Best Decisions and Biggest Mistakes SE has Made in regard to FFXIV?

Choose one best decision and one biggest mistake!

Best decision: Scrap 1.0 and rebuild the game (easy one I know, but I don't play much so I can't think of anything else). 1.0 was pretty dang bad haha.

Biggest mistake: Choosing the Trinity only over Trinity+Hybrid roles.

Doing this pinned them into a corner on how to properly implement their most popular hybrid roles. They now have to force jobs into a role, like they did with RDM, or do these limited jobs which I think the majority of us despise because we can't main the jobs we love. (I prefer just choosing a trinity role over the whole limited thing, but the ideal thing would be to add hybrid roles to the job system, but I think they'd never do that kind of big change this late in XIV)

If mine, then...
Best decision: giving up on 1.0
Worst decision: using 1.0 as a baseline instead of starting fresh (they didn't have to rush in my opinion, but there may be business needs I'm not considering)

Best decision: Fat Chocobo
Worst decision: New TOS and Lalas

if from my point of view:

Best Decision: cross platform support me and a few of my friends would never had played ffxiv if they hadn't have done this

Worst Decision: Alexander Gordias this raid was a complete mess the story was uninteresting, the normal loot system was absurdly rng with no way to mitigate (this loot system was originally just 2 random items would drop out of 3 possible items and you could have duplicates in the loot table so plenty of 2 cranks when you wanted spring or shaft etc it did eventually get changed due to player demand thankfully) Savage destroyed raiding scene and was gear gated so no matter what you couldn't finish it no matter your skill level until at least 4 weeks had passed

Biggest mistake : Eureka

Best decision: not making alphascape ff7 themed.
Worst mistake: limited jobs

Biggest Mistake: Not replacing 1.0's spaghetti code when they had the opportunity. At least for core systems. This one fact has been holding them back ever since while they try and re-write the code and implement it later or try and do what they can to put up with it at the cost of not being able to do certain things. (For example, their inability to easily add more character customization)

Best Decision: I dunno... Most of the good points I can think of amount "Didn't mess X up", with many of those things being messed up by decisions later >.>

I guess I'll go with deciding to scrap 1.0 as the best decision. Even if I believe their biggest mistake was that they didn't scrap it enough.

Best decision: 2.0 and explaining the 1.0 shut down with lore.
Worst mistake: Double Increasing Subscription price on steam without warning for my and some countries.

Worst :

-Removing the animation transitions, making the character stiff.
-Lalafell's walking animation.
-Butts removal
-Egi
-Hair transparency, not attached to the skull properly
-Awful texturing..
-Lazy Au'ra design/catfished.
-Limited BLU
-Not enough DRG jump(I wanna spam jump)

Best :
-Optimizing the game from 1.0
-Glamours
-Vieras.
-Story/Lore
-Interesting characters.
-Character customization
-CrossOvers
-Beautiful world.

Best decision: PotD (emphatically not HoH)
Biggest mistake: BLU

Best Decision: Every job on one character

Worst Decision: Cutting content for Eureka and Eureka ending up being poorly developed.

Best decision: ARR's replacement of 1.0 and fixing the many issues and mistakes 1.0 had (especially being able to solo-level). Replacing 1.0 with ARR was a very brave risk on Yoshi's part, but history has proved it to be the right one.
Worst decision: tinkering and experimenting with changes to the Armoury System too much, to the point it is now a convoluted mess (we now have the base 1.0 classes upgrading to a Job as well as one class upgrading to two Jobs, we have one class upgrading to a Job that cannot be selected at game start, we have the expansion 'classless' Jobs that start at a much higher level than level 1, and there is now the so-called 'limited Jobs' too that start back at level 1 but can't go beyond 50. Consistency needs to be brought back to the Armoury System, with a return to the 'base class upgrades to a Job at level 1', and 'change class by equipping the relevant weapon or tool, and stop listening to the players who want a FFT or FFXI style Job system (which is what is driving all this messy experimentation). As all this tinkering with it is making the whole thing so confusing it's almost impossible now to describe the Armoury System to a new player due to all the 'experiments' added to it.

Best: Cross world party finder
Worst: Splitting EU into 2 datacenters (we alrdy have just like 40-50 PFs open...)

At the risk of sounding like a white knight on this, all of the cutscenes in 1.0 used mocap, which was beautiful, but is really not feasible for anything they've done since. Can you imagine the kind of budget and time it would take to organize actors for something like the 15+ minutes of cutscene at the end of 2.55? Not to mention the cinematic team needing to go over it to make sure everything actually works and looks good. I wish they'd at least try to emulate that quality for critical story points, but I can't exactly fault them for not doing so either.

