Lets due away with death/death penalty.

I'm pretty sure losing 10% durability after each death is considered a penalty. Sorry that the game isn't completely unforgiving like FFXI's death penalty and offers deleveling.
XI death penalty is a joke. With Raise II and III you pretty much lose nothing.
edit:
Equipment wear and tear seems more effective.
ftfy
But in all seriousness, death in FF11 is so pathetic now that the only penalty is really just waiting 5 minutes (which after playing FF14 feels like forever, so does /heal).
FF14's death is fine the way it is with double weak and all. There are much more pressing matters than this to worry about.

What a wonderful evening.
This is a Rokien thread. I think that's really all I need to say.
Edit: (because it's slightly pertinent)
Oh God Why...

10% death penalty in FFXIV at level 50 is 10,000 exp... One leve, less than actually. I'd rather have that as 10% equip durability reduction. Most would agree I think.
This is the second time I'm writing this in less than a week:
I miss belgianrofl.
These new guys just don't have the same charm.
The thing about R1/R2/R3, it didn't matter in the battles you were likely to die the most to begin with - you were going to enjoy the Raise you got regardless of how much you've lost experience points unless you were on a much-needed job that [also] didn't see much EXP otherwise. From when ToAU hit and onward, there was no excuse to not have a +20k buffer on most jobs, and with Campaign, there was no excuse whatsoever (well except for maybe BLM, but I can't say for certain).
In fact, if you were a WHM like me you and someone on a non-important job (like say Dragoon or Warrior) asked for an R3, you'd mark them for an R1 specifically even if it meant waiting until your R1 timer went down just on the off-chance they're intelligent enough to realize the errors of their ways. (Especially since I was the most likely WHM to give everyone an R3 whenever possible during an endgame event; people would ask me for an R3 and I'd be like, "forget it... you know damn well I normally try to give you the best possible Raise.")
Topic - I feel for you, OP. *comfort*
You "give up", but you're still making topics about it?
