Did this bother anyone else? They ripped her directly from FF12 remaster. Which would be fine if it was the actual Fran. But having our version of Fran use the real Fran's model is odd, to say the least.

The Viera models probably aren't ready yet. I wouldn't worry about it.
Fran probably does give people a bit of a look as to what we should expect though. The model's there and all. As to the OP, no, it didn't bother me. It also wasn't copy > pasted from one game to another. They had to give Fran a new model to be put into the game.
The lack of Balthier was pretty jarring.
Far more detailed ass texture on xiv, which i gladly welcomed
BUT CMIIW ffxii Fran have long nail, which i reallllllyyyy adore and in ffxiv she have normal lenght which make me feel meh
i believe its just a great recreation... do correct me if im wrong
and i wont forgive the lack of long nails...
As I recall, our introduction to the Au Ra was with Yugiri, whom was using a Miqo'te character model at the time. The final model just probably isn't ready yet.
Probably due to clipping with certain items.
...
"I don't like it."
"But...we put in Fran in the game exactly the way you wanted!"
"Yeah... but maybe it's TOO much like Fran. Do it over, and this time try not to embarrass yourselves."
Swear, one of these days, Yoshi-P's just going to snap and murder everyone at a Fan Fest.
lol that's funny because it's true. Most patches we have threads asking why this wasn't voice acted or why that wasn't voice acted,
Ok have an entire raid voice acted...
"too much voice. Must needs be muted"-_-
I do prefer the raid having voice acting feels more immersive and good voice work will always enhance things and to me they talked enough except TG who starts talking about 1 thing to have to quickly say another because the fight is much faster pace than his lines allow a mechanical failure not a VA failure
It's supposed to be the XII Fran, because Ivalice.
Cameos work like that.
Wasn't it the whole point for it to look like the character she's obviously directly inspired from?
It would be more jarring for her to NOT look like what we remember.
I don’t see what the issue is with her model being taken from the XII remaster and put in here? It’s not like this is the first time they’ve taken aspects directly from previous Final Fantasys and put them in XIV.
She's most likely a preview like Yugiri was before she removed her mask. Our version of viera are 90% sure to look WAY different compared to Fran.
The XIV Fran model is not a rip from XII. If you look back at the XII model she has longer arms, bigger hands and claws. The proportions of the body are slightly different as well. They definitely did a good job of making her look similar enough that she is recognizable, but made adjustments so that her body would fit into the world of XIV and it's gear restrictions.
Looked like a copy and paste ff12. Still don't see how fran has anything to do with new content and why they brought her into the game.
It will only start to be weird if Fran becomes a staple part of the Eorzean Alliance if/when Dalmasca joins the fray. Constantly seeing the characters of the 5.0 MSQ going through the storyline...with Fran from FFXII by their side, will be a little weird, yes. I suspect we will not see Fran again except as an NPC standing around on the Prima Vista (or killed off!), and it will be her as-yet-unseen boss, FFXIV's version of Ashe, who will be the Dalmasca stand-in for the Alliance. This Ashe acting/looking only passingly similar to FFXII's Ashe the same way FFXIV's Krile is only passingly like FFV's Krile.
Dalmasca while being an officially established thing in FF 14 due to Dalmascan Fusilier in Doma... I don't know if it will be particularly relevant in Shadowbringers. With where the MSQ is headed, it doesn't seem so.
I disagree. The models are VERY different in details and texture, just look:

FFXII:

They are clearly not the same.
FFXII's models are much more detailed in it's texture. FFXIV is just bland texture all over while FFXII has details to skin shadow and tone, the hair, while not having HD textures, has more polygons and has a unique color.
The body is also completely different, since datamine confirms that Fran is using a Hyur Body.

Her eye colour and eyebrow shape is a little different too than FF12 remastered Fran
Edit: which I noticed before the side-by-side :3.
Another edit: They made her ears shorter in FF14 too :/
As for the lack of claws on FFXIV Viera, I'll probably just use the claws of the beast which I use on my miqote already
Keep in mind, the characters in FFXII usually look more detailed in cutscenes than in actual gameplay. The same technique is also used in Kingdom Hearts, and they do well in there as well.
In FFXIV you have the 'one size fits all' approach, with maybe a new set of animations to be different.
people who say the model are the same are just not care enough to compare

I was hoping this thread was bait, but it clearly is not. Wish you weren't so awkward, bud.
You guys are insane. This Fran is clearly a new or perhaps reworked model. Any amount of comparison is enough to be painfully obvious that it's different. Fran has never looked like this before. Not in-game. Not in CG. Not ever. The difference was big enough for me to recognize there was a difference immediately upon seeing her in XIV.
i'd say it's highly likely the viera model we get to work with that has been given unique features as they do with NPC's to recreate fran.
like the long black fingers thing was surely not going to make it into 14 for the sake of gloves and her feet were also less beastial since they'll need to fit in boots pretty soon
i would hope the viera base model is done by now since they have to go through almost the entire armor catalog to make the viera cuts. not having the facial and hair features ready won't matter for that so much
It's always been like that and will never change.
In v1 when they announced non choco mounts everyone clammered for goobbue and coeurl which ended up being the top 2 of player-made surveys and always listed in various "mounts we want" posts, so they put goobbue in and the forums exploded with hate. There was just extreme venom from the devs putting something in that people wanted.
No one is ever happy, even when they get exactly what they want. Game development is one of the most thankless jobs out there. I miss the days they made a game and you just played it. If you didn't like something, too damn bad, you played it anyway cause you liked it.
