A possible solution to the housing system that wouldn't be too hard to do, maybe...

I've mentioned this before but I think FF14 should consider a different approach with the housing system since wards / demolition timers aren't really practical or fair to the player base, especially new players who will have to wait until about June to try and get a house.

Idea:
They could have each house as an instance where the exterior becomes whoever you went there last and the sign post at the front lets you change the house to whoever else lives there.

It could default to your friend or FC mate's house if someone you know lives there, otherwise it could be whoever got voted highest or something for that week.

Voting system? Why yes! People could rate houses if you wanted your house to be ranked. Just get a guestbook and enable it in the settings.

People don't go around visiting houses as much as they could at least in the US servers (Not sure about Japan) but having it instance based this way would eliminate the need to have demolition and everyone could get a house if they wanted.

FC could have a house, mansion and perhaps in the future some sort of private instanced island? These are just ideas but I think that the ward/demolition system is pretty bad and people have complained about it since it its inception. There are many ways to go about this and making it instance based wouldn't, in theory be too difficult to implement (but this is a huge assumption on the leeway they have), the wards are already there overlapping each other.

I know, some of you just want dungeons and raids, but what about the rest of us who spend a huge chunk of play time crafting furniture and re-designing our house a lot? With WoW refugees coming in left and right, and world visit system coming, FF14 is about to embark in some serious membership momentum and wards will not hold especially when the next IRL disaster happens and the timer stops again.

Dear SE,

Please create a solution that doesn't punish people with houses currently. I love the wards system, I worked hard for my existing home and don't want to lose it to instanced housing.

Make ishgard instanced to stop everyone else from complaining and leave the existing housing wards alone please.

I don't want 100% instanced housing. Your current ward system is really unique and lovely. Do a hybrid before destroying the current system if you're considering something.

Honestly, they just need to add separate instanced housing in addition to Wards.

Wards are great and some people really make the most out of them.

Creating separate instanced housing, means that players whom don't care about wards, can always get a house. In addition, players that are waiting for a Ward plot to become available, can still have a house while waiting.

Instead of demolishing old houses, simply transfer them into instanced housing.

This, I'd completely support this. I do not want them to touch the current ward system and force us out.

I like the ward system but it does not work.
I actually think they should just go instanced or make the houses useful.
Wards are getting to be too many and they are dead.
If they stick with wards they need to make a reason for people to go to there homes by making them actually useful for something.
Something needs to be done.

Since interiors are instances, they could add areas that are full instances.

I understand people who want to keep wards but considering how areas are dead empty, SE really should consider to add instances that are not wards.

How to access these plots? Islands (sea or floating), NPC or central aetheryte, there are many possibilities.

It even would make possible to upgrade from a little house to bigger one, depending of the in-game incomes or crafts.

I agree this current implementation is horrible. Whatever gets rid of the ridiculous demolition and gives access to a house to everyone is good. Wish I could upvote OP a thousand times.

I really dislike instanced housing and would prefer they keep the wards. Ideally they'd allow for the creation of infinite wards and simply rearrange the houses based on activity every three months or so to concentrate active houses in the lower number wards and push inactive houses to the higher number wards. This should allow 1) for wards to remain mostly intact as they are now 2) let everyone have a house and 3) avoid the problem of having active players sprinkled throughout otherwise desolate and barren wards devoid of life.

Maybe they could add in "cul de sacs" to existing wards - where it's an area that leads to your private property via a zone line. You are then in a small, restricted area of the ward where you can purchase a small, medium, or large home, and then choose the style and etc. That way the instanced housing also has access to outdoor usage, like gardening, as well as indoor. Market Board and Aetheryte are placed outside the instance near the zone line. The player would have to zone out of their instanced home area to get to the main ward to use the MB/Bell, but that's a small concession I think.

This could actually be implemented pretty nicely into the game. Maybe the small islands in the Sea of Clouds into a housing location. One standard sized island that anyone can buy, no neighbors, just a house. This could be a nice way of doing the apartment or FC room style system as the exteriors won't need to be rendered into everyone's neighborhood so they can add far more housing than adding more wards currently can.

Maybe have some drawbacks to this to make the other wards still have value, like no market board on your private floating island?

I think the problem is they just don't have the memory techniques available to them to do so (meet enough houses for the demand, in any type of system), not that they're in love with people not having a house.. Their old structure, without massive changes, unable to afford the space needed for all their players. Like how they mentioned issue with having every mogshop item being account bound might stress their system.

