2019 Patch 4.5 Release Schedule FEEDBACK

Please stop releasing content such as; "limited jobs", Eureka, and any other content on a weekly basis.

If players want to do MSQ they should be allowed to do that at their own pace.

If players want to do limited Job content they should be allowed to do that whenever they wish as well from the release of the patch.

We do not want content to be staggered by release.

I as a player feel very offended when I have to wait an additional week to play new content, because the development team decided without inquiring from player feed back whether we want the content to be staggered.

The ONLY time staggered release content is acceptable is on the release of a new expansion so that players do not have to rush through the story to get to end game content.

Please consider for future patches and expansions these desires of the players.

Additionally, due to the Subscription nature of this game, often time my subscription may run out 1 or 2 days after a patch is released.

I should not have to decide as a player to renew my subscription to try out new content that should be released on the same day as the rest of the patch.

This constraint causes me to unsubscribe from Final Fantasy XIV online because I feel as a player that the development team and producer are trying to "milk" every dollar from me, rather than develop quality content, and release it in a timely manner.

Because of this my trust in this development team and producer is weaker because I do not feel that they care about the players and our feedback

I prefer it this way than having to rush and do everything on day 1 to keep up with everyone.

Some staggering is needed to prolong the content a bit. Such is the nature of MMOs. I do wish they would release more at the start of a patch though, don't get me wrong. It's just how they do things and have been doing so for years. If you want to see some intense content staggering, look at WoW recently. You will appreciate how they patch this game a bit more.

Oh no. One week. Just consider blue mage having it's own little patch that's a week from the other one.

sometime stuff is staggered because they want to not overwhelm the player base - other times it is staggered because things are not completely finished yet. rabid content eater much? they have a vision as to how they want the players to enjoy the content. not see it gobbled up in one sitting with a giant mess left behind :p

I don't see much of a problem with them staggering content currently. It's fine to not gobble up all content on day one, and it's also going to be passed the holiday season. People have lots to do and FFXIV isn't the only thing out there, even if it's on a subscription fee.

This will give people time to play/do other things no matter if I can finish everything or not. It's not always a bad thing to stagger content.

Not to mention....it's a week, it's not that long. If necessary, hold back on renewing your subscription until the week after the patch. There is really no reason to rush.

Don't want to miss what's coming? Stay subbed. Can't stay subbed due to financial reasons? Not much that can be done on their end. Been in that boat myself once or twice. But the simple solution is to sub for the content you want. I don't understand your problem, tbh. If you're talking about BLU? It's only staggered for a week after release, then it will be available. So...stay subbed if you can.

I think the spacing we saw in some previous patches actually hurt Eureka a bit.

I agree that patches shouldnt be split by weeks, especially if you have a massive .x5 patch planned out. Put out half the content on one, half the content on others, and spare us the regular Monday night patches.

I'd also rather it not be staggered. I admit that HoH died very quickly when they released the next part of Eureka, however Ivalice is something we'll only be doing once a week, so there's no reason to not have something else to fill the gap. I didn't even looking if there's another part to Eureka coming, but delaying Blue Mage isn't going to make a difference for that.

Eureka hurt Eureka, the spacing probably didn't help. Before we were given relic steps which kept us busy between patches. For Eureka (and the relic) we've had to wait for months on end to even progress them. That's just...horrible design.

Well then, just unsub and get free time (the welcome back campaigns they do like every patch) courtesy of the dev team. You can then play for a day or two and try everything free without paying anything. Or just wait until the last patch where everything is already out then play everything at once. /shrug They've been doing this forever and considering what the competition is doing (pretty much the same thing but even worse IMO, with time gated content even after the content is released), I doubt they are going to stop.

I find it amusing the OP actually thinks the dev team is going to cater to their specific needs. Reality check. It isn't going to happen. When they release new parts of the msq they give the players time to enjoy it before adding other content. If you don't like it there is the door.

I'm happy the content is staggered because it gives me time to do stuff without rushing. Which is my preferred play style

TBH, I'd rather wait a week for BLU. I can do the story, and the new side content the week of release, then stroll into the week after with free time for BLU.

I appreciate that this situation may not be ideal for everyone, but it certainly is for me.

I would prefer they stop staggering content releases like this as well. With raids after expansions I understand they don't want to pressure from raid groups to skip cutscenes or otherwise blast through all that comes with an expansion to be able to raid ASAP. I also somewhat understand when content gets pushed back to one of the .05 patches because it just didn't end up ready in time. With Blue Mage releasing a week after the other content, I don't see that same reasoning, and it seems more like a stall strategy to keep people subscribed.

Personally, I sometimes like to request a day off work for a new patch content, and it's a little disappointing that small portions of it will be put in their own release days, making that less useful when I can only try a couple things for that one day.

