Ever had to just give up on a static?

I just recently gave up on my static that was trying to prog O12S. They had been stuck on M/F Savage for over a month. 3 of us (including me) have been to Final Omega a few times and we knew what we were doing.

But the overall the group as a whole couldn't get it done. Either the healers didn't know how to shield/heal for Fire III or the tanks was mess up the last phase, or we just didn't even manage to get LB3 up at times which I found absurd.

When I would try to bring up issues during non-raiding times, the group never had much to say in the Discord channel almost like they were offended I'd try to have a discussion about problems. And I always got the sense that people just never tried to do more research as to how to do some mechanics better. So week after week we were just wasting our time and I got sick of it.

Anyway, anyone else been through this? It sucks giving up a group, but man it was going freaking nowhere.

I haven't done it for this game, and the previous one made it that way. Yet in WoW I did have a team that raided some difficult things. But well after a couple months of no progress on the first boss of the hardest difficulty of the expansion's last tier I and several others simply threw up our hands in frustration and left. That of course moved me from raider... to casual person and its been that way since 2014...

But ya, I've felt your frustration and pain once before.

i had to give up on a static back for neo exdeath. pugged my clear for that one and that was a pain in the butt. they just couldn't get it together when it came to surviving thru to grand cross omega and then they would screw it up completely and never bothered to research it better. plus the bard in our party refused to keep up on msq and never unlocked the 24 man so he could get upgrade items easier.

When you don't even want to keep up on MSQ that's bad in my book lol

I'm having similar, significant issues with my static. Took five week to get our first clear of O10S. Certain members weren't present for the clear, so they got pissy, and their irl ties to members that did clear cause them to become depressed. So we weren't able to even try to form up to clear this weekend. I've been trying to PUG it, but there's alway just enough baddies.

Had a static like that in Midas. We took two swings at Hummelfaust and after failing the DPS check twice, the popular consensus was we needed Sephirot weapons. Spent raid nights for the next two weeks wiping on him. By the time I had left only myself and the leader had cleared, and only because we had done it on our own time.

this is a major red flag and should be the main thing you prioritize moving forward into forming a new static. A static should be formed of like-minded folks who ALL want to learn together and progress together, it simply will not work if 3/8 people want to just bash their head with little to no communication. I'm sorry for your struggles but these folks are wasting your time and their own. I hope you have better luck finding a new static with a shared interest.

Yea i had this problem in the past at the beginning of SB the static i was in still had people in 290 gear for o1s i wasn't happy my mood got worse as it took 4 weeks to beat o1s and i had switched my main from brd to nin to provide more rdps i now love nin despite clunkyness and play it way better, and then during o2s had 3 people leave, i just gave up by the Monday following week got o2s kill which pissed off the other 4 members because got kill without them despite not affecting group loot. so i left spent next week learning and killing o3s and started work on getting Neo Exdeath kill when met current static who are much closer to skill level but more importantly want to improve themselves.

I think that's the "static killer", when people have different expectations of the progress. Some want efficient and quick progress, some are slower and don't mind skipping a few weeks. In the end, each position if ok, the problem is trying to force one in another.

I was in a static with that configuration. Some were hard players from 2.0, some were recent players. Some wanted to go fast, some did not mind. In the end, each raid night was getting heavier and heavier on the vocal chat becaue of that. So I just left because that's the number one thing that makes me run : bad atmosphere. Especially when you work all day and you play FFXIV to relax a bit but end up getting in different kinds of clashes...

It's difficult to find 8 persons that have the same playstyle and state of mind I think.

That's why we really need "4 players savage raiding" in this game or at least really hard dungeons replayable.

Easier to create static, easier to quit, easier to pug with raid finder, easier to make it in a FC ( lots of FC have 3, 4 players who plays every day), less people up chance to less drama ( not always true), more "user-friendly" etc

OP have a number of options:
1) help his group to improve to get it done (instead of tell everyone else they are just bad players and get away, you can tell them the missed points you noticed [but I see he tried...])
2) kick the baddies out the group and search new "pro" players at your same level (and good luck on find someone before next century, because the "good players" hardly are waiting for your static)
3) kiss the group goodbye and search for people at your same level searching for your role to fill (and maybe you get kicked later because your level were the one that "isn't enough")

But I know the feeling... my first static done O9S in a couple weeks... and then disbanded because some members were too much elite and wanted it down in a week and don't want "carry" the others not so elite as them to the next stage.

I gave up on a static while working on O7S, not because of the static (we hit enrage several times, almost had it, but had to take a break due to some members' work schedule and other issues), but because when I gave up on Eureka, my interest for my character was basically gone, and with the static on hiatus, I decided to just delete my old character and start a new one. This current character hasn't done any current Extreme or Savage fight (well, tried Seiryu with FC) and may never do so (had kirin and firebird and almost had enough for kyubi on my old character too T.T).

Yep I sure did, not only I gave up on a few statics back in ARR but the experience was so stressful, so filled with drama and cringe, so hard to contain that it made me quit raiding in FFXIV forever, because I swore to never have to feel the same thing ever again.

I remember how my static couldn't clear T13 and my leader was so mad at us because we kept messing up something - he was once so upset we couldn't clear t10 and I still shiver when I remember how my leader PULLED one of our healers from the raid, got off team speak - probably to chat in private - and then saw the healer leave without saying a thing. I bet he was so upset he left. He also kicked his own best friend from the static because he wasn't playing well, he was that bad.