I personally believe instanced housing like Wild Star would be best housing system as then you could be significantly empowered in your designs (and everyone could take part in the system), but am not a huge fan of pulling the rug from underneath people who like content (even if I think it's inferior).. so you'd have to design two systems (instanced zone vs neighborhood ward). Although I imagine over time most would go to the instanced one just because it's more powerful. Also to add the ward system isn't that unique of a concept, LotR online has it too but theirs grows auto-magically when one becomes full (they there will always have enough houses) - so technically you don't need two systems (of course).

As I said though I don't think any solution that entails a true house like we have now, instanced or not, would work until they fix that data issue which they've gone on long enough without doing so either it's really deep coded issue or they find it's not worth the time (so I don't think they'll fix it).

I did create a suggestion I do believe gets around their data issues though and allows everyone a /home/ (not a house) in the idea of Airships. Here you could upgrade and decorate in themes and sections but because they're in core pieces rather than little units the amount of data space is a lot less. Something like 500 items placed in x y z placed in a zone of other 500 x y z pieces (current housing) vs a ship segregated on a very tightly controlled system and the pieces while have some customization do not create the issue of 500 items (core type y, color 5, theme 6, rooms 1 = z, etc etc, this could describe an entire palace of a ship before reaching half of 500). People who just want a home that grows with them satisfied (that has all the features a house could have, given upgrades), people who want a physical house can keep it, and both systems can work together. That was a vague summary though, wrote a lot more on it here.

The airship idea is fun and brilliant, I'd love to have an airship :) I think that if they would permit people to relocate without essentially re-purchasing an entire plot, it would make a huge difference especially if it's only permissible to wards that have a lot of open plots. The problem with the ward system is that almost nobody cares to visit different wards to see what houses people have, it's typically only just friends or FC mates. Another problem with wards is that you can't have your entire FC move to said ward, I mean you can but it would be difficult to accomplish. I assume there will be two more housing locations in stormbringers; Ishgard and Ivalice or somewhere around there. With the the demolition timer re-enabled, it will be very empty until we get hundreds of thousands more WoW refugees, but even then I don't think their servers can support that many people in a single world so it might be empty regardless.

Also I think some people here are misunderstanding what I'm suggesting. You won't lose your house, and you won't get relocated anywhere with my idea. You would simply merge everyone on plot 21 or whatever and there would be a list of say 40 people sharing that plot. When you approach the sign in front of the house, you can change the instance and the house will fade into another house.

But, as Shougun said, they might not be able to do that due to software limitations in their engine. Something absolutely must be done and more wards will not help. I don't really care for the merged plot idea, because then you just have an absolute mass of people hanging outside the few premium plots in the ward. I get wanting to keep the wards, it just doesn't work well on so many levels. As for storage, getting an apartment just for permanent storage space will help (unless you couldn't help but decorate that too! ;D ) and a private room in your fc as long as it's not a private fc and you can absolutely trust them not to kick you or be inactive enough to lose the house.

One of the few core (there were about three or four) ideas of the airship, besides obviously getting around memory issues which we both agree are unfortunate but may be a serious hamper on any "housing" content, was that "I wish we could have more backgrounds". In that I mean imagine you like a zone and just want to log out there or whatever, just park your airship in the area and get on deck... "oh look I have an Ishgard view", "oh I'm floating above Azim Stepe", etc, etc. Some areas would require more thoughtful placement of where the ships hang out but nothing I think that is beyond SE.

The other main part was actually as you point out with FC issues. If a FC gets stuck in an area they don't love with a house size they don't love or worse.. no house, now they can put all their effort into the airship instead. Put it where they want, have the theme of what they want.

I don't think you were suggesting me in the misunderstanding but I definitely got you, the idea was to stack players on a plot meaning fuller wards in appearance because technically the system would make sure every neighborhood was full. The issue being if you wanted it to be consistent but of course they might be able to add the voting systems like suggested. So the best houses are the ones shown to you outside of your own of course.

You bring up another good point I didn't think of though, which I might add when I edit the airship thread sometime in the future.. If they cannot figure out how to make sure every single player gets a house then they must keep the auto demolish system on.. and this means you can't take a break without massive loss. Now SE might think of that as ingenious but that, imo, sounds a bit corrupted if purposefully a system was like "you can leave, but you will lose hundreds of hours of work HAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA" lol. An airship system might be the peace of mind and gil sink people want if they're not sure they'll play consistently then. Also if people who just wanted a home go for that then we might find less people using the housing systems just because they don't need it, which means a higher chance auto-demolish doesn't need to be turned on (if lots are empty by default, at least on some servers).

