Triple Traid 4 star cards

we really need to be able to use as many 4 stars as we want in triple triad. The way the game is now you guys keep releasing 4 star cards no one will use because they just use a 5 star in stead.

So what I am saying is please make 4 star cards usable after like 90 cards or so just like it is for all the other ranks from 1 to 3

There's a bunch of 4-stars I have of characters I like but will never use because of this limitation. I can see them allowing one 4-star in addition to one 5-star sometime in the near future, but I can't imagine them completely unlocking 4-stars anytime soon. It'd be nice if they at least let you set your own deck limits when playing against players, though.

Well there are reasons to run a 4* card over a 5* star depending on what you wanna achieve with the deck. For example, there are no 5* Scion (that I know of) so you have to use a 4* in an Ascension deck, or if the the numbers on one go very well with a Plus/Same deck.

There are uses, just not as varies as you'd think.

Personally I think SE should scrap the current system and put in a * system, where you can use any combination of cards as you like as long as it doesn't go over the limit.

This is one thing I've really really longed for.. I don't want to be restricted to a 5* card and 4x 3* cards.. If I want to I'd much rather have, something like a 5*, 4*, 3*, 3*, 2*.. I've no idea why they didn't do this with Stormblood, but I guess we can always pray for it in ShB..

Agreed. They should let us go 5,4,3,3,3. Right now 4-star cards are mostly useless.

Oh, thank you for that, but that still shows that 4* has a value in that case, with HW Y'Shtola making a really strong corner card for Ascension and still having strong numbers all around, or even HW Thancred and Lyse.

But I agree. I currently have every single 4 and 5* card in the game and I wish that there was more utility in those card ranks.

The meta is stale and rarely changes. The newest cards don't provide much in the way of changing the meta for most matchups with only two notable exceptions... the new Scion tribe card trumps previous power play stated Scion cards due to its ability to Triple A side after 2 ascension plays. The only other cards that have changed meta is for reverse in the 1* cards as there's now an absurdly strong corner 1* deck that you can make now.

My favorite suggestions for remedying the uselessness of 4 star cards is give us a TOTAL star count that we can fill however we want instead of the current system. For example if that total was set at 17 stars (which is the max number of stars possible in a deck right now) you could have the same deck layout we use now; 1 five star card and 4 three star cards OR you could make a deck with 2 four star cards and 3 three star cards OR a deck with 2 five star cards, 2 three star cards, and 1 one star card, etc, etc. This give all level of cards new life and make many more fascinating deck options.

This has been an issue for the longest time, TT is VERY stale atm, and tbh, not very fun anymore. Getting cards isn't really either with all the NPCs that use either Chaos or Order, or just straight up cheat. I hope this really gets looked at, but to be honest, I doubt it will be. We have been asking for this for years now.

It's always frustrating and a little confusing that we're restricted to 1 card that is 5*/4* per deck.

Meanwhile like every NPC has decks with like 1-2 5* and 2-3 4* with a few 2* and 3* to make up the weaker parts of their deck...

Why are we limited in such a way?

I can only think of it trying to prevent newbies being screwed in Tournaments because PvP will have those people with decks full of 4/5* cards would be at an advantage over the people who haven't unlocked many (If any) yet. But really, that's less of an issue as you can just PvE and get a decent score for Tournaments as well as earn a bunch of 4* and 5* cards from PvE (You know, when you manage to beat these NPC decks full of 5* cards with Chaos making it pure RNG where you hope they put their cards in dumb places)

Just kind of annoying to be getting all these cards and they're just useless since there's often just a 5* card that's better than the 4* cards and then you're stuck with filling up on 3* (Since, again, 3* tend to just be better than the 2* and 1* cards outside some very specific decks such as Reverse and some Ascension decks)

I just played a TTC with an NPC and the rule was Ascension. The crappy thing was that he has 4 and 5 star cards so every time he played a any cards that are related then they get a plus 1 or 2. The best I can do is tie with him. The really should let us have a combo of 5* 4* 4* 3* 2*. With some off the NPCs out there with 4 and 5 stars you are luck to bet them.

The deck restriction on players is overdue for change. There's a few different options they could implement but it's already been discussed a lot for years. Lack of purpose for 4-star cards is one of the most compelling reasons to do something. It's just one of those weird lingering issues which gets passed over due to being low priority, I guess, when compared against a lot of other tasks the same team members have to consider.

Maybe 90 cards is too early. With each new expansion there are a number of new cards and new players added to the world. The final few stages of powerup perhaps should take longer.