I also have minor experience - none of them good of course - but after ARR I just swore to never raid ever again. It's not worth my mental health.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this static mentality of the game: I grew up with raiding guilds/Legions/youname it, where there's a dedicated group and officers and everything, it felt more united and you could still seek help when needed.
In statics It's just a bunch of players aiming to do a raid and for what I noticed it's "first come first served". I wasn't first so I was stuck in t9 for months until I got carried.

I'm just glad there's Cross world party finder...at least the cringe ends the moment I leave!

I've been in a couple of statics that were stuck on a single raid encounter for weeks.

In one group, a healer was the static leader's wife/girlfriend, and they were... less than stellar. But nothing was done about it, because of what she was to the leader.

Another group, same deal, and also no desire to make difficult decisions. Leader didn't want to give anyone the boot, because he just wanted to "raid with friends", which is fine, but there was also no attempt to urge people to improve their performance.


I recently joined another static, but the jury is still out on that one. I have, however, strived to be more assertive and make it clear that I won't stay in the static if we don't address problems, help under performers improve, or kick them if they refuse to carry their weight.

If you truly care about progress, you need to join a static whose only purpose is to progress. Anything less, and you wind up in these kinds of situations. Sadly, this is easier said than done, because in my experience, most statics that say they care about progress, really don't—they wind up caring far more about keeping people happy, even when these people are hindering progress immensely.

I've seen players give up on their statics multiple times. Some of what I write might seem a little harsh and presumptuous.

Some players are opportunistic. They will take advantage of their hours outside an agreed raid time with one group in order to raid with another group behind their back. Sometimes they will even say they can't attend raid due to some false reason when the reality is they want to raid with the group that is progressing faster. They are the most likely to raid log and least likely to communicate outside or even inside the raid. You will notice, if you are the group that they will soon ditch, a lack of effort all around. Refusal to use food buff, poor or nonexistant use of job utility (addle, feint, verraise etc) and generally tanking the floor at a questionable frequency.
To them a static is just their tool to clear content so they can likely farm it in PF or simply afk in the hub with the latest weapon/mount.
I would say this type of raider is more common than you might think. Some even put on a convincing facade during early weeks with a new static.

The other static issue involves conflicts of interest that aren't realised initially. Friends will start a static together, however each have different values on the time and effort they wish to dedicate towards raiding. This group will dissolve quickly after the atmosphere turns less friendly, voice chat will get heated and often players will mute themselves and only communicate in text. These conflict of interests actually reappear at times even in an established static. People change over time and though they may turn up for raid habitually it has ended up becoming more of a casual social experience for them. It becomes less about progression and clearing and more about having a fun time. Once the balance between efficiency and fun is tipped too far there will be conflict in the group, even if between just two members out of the eight.

There are many more reasons and justifications as to why a player might give up on their static. Statics as a concept may be a little flawed, it is difficult to find 7 other players that have the same interests and you will personally get along with. Being in a static is commitment, to honour that commitment you will likely have to make sacrifices, you need to consider more than just yourself before making decisions. Even losing a single member mid-progression can be very damning to the 7 remaining. However if the rest of the group is inconsiderate to you then it's definitely time to look for something better.

Guys there's something else I wanted to mention about this static I just left that I didn't put in the OP.

One of the major things that annoyed me with this group was I have a i400 job that was missing like 6 or 7 materia slots not being filled. They once made it a major issue that I was completely filled... Mind you that only reason I didn't bother yet was because I was already maxed on CRIT (main stat attribute for my job) and wasn't entirely sure what to put in the remaining slots. I really did think it could be a major factor as to use progressing M and F Savage.

Well sure enough I filled the slots and.....you guessed it... STILL no clear in this static weeks and weeks later even though I can get to Final Omega just fine in PF. When the PF is better than you, it's bad man.

I couldn't deal with these clowns any longer. A few materia wasn't the make or break deal probably in any fight in this game, know the mechanics and your job is.

optimization, materia, and the like only matter if you're dying to enrage constantly, not if you're failing mechanics. their priorities were way out of sync with what the group needed to succeed. for example, our leader left the decision to use Pot's during prog up to YOU until we hit enrage. Once we hit enrage, Pots were enforced. the idea was to get everyone to focus on mechanics first then go for bigger numbers later, unless you wanted to do both at once (which most of them did anyway).

I know the feels OP. I’ve been in a static since A9-12 were out. I haven’t been happy with our progress for quite some time now, and I have been debating on leaving for months now. Lately we have had a lot of bad luck in regards to holding members. Either people get kicked for not doing as well as we would like (mainly with healers because I’m picky with cohealers), or the people trying us out leave because certain people in our group decide to have a bad day and we wipe a lot. They want to do ultimate, but I’m not really sure if they are capable due to not everyone is actively trying to get better and optimize, even when we know the fight. I’ve only stayed because I’ve grown attached to them, since they were my very first static and who got me into the raiding scene. I keep holding out hope that things will improve once ShB raids become a thing.

In HW my static cleared a4s the final week before 4.2 dropped. When we got to a6s, I saw how often the group was wiping on easy+early mechanics and just decided that I wasn't going to attempt to stick it through the rest of the tier, and that it'd be better to leave earlier vs later. It wasn't a group that was the best at handling mechanics, and I knew that midas was just going to trounce us.

When during O11S prog and pushing to clear and I had to miss a couple nights due to work and was essentially left to the wolves that is PUGs that say Panto 2-clear but really means Level Checker prog at best and small fists at worst totally defeating the point of being in a static.

But it disband shorty after due to some people having real life issues, so still left to the wolves, but at least I don't actually have to have ties to people in PUG groups.