I doubt that the dev team conspired to swindle its player base for a weeks worth of sub money. BLU mage is ready, and is prepared for future patches. They said as much in today's live letter. The delay is not a money grab or punishment, its been thought out and planned. Personally, i think it will help BLU. with most of the player base being done with 4.5 part one in the first week, it only means more people will be playing BLU upon release. More people playing BLU, means more people working together, more information gathered by the community,and more fun, for those who wish to partner up with other aspiring BLUs.

Alot of people aspouse that Yoshi-P has lost his "edge", but i have faith in what the team are trying to achieve. While BLU may come of as "bold and risky", it is also new and interesting. if it flops, it flops, but if it succeeds, then it could provide the bedrock for the limited job system to take off.

We shall just have to wait and see...

The OP might not be the most eloquent, but I agree with their point. Staggering the content out has some negative effects.

Firstly, it makes each individual patch less exciting. When patch 2.1 dropped it introduced player housing, PvP, 24 man raids. extreme primals (Not one, but FIVE), Hildabrand, two dungeons, two beast tribes, treasure maps, and the aesthetician. It was like a mini-expansion all on its own. It was incredibly fun to log in and barely be able to even sample all of the stuff in a day. Let alone experience all the depth they had to offer. That kid-in-a-candy-store feeling is gone now. Patch 4.5 will have ONE new dungeon, a 24 man raid, one new trial/extreme, one new custom delivery client, and a board game. That's it. I'll have that knocked out in a couple of hours. The excitement for patch day is now only because of new MSQ for me.

Second, lets say you're someone that is mostly excited about one particular piece of content: like Blue Mage or Eureka. Now instead of getting your most anticipated content on patch day you instead have to wait for sometimes weeks, while other players are getting their most anticipated item right away. I'd rather we just get all of the patch's content at once and be able to play them in whatever order we wish instead of getting that order dictated for us.

My feedback is to do the opposite of everything OP said. I enjoy eureka, I’m looking forward to BLU (and reserving my opinion until I play it myself.) I have a busy real life so staggering content is great for me. I work overtime occasionally to pay for my sub so it doesent bother me. I have never had more faith in a development team and producer then this games. Then again full disclosure I’ve been playing on and off since 1.0 so I might be biased.

I must agree that I'm not a fan of their decision to postpone the release of Blue Mage by a week. I can understand how releasing everything at once can be overwhelming, but presenting content upfront gives players a choice. If you want to focus on the main scenario first and worry about Blue Mage the following week, you are free to do so. For those who are eager to try out Blue Mage, they can choose to do that before focusing on the story.

It would be one thing if they said that Blue Mage wasn't ready to be shipped out yet, but they flat out said that it's ready. And since it is ready, I would prefer to let players choose what content they want to work on first.

These are my thoughts exactly. I was really looking forward to jumping on BLU the moment the patch dropped, and dip my toes into the other things a few days later. I suppose it's better for it to be pushed back a week as opposed to, say, a month, but still. I'm not a huge fan of this recent trend of SE staggering content, and I'm sure I speak for plenty of people when I say I know how to pace myself and not burn through new content. If people want to do that, then that's their prerogative. I can understand pushing content back in order to fine-tune it (which was the impression I got when they were staggering the releases of things like Eureka and HoH), but if it's good to go and ready to be released, then I see no reason for them not to.

Edit: Also more staggered content = more maintenance periods to implement said content. Why would anyone want this.

A few replies seems to mistakenly think that I am complaining about the cost of the subscription.

However, this is not the case the cost of the subscription is irrelevant, the timing of when you subscribe affects when you can try out different content.

So if I am a person that pays month to month, I could have less value from my subscription just because I subscribed on the 7th of the month however every patch ends up being released on the 8th of a month.

This causes a problem for me to feel as if my subscription is not being used to produce new content or on the other hand if my subscription ends on the day of a patch it feel that my money is being utilized to create less and less content. and this makes me as a customer feel cheated and robbed.

My request is that the producer and development team inquire more with the community as to what kind of content should be staggered , and when it should be staggered, rather than making the decision on their own and having the players suffer for it.

It is necessary to do. If not for this staggering, the content on patch would be "devoured" by some people in a frightening pace, they then would cry that they want new content, create bad press etc.


Reality is very simple. If you want all the content to be released at once then you are fine with staying behind. Because you will on something. You can only do one thing at a time after all. If that is the case, what is the difference between you doing that content on, say, January 1 to 31 and then unsubscribing until next patch, or unsubscribing now until, say, March, then do all the content released between now and March in March 1 to 31?! Logically speaking there is zero practical difference. It is 100% impatience. But what you suggested, there's a problem with that. If they will release in a staggered manner, there will be ~1-2 months of content "life". If they release in a non-staggered manner, there will be ~5-6 months of content "life". In other words, it's all in your head. There is no practical or financial difference for a consumer between staggering and "all in your face" reason, except the fact that the first allows person to keep up with everyone at all times in everything, and the other one does not.