Or lock you into the FC by not letting you demolish your property lol. I really wish the FC rooms get a re-look.. The idea that one of your homes is bound to a FC membership is perturbing to me, and that it can be used as a way to prevent leaving is even worse XD. Maybe if they can get over their memory issue for apartments (such that there is one for every player), they could use FC upgrade as free teleport between FC and your apartment and a one time upgrade to your apartment scale (balcony, etc, etc - one time as in if you leave the FC it isn't taken away, but of course the teleporting aspect would be).

You wouldn't lose it. You'd still walk up to your plot, see your house, and enter it as usual. Plus, if someone has an ugly house next door, you could just click the placard for that plot and pick another house to appear there.

They would essentially have to rewrite the housing (but that's not entirely a bad idea.)

I prefer Black Desert Online's method.

The houses are part of the world not instanced however when you enter you are then seamlessly (almost) transitioned - no loading screens! - into your private instance. You can have five houses in the world per account.

There's no limitation as everyone could have a certain house and that's not an issue as it's instanced. You can also visit other people's houses.

I'd love instanced housing. I loved it in EQII. I have multiple houses there - a lodge in the snowy north, a quiet place in the trees, some rooms among the lizards, even a castle I got as a veteran reward. There were still wards so there was more than one entry point to avoid congestion. You could control access to your house and you could have pets wandering around. My froglok ranger's house is like a zoo.

While i agree everyone should have a chance for a home, my only concern with a change is that i'd lose my current home with no compensation.

Honestly I'd be happy if they just let us have apartments that use the interior space for medium and small homes; and or access to a new 'garden' interior space and a workshop. Personally I think that's a fair way to test interest in viability for an instanced housing area. Of course upgrading to a larger apartment size should come with a SIGNIFICANT gil sink - as should unlocking extra features like a small gardening terrace or small workshop. However I don't think you'd find too many people that upset with having to save a million or two more gil for the extra space and amenities.

Did visit the interior of all homes with public access from all residential areas in this server and created characters to visit in other servers.

To visit house interior decoration from random players is my favorite hobby in game pecifically large/medium house.

So if you ever see me there do not feel offended am contemplating your solutions and enjoying your virtual home decor, once went into a Large house decor which was a labyrinth got lost inside the house to no way out there was only one NPC at the door very doctor like style it was the creepiest and funny experience ever had.

Yes! visit your random player virtual home often. Yes! Am a fan of your virtual home decor!

Did one server in one week and would do it again with no problem is what give me mojo.

What give me motive is the fact that do not know you or will ever know you but still you give public access so random players like me can see your virtual home decor.

^ I just remembered something important. Sometimes you just don't want everyone to visit your house. Perhaps just your friends or all of your FC mates but not random people and especially not people whom you have blacklisted. This is something that hasn't been implemented yet and I feel like it's overdue. They may not put too much more effort in the housing system but I would at least love to throw in simple changes that would make the world the difference in owning a house.

So something like:

Just expand the server more or make there be an optional charge monthly for a premium house in a ward ran by the money from the users.

I REALLY think they should be doing something about this. On my server, Mateus, I have a queue time to even LOG IN in the daytime if that gives you an idea of how saturated it is. Being an RP server, a lot of people want houses.

There's even an FC that owns an entire ward of houses because they got them before they changed the way housing works, which... is entirely unfair to the TONS of people who would probably like to have a house to begin with. If the housing was just instanced in a different way, this wouldn't have to be an issue.

I'm tired of having to camp for 8-12 hours for a housing plot to open up, only for someone to snatch it up right in front of me. I pay for this game monthly. This is a feature I of the game I was looking forward to, and put the work into unlocking.

But because the management of this feature is so BAD, I can't even use a feature of this game that I PAY FOR MONTHLY. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating to have all nighters clicking a placard over and over and over, only to have it all be in vain.

FIX. THIS. PLEASE.

I am a returning player who has played on and off since the original launch, I've worked and saved hard to be able to get a house, main reason is I want to dye my chocoba, but it would also be nice to have a place that's my own personal place in the game.

Right now they is 1 plot on Cerberus available, I camped it with a few folk last night for 2 hours and got up this morning at 5am but its still on the timer.

I did not know how this worked till last night, but from the perspective from a returning player this so broken its untrue from a quick google hearing of people camping these up to 15 hours plus and then loosing in a click lottery is pretty disgusting, having to camp signs in the hope of securing a house is not playing a game but pure torture and taking you away from what you should be doing which is having fun.

If you have funds then you should be able to purchase a house its that simple, they should be a 1000 wards if needed, or instanced at half the price.

I have really re-fallen for the game and I have been putting some serious time into it, but not being able to get a house and experience that side of the game when I pay a sub like everyone else puts a big dampener on it.

