's how you behave? Calm down, chill out, articulate your arguments. You don't need to hold back, but you're just making yourselves look worse and making me personally more and more glad you didn't get what you wanted.

Now I'll be over here, feeling sad and expressing my disapproval over the healer announcement.

Threatening the devs and claiming to unsub over something like this is one of the most childish things I've ever seen this community do.

I, for one, would be happy if the constant complainers unsub.

Somehow I expect they will always be with us.

I'm going to unsub but for totally different reasons anyway ("cough" eureka in 5.0 "cough"). I didn't care about the viera or the bara beasts to begin with.

BUT I do want to say this is ridiculous, unsubbing because one specific gender of a race wasn't confirmed and while I can understand people wanting it, I can't really put myself into thinking this is a good reason. It's stretching it to put it simple term, especially when I'd be more concerned about the expansion itself (5.0 will be just like 3.0 and 4.0, probably less dungeon because of eureka 2.0/Diadem 4.0 and its return in all its total crappiness...yeah I would be more concerned about those but that's another topic)

So..."shrug" if people are so easily prone to unsub because a specific GENDER of a race was not announced, maybe they should indeed unsub: this reason is just too...stupid.

There are better and more important reasons to be upset: this is simply not one of those reasons.

tbh i see more post complaining about people unsubbing vs people threaten. I have seen a few but way more of the former.

This game has had a stale content cycle since 2.0. We've gotten less content as time went on (3 dungeons per cycle) so they can work on content that fell flat on it's face (Eureka). The events have been awful for the past year or so. If this is what makes them unsub from a game, then they probably didn't enjoy the game for what it was to begin with.

Basically this ^ the content of this game and how its released is not going to change but it took races to do it huh.


Also.. Using unsubbing as a weapon isn't going to work for a few reasons. We are currently in Expansion Territory now, and expansion do one thing.. Bring in new players. So for every person unsubbing there's going to be a new player to replace you. The # of people leaving the game would have to be so Substantial to the point that new blood can't replace the loses for any of this to matter. Also x2.. as long as WoW keeps screwing up for some players and XIV is taking them on, that's not going to help either.


Either way, everything is now set in stone and everyone keeps forgetting it takes them 1 full year to develop one new race and 1 new job (probably part of the reason BLU is an unfinished job but who knows). So healer mains are now going to have to wait 4 years total for something new & nothing is going to happen until 6.0. Believe me.. At this point I want to be surprised and I WANT to be wrong but I just gotta be real with myself on this.

Let people vote with their wallets that's ok, just wish they would keep the good riddance posts to a few threads :P Personally was just waiting for the male viera to at least be beast like and we got that even better :P Main has been the same since 1.0 so its tough to change but Yoshi P kept saying he wanted a beast like race since even before 2.0 and I been waiting! =D tough call but ronso might be first time i race change my main =D Ronso DNC ftw! =D

And also, I'm pretty sure some of the people who unsub already bought the expansion ahead of time.. So knowing that SE already has your money, the very least you can do is sub to the game for 1 month to get your money's worth from the initial MSQ etc - to where 3.1 is going to begin and then disappear to 6.0 if you want

Nice post, OP. However, I'm pretty confident that the majority of the "female-only Viera = unsbub" people aren't actually going to unsub, and are simply threatening to do so as a tactic to convince SE to change their minds. Also, why aren't there similar levels of outrage manifest on the part of those of us who prefer to/only play as female characters that we are locked out of the Hrothgar? Ultimately, it's not a very important question, but I do find it somewhat interesting.

I doubt anyone is really unsubbing. It's a (fake outrage) harassment campaign being run by a certain external forum in hopes of controlling square enix.

If this is how they're going to act over such a non-issue, do we even want them to stay subbed?

I've played WoW so i've seen people threatening to unsub for less. kinda not new to witness for me. They won't be gone long either.

In most cases, even if they are unsubbing now, they will come back for the expansion. And the few that don't won't be enough to significantly affect SE or the population.

Plus, we really don't need players that are so fickle that a cosmetic option not being available makes them rage quit.

More like a white knight circle jerk. That apparently know what everyone that pays their sub with their OWN money is going to do. And say people that are unsubbing are somehow threatening and black mailing the devs. And try to dismiss any criticism of the precious game as trolling and flaming.

Maybe unsubbing is effective

But for me, I think talking about male viera, making threads and posts, fanart, and etc... is also effective.
Requesting male viera in fanfests and in q&a's might make SE reconsider the genderlock

I think liking this post http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...w-your-support if you want viera is effective, too. Not only that, sharing it on social media and spreading the link to your friends and community helps.

There's a lot you can do aside from unsubbing to let SE know you want to unlock the genders.

I may not like the decisions that have been made, but I like this game and don't want to unsub. Getting people to rally for a cause is harder than unsubbing. Convincing people who aren't registered to the official forums to get on for once and "like" the support thread post isn't easy. Unsubbing would be a lot easier, but I wonder if that's really the only way for us to get the changes we want to see? I don't think so.

So for anyone who wants to see male viera, please do your part. Share the post, and get players who don't visit the forums often to register and like.

I am not unsubbing but I will voice my opinion in a way that is constructive if I can and I agree with you that we all can and should do so without being toxic. I think they will add the genders later so I will continue to support the forum posts that encourage them to do so.

I would also say that if they added male Vieras, they pretty much would have to rewrite the already existing lore that they are pretty reclusive and stay away from people.
And I personally hate when people want to rewrite lore just because people want it.
Sorry to say, but I have nothing against this, and people cannot demand they get everything they wanting.

I say let the developers have at least some creative decision making. As I do think if they only make what we want, and they cannot be creative, that they will quit being part of XIVs devteam and find another project.

If people really do quit playing XIV due to a race, gender, job etc, I personally think the game will be better off in the long run.
The amount of pure complaints on this forum lately reminds me of the WOW forums.

People really should stop being so entitled and demanding as they are lately :/
