Beware of Double XP Twitch phising scam

Update: May 09, 2019 - The scammers are now attempting to mimic popular ffxiv content creators as well. I've added an additional image example below.

In case anyone is out of the loop, there's been a rash of fake ffxiv accounts attempting to impersonate the official ffxiv twitch account. The account is attempting to lure users to a phishing site that mimics the ffxiv login page so they can steal account information.

The above is an example of what it looks like on the channels screen. They pop up under different usernames using the official channel's logo, a ton of fake users watching and the channel is always set to subscribers only chat. DO NOT follow any of the links.

Remember there is only one official ffxiv twitch account (has the verified checkmark by it): https://www.twitch.tv/finalfantasyxiv

Please keep your friends/family/fc members aware. The scammers continue doing it because it's working. Let's do our best to make sure they're wasting their time.

If you did happen to hand over your login information, be sure to immediately change your password. Should you have been locked out, contact support asap.

Anyway, I'm not sure if SE can take care of it. Impersonating SE staff/GM in-game is a bannable offense, but in this case it's done on an external website.

If you don't know how EXP works and are coming from the usual formula of MMO, it can easily work since double EXP in Chinese/Korean mmos is a big thing.

Thankyou for the heads up, it makes me think that perhaps the forums should have a special tab labled "Suspicous things to look out for" (or something along those lines) where people can list examples of scams and such, so stuff like this doesn't go missing from the front page of forums, so everyone can see it.

Wait, there's still people playing this game that can still earn EXP? :confused:

It wouldn't surprise me. I've gotten redeemable Wargaming Codes from external websites and that seemingly has no logical purpose or marketing gimmick. The codes worked and I got my free stuff. -shrug-

Well i feel for anyone affected. I think the ugly yellow comic sans font should be a massive red flag.

I would think so, but some people may be lured in by the prospect anyway and if you don't notice the website url, it does look like one of their login pages.

Sadly this kind of stuff doesn’t surprise me anymore just looking at the stuff people share in Facebook as well as working in IT Support

I am surprised this is getting people. Just take all facts from the Lodestone, then you dont have to worry about people scamming.

Judging from a couple reddit threads, people are still falling for this unfortunately. Please make sure to inform your friends and fc members not to fall for the scam and to change their password immediately if they even think they may have submitted their login information to a 3rd party.

Updated the first post. It appears the scammers are now imitating popular ffxiv content creators. Twitch seems to be fairly quick at taking these down now, but keep everyone aware!

yep happens all the time in osrs its stupid scam but its like a multi-headed hydra u cut one head off two more grow back twitch has their hands full.

Youd be surprised. Ive worked for “the” company that makes phones and probably your watch, for a decade and ppl get phishing emails asking for peoples Social security #s, and something like 80% of the geniuses enter it in then call us asking why the password reset page says error on it.......

People paid money to watch a CGI version of the Lion King that was almost entirely a word for word and scene for scene copy of the Original. annnd you're asking how gullible people can be?

This is why the Crown Prince of Nigeria still requests assistance on a daily basis. There will ALWAYS be someone who'll fall for it.

For scams, I mean. The Crown Prince is totally legit. He's a pretty awesome guy once you get to know him