I do hope though, somewhere near the end of progression, that we can have a deck with unlimited 5 star cards in it. If we have to gain our 4 star cards one at a time... 3, 3, 3, 3, 5 becomes 3, 3, 3, 4, 5, and so forth as we start doing harder and harder goals.

Once we earn our 4's, then harder challenges still before we earn our 5's.

To keep this from getting out of hand against other players, at some part of the progression we have to win a tournament, get a given number of tournament wins, get a given number of tournament cards, and then retire, permemently, from tournaments to cash in and get an achievement that starts to unlock additional 5 * cards.

These final challenges get to be insanely hard in my dreams.

To go from 1 unlimited card, to 2, I've already listed that you have to be done with tournaments.
To get your third unlimited card, you'd need a win against every NPC in the entire world, and to keep it you have to keep having the wins.
The fourth unlimited card? Some insane number of wins under every possible circumstance. Roulette, random, plus, reverse, 10,000 wins under each of the rules.
The fifth unlimited card requires you to have had every card in the game.

Replying here because I want to use as many 4-5 stars as I could in a deck. Those are earned and should not be only stay idle in your pockets.

It’s actually quite stupid that they have not made the rule change yet on how you can use your cards. I fully understand not wanting to discourage new players .But by their own rules they cheat, so I don’t see what the difference would be. It’s not like 4/5* cards are all that hard to get just time consuming. At 246 cards i hardly ever use 90% of them, what a waste.

I think, one thing they could do is unrestrict your deck, but make rewards based on total star tiers. Win with a weaker deck and you get more MGP for the win and have an increased drop rate on the cards.

I hope we get 4* cards unlocked. A lot of great cards are just sitting in the inventory and not being used.

At the same time, there are npcs out there using as many 4* and 5* cards as they like. I'm still trying to get the Hien card but the npc who drops it is incredibly hard to beat (tons of rare cards plus chaos rule).

I understand that it's meant to be challenging, and that in itself is fun. But sometimes it feels really unfair.

Bumping this thread to say that removing limitations on 1-3 star cards but keeping the 4+ star cards is bad. Please at least make it so we can only use 1 5 star card, but let us either use the rest as 4 star OR at least allow us to use 1 4 star and 1 5 star card in our deck (the rest can be 3).

It's ridiculous and unfair when you're paired against an NPC who has multiple 4-5 star cards while you're only allowed 1.

I'd like to see a system that just limits decks by total stars. Right now you can fit 17 stars worth of cards in your deck with four 3 stars and one 5 star, so why not make that the rule instead of limiting 4 and 5 stars to 1 copy only of either?

So for example you can add a 4 star and a 5 star into your deck which makes 9 stars, leaving 8 left for the remaining three cards which means you'd have to use at least one 2 star to balance out adding in a 4 star.

I think this would allow for a lot of different combinations and strategies for certain rulesets while keeping a balance and promoting use of a variety of cards.

I find it amusing that they said a rework was in progress, we all got so excited...

they just removed the progression steps from the start, and left the end game just as dead and pointless as ever.

Pretty much what I expected at this point. My excitement for TT all but evaporated years ago. I might do a few matches here and there against NPCs and add whatever cards that fall into my inventory to my collection...but there's not much point to collecting if I can't even use 70% of what's available. There's no real progression. Just...pointless limitations.

Triple Triad has been my favorite ingame mini-game and collection line, since way back in the FFVIII days!

I was super excited (as were many) for the news of a revamp in the last big patch.

However, no endgame improvements were made... This came as a huge disappointment for the Triple Triad fans...

Specifically, the limit of one 4 or 5 star card in a deck.

I assume this is to keep the NPCs challenging, and the playing grounds fair for PVP.
An imbalance in either of the above would turn off the player base right?
Instead your player base is being pushed away from a lack of interest all together.
Why bother collecting cards you can't use?

I have been using the same decks for YEARS... very sad.

On your forums there are many suggestions by players on how to fix this.

Having read through some of them, I believe the below is a good way to fix the above issue:

-- Weigh the cards by their rarity, and set an overall rarity limit for the deck.
-- The achievements would then expand the overall card rarity total allowed in a players decks.
-- So for current end game the limit would be 3,3,3,3,5 which equals 17. With each additional card collection achievement that limit could go up by 1. Or maybe space it out between the card reward achievements. Honestly an increase of 1 per 100 cards collected still sounds good.
-- All 5 star cards would be 25, so depending on how you allocate the difference of 8, it could take a very long time, and many expansions to get there! So long as there is progress, the difficulty to obtain the reward will mean little.
-- This would be such a huge excitement for your Triple Triad base !!! I get excited just thinking about it! And knowing a new expansion is coming, and then a new card achievement, I would be very excited!