Best: Lalafells (:p), 2.0
Worst: Eureka

Best: Access to all jobs on one character.
Eureka: Yes, I really like that place and find it fun.

Worst: Putting anthropomorphic animal races in the game that look WAY too human. If you are going to do that, please make them look more like upright cats, dragons, and rabbits; NOT like a human with pasted on animal parts that makes them look like they are cosplaying.

Scions: Put those people to rest already. Many don't like them and they did their job for 3 storylines, time to move on in the world and meet others. There is no reason for protectors of Eorzea to start messing with Ilsabard.

Best: The job system by far is my favorite thing about this game. Even if I dislike half the classes, I still very much enjoy the hassle-free way this game allows me to experience them all at my leisure without making alts to do so. It's refreshing.
Worst: The housing system. Wards are mostly dead unless you happen to get REALLY lucky and their instance solution isn't much better than owning a guild room. While I don't want the old wards to go away, I do wish they'd actually try something new going forward for any added housing areas. Because this is getting ridiculous.

Best: All Jobs on 1 Character
Worst: Annoying Storage/Retainer system

Best decision: specifically housing system and the whole game is all good.

Biggest mistake: on housing system not allow all objects to move on Z Cartesian coord and wall paper and flooring not dye-able.

Expand: FFXIV has lots of great furniture spread all over the world well could particularly screen it and post it but not sure if it will make any difference, every time enter a new area, new NPC home 1st thing to notice is the interior decor and have seen alot of new things not implemented to PC use in house, please make it PC accessible. <3

Worst: Getting rid of classes. Getting Machinist without Musketeer felt bad.
Best: The Baldesion Arsenal. Feels like a real raid.

Best Decision: Allowing cross play, adding plenty of things to do.
Worst Decision : Limited jobs, retainer system is awful

As of this moment...

Best decision: Making it so every job can be played on a single character. This is what literally makes this MMO stand out from the crowd.

Worst decision: The formulaic and sometimes stale content cycle. This past expansion has probably been the least exciting for me because of this. I'm hoping ShB shakes things up.

Best: Nuking 1.0 with BAHAMUT

Worst:

JP Fanfest happening before 4.56 drops, meaning they cant say anything about the story and EVEN MADE A JOKE ABOUT THAT AT EU FANFEST.

Nah, that's what the live letter on Saturday is for, talking about patch 4.56+. The keynote on Friday will be about 5.0, and then there will be more news in the future as the job changes won't be told until later.

Best: Not giving up on FFXIV.

To lightly expand, coming out to the fans, giving free play time, giving a reward to those sticking around, at least what appears to me listening to the fans (I know they can be stubborn sometimes but imo it appears they listen and it's sometimes a good thing that they have their own vision that we can't affect). Not saying it's easy or always perfect but I feel if they improve on the qualities and philosophies that made FFXIV not die that they're doing the right thing.

Worst: Whatever is at the crux of the memory issue with housing, glamour, and account bound issues - that's the worst lol.

To expand - you've got account bound city purchases on most western cash shops, WoW (and a few others that come to mind) have nearly every item in the game glamour logs (thousands of slots saved), and FFXIV housing cannot meet the amount of players (AND FC) that could qualify for a house. In particular I feel sad about the housing issue because I feel visually what they have done on the inside is really nice, and if they were able to give players more power outside and inside (and all players) that we'd see a lot more features and neat items introduced to the system (because there'd be more demand with a lower barrier to entry and no concern about losing it).

Best: Ultimate
Worst: Mog Station

Best: recreating the entire game for 2.0
Worst: Adding the ability to purchase extra retainers but not ever giving us more inventory space for free.

Best decision: Remake 1.0
Worst decision: making content easier and easier so that people can afford to watch netflix or something else while doing a dungeon

Best: Putting in the effort to make each and every raid encounter a beautiful, memorable, thematic experience that can be enjoyed for more than just expectations of loot.

Worst: Allowing the aforementioned beautiful content to die, despite the amount of effort they put into it.

Would that I could go back and actually enjoy a fight like NidhoggEX in it's prime with more than a tourists party.

Letting old content die makes some degree of sense in a lot (or even most) MMOs. It's usually not an experience of cinematic quality, so even though it may be fun, there is one less reason to maintain it. But FFXIV is different. It's major content is made to be memorable and often meaningful. And the consequences of that are what simultaneously make it the best and worst game around.
