I need to change my glamour plate.. whenever

Ok this drives me insane.
Que for a dungeon all of a sudden I’m in coerthas and I’m still wearing my costa de sol look.

If I don’t have the right outfit gurl I’m stressed,

Lemme change my gd glamour plate

You'll simply have to get dressed before you leave the house like all good boys and girls do. :p

This is why you plan ahead and bring your Costa Del Sol outfit pre-glamoured onto a second set of gear, so you just get changed when your queue comes up.

I mean the way this post is framed aside.... I don't like that I can't change between my black mage and red mage looks when I'm not in a city-state/Idyllshire/Rhalgar's Reach. All it's doing is mass applying glamors, so I don't understand why applying the plate is restricted to only certain locations if glamors can be applied anywhere.

They did a poll on what we'd like to see with glamour plates and the top winners were more places we could use them and number of plates with more storage being 3rd. We could see expansions on the system during Shadowbringers lifetime.

SE made a statement at one point in the past about why you can only change plates in city states/the reach. It has something to do with getting killed in a PvE area and that messing with the glamour code. Because you cant "die" in a city state and they are considered safe zones, it just made more sense to limit it to there. Id be interested to see if a BLU can self destruct and then apply a glamour while dead inside a main city.

If it's a comfort thing (like, brr, my character looks cold), at least you can rest easy knowing that glamour is just an illusion. You might LOOK like you're ready for the beach, but you're actually wearing a nice, warm gambeson under a layer of full plate! Not only do you stay cozy, but when those nasty monsters try to take a big bite out of your soft, exposed midriff, they'll actually be nomming solid armor. If you're lucky, their tongues will get frozen to you and you can finish them off that much more easily! It also provides a mental image not easily dislodged!

If it's a fashion thing, then yeah, sorry. It sucks, no lie.

I suspect that it has something to do with the Dev's constantly worrying about loading too much info along with a character when they enter a zone. They've several times expressed that as a reason why we can't have one thing or another (such as FSH's tackle box), and I'm guessing that this is a case of trimming corners in order to get the feature in. You can have your glamour plates - but only in specific areas, which will then be souped up to support them. Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the mark.

You can't, It says "Unable to execute command while unconscious."

If that were an issue they seem to have fixed it by disabling glamouring while "dead".

Well this doesn't make a whole lot of sense because we can manually glamour individual pieces anywhere... so the only difference is a one-shot mass glamour with the glamour plate versus doing them one at a time manually. If you can manually glamour in a location, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to utilize a glamour plate.

It could make sense actually, at least in limited circumstances. If you're applying a single glamour, the game can do a check "yes, you're alive, let's process that glamour instruction" - but perhaps it would do strange things in the small but not impossible window if you die after setting the "apply these glamours" macro (essentially what the plate is) but before it finishes processing. The possibility of a one-shot death would mean that not even blocking plate usage during combat would be enough to fully prevent the possibility.

So if something like that is a risk, then it might be easier to just prevent the situation outright, by not allowing plates to work anywhere that death is a possibility. (Blue mage actions would be a safe exception, since you can't cast spells and apply plates simultaneously.

Hm. I was under the impression it had more to do with server load. Like, in designated areas, the game simply has less loading to worry about, with no enemies dying/respawning, no FATEs (maybe the occasional seasonal), no gathering nodes, etc. Adding mass glamouring on top of all of that could be a significant strain maybe? Although, city states are exponentially more player-crowded, so maybe it's a null issue.

Poll is a bit of a stretch. Didn't they just judge the amount of screaming done when presented with each option at the NA fanfest?

This is what S-E really said. Like most inconvenient restrictions it's a tech issue rather than an arbitrary design. You can't glam many pieces at once in combat zones due to potential server stress. Same reason they restricted the locations that job equipment boxes can be unpacked, and glamor dressers can be accessed. Back in hw they were even worried about placing fc chests in ishgard and idyllshire due to server load in high populous areas, but I guess that turned out to be a non issue because we ended up getting chests in kugane and reach.

This restriction pretty much makes the glamour dresser an unusable system for me...

When I think of when I would want to be changing jobs, a lot of time it would be outside of the main city.

Then I thought well Gathering would also be outside of the main cities...
Then I thought Crafters, I might be able to use the system for Crafters...

But then I realized that the namazu area would be outside and wouldn't work with the glamour dresser.



So until such a time as glamour plates can be applied anywhere, I have no use for this system.

As long as you have regular glamours that you want to apply repeatedly to gear, there is definitely some use for the glamour dresser. It's fantastic for that.

I have plates set up for classes that I'm currently leveling, and multiple costumes for my main classes. One of my alts has six different healer glamours that I can apply to gear when I feel like it - as long as I'm in a town, of course, but I'm there often enough.

Any time I upgrade gear, I just stamp the glamour plate back over it and I'm back to my proper costume design. No prisms required, and no need to carry the 'projected' gear. Also so much better for including specific jewellery, or hiding it.

They could just add a changing tent when inside would be a safe area. Then could change glamour plates outside of cities and not worry about being attacked.