Wait that FC /still/ has their houses? I'm surprised no one has been able to bribe them to relinquish some of the ward...

Their prices are gonna be sky high now that they cannot get them back or do that again.. also i remember something about that bunch specifically wanting a ward all to themselves.

Its easy you have restrict the access to the other players if your house is FC will only allow your FC buddies to go visit, no big deal at all.
Or you can plan a schedule and open the house for your friends and FC buddies go in and restrict the access right after, the restrict option you can use it freely and whenever you decide you don't have a cool down for it.
Fortunately I will only visit virtual houses where the players give public access, not yours and don't even have character in your server or will have for that matter.

In Ragnarok so you have more or less an idea they are requesting around 75.000.000 gil in game for dead FC with Small Plot, around 175.000.000 gil for dead FC with Medium Plot and around 300.000.000 gil for dead FC with Large plot but believe these prices are practiced around the other EU data center because have seen adds for Moogle and Cerberus servers some requesting exactly the same prices.

In Ragnarok we also experienced queue during day time in the following days of 15th April also during the free transfers time there were a lot of small plots available but there were also recently joined players who got the chance to buy their small plots, unfortunately a few players suffered with that placard spam seen people camp those houses for like 12+ hours in a busy state.
Right now am starting to believe that you and the others who suggest instanced houses might be correct as long as doesn't affect those who already have their plot or their FC plot.
Curiously have seen that happen before there is one FC that owns 32 plots of different sizes divided by two wards.

In Ragnarok happens the same one FC owns 32 houses divided by two districts in Mist and some of the houses are empty not even decorated.

Wouldn't mind at all as long as it's a feasible price but again would not be easy to estimate such price due to EU data center servers because those have players from different countries and Europe might be the most heterogeneous continent regarding their different political/economic systems and social inequalities even within neighbor countries, it's like you dealing with completely different social realities

So I camped 2 hours late into last night, got up early and camped it another 3 hours till I had to take my wife to work.

Came back and its gone with a house planted there "Utter bollo***!!!!!!!"

Please fix this extremely bad game experience! terrible! so pissed off! so angry!

why not just modify the current apartment system to allow the same large, medium and small housing sizes plus some kind of balcony/roof instance for garden furnishings

I don't want instanced housing, but i guess it would be too much to ask for them to add more wards when all wards get full.

I just want to get a house, and it sucks that even though i have the money i just can't get one because there is literally nothing available.

I am hoping i can maybe snag one after the server split, but who knows. People will probably be faster than me and i will be screwed.

Sigh... I just wish the housing system was better, so many players shouldn't be homeless like this.

After all the time I kinda doubt that they would touch on the existing system. My hopes are still with the new ishgard housing and that maybe these are instanced houses..

In the end a choice would be nice. Have wards in each region (maybe for FC only) and instanced housing with all sizes in each region and let the people choose. I would instantly put all my houses behind instances because I dont care one bit about wards and I never see many people around it anyway. And all those that want the wards then have to just accept the timer. Win win for everyone, and more houses for each person too because you can have one instanced house per region..which would also increase the amount of sold house items and all these event house items would finally make sense..

It would be nice if they would just set up a better housing system then the current compost pile it is. I have soooooooooooooooooo many housing items just sitting on retainers since the housing demolition has been locked for SOOOOOOOOOOO long.

We already have instanced housing, it's called apartments. We aren't going to get a large instanced house for every character that never gets demolished because there isn't enough space for that amount of data. The best we can hope for is a greenhouse or a glazed balcony for apartments so everyone can use their outdoor furniture and breed plants.

It would be nice at least if they would allow us to choose how big the inside of the apartment is. Someone mentioned this earlier in the post. If I could buy an apartment, but have it be a medium sized interior (for a steeper price of course), I would say screw waiting for a house as I currently am.

Aparments where we should have gotten much more and where they hinted that we will get different sized ones in the future. And still nothing like that happened. I really hope that Ishgard housing is apartments but with bigger rooms or the possibilty of buying more. Heck I would already just love it, if I could buy more than one FC room..

Yes maybe the instanced home as you describe could be one of the possible solutions, because currently SE provides 4320 plots per server without mention the aps if Ishgard house area actually happen and in the same system there will be 5400 plots even with aps might not be enough for the most crowded servers.

Based on a non-official census page were they base their research results on Lodestone they estimate just Ragnarok to have 11 478 active characters and it's not the most populated server it loses to Zodiark for a few margin, from those 11 478 only 7867 are until the present day 70 lvl because after transfers happened and the server was reopened there were a flood of recently players.

5400 plots (if ishgard happen in the same system) plus aps won't be enough to accommodate 11 478 active characters.