-- Establish a SELECTABLE rule in the game where players use the lower limit of the two players.
-- You could then set limits in different tournaments as you (the developers) see fit.
-- You could also set a rarity limit at each NPC to keep the NPCs challenging.
-- So long as you don't go overboard with that limit. Let us use those rare card decks at least once in a while...

Perhaps you already have plans?
Maybe there is more coming that we don't know about?

Anyhow, it's in poor taste to complain without first positing a practical solution for the basis of a complaint.

I actually think the new Draft format provides a pretty good answer for how to keep 4* (and all rarities for that matter) relevant no matter what cards they add in the future.

Nothing has to be majorly tweaked or overhauled in the current system, just a new "valid deck"-criteria added.

"A legal TT deck must contain:
Four cards between 1-3* and one card between 1-5* (current criteria)
--OR--
No more than one card of each rarity."

One 1*, one 2*, one 3*, one 4* and one 5*.
This is how every deck in the Draft format is designed to always come out, no matter which card pools you pick.

In addition to 4* cards getting a meaningful use, 1* and 2* cards would also gain relevancy beyond just filling out a player's collection or the occasional game with specials rules (such as Ascension or Reverse).
This would give dedicated players with larger collections both the option and incentive to use more of their available cards, which could make deck-crafting less stagnant than just making yet another 33335-build.
Deck balance is also less threatened as while players would be allowed to strengthen the high-end of their deck by adding a 4*, they'd do so in exchange for weakening the low-end (using a 1* and 2* in place of two 3*).
Additionally, it could mitigate some potential player frustration when playing NPCs that are "cheating" (in that they have a deck that is illegal for a player to use) because their "cheat"-cards would more often be their extra 1*, 2*, or 3* cards, not their extra 4* or 5*.

I imagine everyone would just run a 11355 deck because having two AA cards would be OP in matches with no rules. The 1s would be corner bait and the 3 would be a last turn throwaway since it wouldn't be able to claim anything.

PLEASE give us some sort of usability for 4* cards. It shouldn't take the rare exception to warrant having one in your deck, and not at the expense of a decent corner blocker or useful card.
This is especially frustrating when playing NPCs, who already have something like 0.8 % drop rates. Seeing them play much stronger cards than you are capable of using is even more frustrating, as it feels like you're the only character in Eorzea with this restriction

This is why I don't support the idea some have proposed of a "deck points" system. As-is, you'd need 17 points for the current standard 3+3+3+3+5 (=17) decks, which would just become 11555 decks (also =17) which would completely destroy any semblance of deck balance and wouldn't realistically end up doing anything for 4*.

As I pointed out in my post above, my personal vote is for adding the "Draft" deck structure (Your deck having to specifically be 12345) as an option for prebuilt decks. Draft already demonstrates these decks can be strong without approaching overpowered territory (at least while playing other Draft decks anyway), while also being able to address many of the issues with TT currently (also above).

(Sidenote: Why would your 3* be your "last turn throwaway"-card in a 11355 deck? If it "wouldn't be able to claim anything", that should be one of your 1* since your 3* would be able to block/capture on earlier turns.)

Unfortunately, letting us use 33345 decks would just be straight up power creep, which is never the right answer in game design. Especially since it'd mean new NPCs might have to cheat EVEN MORE for SE to think they provide any sort of challenge. If you think current NPCs are annoying, imagine them all now being as bad as Isobe, whose deck can be as strong as 44555 (or even 45555 because he also has Plus+Swap and may take your 5*). I'd expect most players beyond myself would also rather mix up deck-building beyond just swapping out one stagnant meta (33335) for a new, slightly-more-powerful one (33345). It'd be "fresh" for a few months then the same "haven't changed my deck in years" issues would slowly creep back in.

I admit, I was lazy and only drew up one test game in MS Paint and this was just one scenario I found. The 3 star card would be able to capture but it wouldn't be able to block a 5 star card with AA, and an opponent wouldn't take the 3 star card back with one of their 5 star cards if that left it open. This results in 1 star cards being placed in the corners for easy captures, 5 star cards being placed on the sides to capture and block, and the 3 star card having to go in the middle surrounded by As which ends in a draw.

A little bummed we are just getting the "power creep"-solution, but it does basically mean most NPCs aren't cheating anymore. That alone brings a good QoL improvement.
Still, if we thought just getting one 4* would be metabreaking, now we get TWO! ('o' )!

That is what it sounds like, yeah. Even so it's a massive improvement over what we have now, and it opens up a ton of possibilities.