Most replies in forums tend to be players that pick one line or word just to disagree with the post.

Going forward into future patches there is content that may be delayed for "non-pertinent" reasons that can affect your gameplay experience and expectations.

Such as blue mage, which is advertised as "solo-play" content. Why does "solo player content" have to be delayed due to MSQ which also has an amount of "solo-play" to it. These two pieces of content should NOT affect each other so drastically that 1 must be delayed to supplement the other.

Actually...the way content has been consumed, yes, it has been a problem that has been stressed out a lot. Staggering content is something of a necessary evil right now because a lot of the playerbase gobbles up content incredibly fast. There's really not enough fresh content as is that will last between patches (Eureka is its own other mess that I won't dive into right now). I mean, shoot, staggered content as it is now is still leaving droughts between patches with a lot of people having nothing to do. Your suggestion to stop the staggering will only make that in-between drought come faster. To each their own, as the saying goes, but removing the staggering schedule will probably create more problems than leaving it in place.

What the devs do need to do, however, is actually put in content that actually engages the playerbase and make those droughts go away - but that's a discussion for another thread.

It already takes months to get patches at all. Having a few things held back a couple weeks is barely a big deal, we're still going to get a mega patch to begin and give us *plenty* of content and things to do.

Waiting another week honestly is not so bad at all, I'd honestly prefer we wait a week until savage drops whenever we get a new tier so I didn't have to skip everything else and RUSH through normalscape just to be able to run savage that night with my group.

@Kaivac I disagree the way content is consumed isnt a problem because you as a player want to play the game.

The longevity of the content is a different issue.

Where as here we have Blue mage being released that could have a longevity we are not used to as players, and it is being delayed without player approval.

Every single MMO's forum, this ones as well, says otherwise. There are TONS of posts of people saying that there's not enough to do. Starting in less than a week after expansion hits. Yes, the rate of development VS consumption is, always was and always will be a problem.

Eh...Yeah?! That's kinda normal order to these things...right?! You can't do stuff that's not released yet. Are you complaining to Square Enix that you finished playing Final Fantasy I to XX and want Final Fantasy XXI? No. Because XVI to XX aren't even released yet.

It doesn't matter why. It doesn't matter whether it's by developers choice or by necessity (the content not being made yet). As a consumer, you have access to content only when it is released at which point you may start playing it. What is the difference here between patch 4.5 and expansion 5.0?! I'm willing to bet that most of it is already done. I'm almost certain that all of it will be "done" at least a month or two before release. It will be held back to keep the release schedule. Like every single game out there. It'll be good if they will actually use that time to look for and fix bugs, but they're likely going to start working on something else instead...like mog shop items.

The difference here is that you know what is coming and you want it "now" due to impatience. That is not a problem in a grand scheme of things. That's natural and it is unavoidable. You are inconvenienced...sure...but there are many people that are not. Ones that don't want to have to choose between keeping up with this friend that likes this content or that friend that wants that content. People that don't want to be spoiled left, right and center just because X person did something else than they did and wanted to talk about it. People that want to do it "as it hits", which is possible only if it does not hit simultaneously.

And?! Whether it affects gameplay, experience and expectations or not...it's just not relevant until it hits. It will not lose value (or gain for that matter) just because it will hit later. Sorry, I just don't ride any hype trains per se. If something is delayed I fill my "freed" time with something else. It's as simple as that. Ultimately my goal is to enjoy myself, what I am doing that brings me enjoyment does not matter, really.

Here you completely undermined yourself. Blue Mage and Main Story Quests both being solo is EXACTLY why they need to be separated. Because as they are both solo...both of them appeal to the same crowd at the same time. Meaning that the same crowd will have to choose between one and the other. Every single person. Not the minority as will be the case with Hildibrand and PvP that have separate "spots". Whichever they choose, they'll finish it and start the other after. And how does staggering one affect these players?!

Well, they'll still do one after the other. They'll still get to enjoy both. But they won't be forced to make the choice and they won't risk being spoiled by someone that made a different choice. They won't feel being "left behind" either for not doing what they WANT to do, because they had to choose the other thing instead.


You are impatient, that's it. I give you that you put more effort into your posts than yer average person complaining due to their impatience...but ultimately there is nothing much behind it. It's like people complaining that they'll get a double issue of a weekly magazine, but there will be a week of break. Or vice versa, people getting half of what they got normally but at twice the rate. Same thing here. And yet release schedules are held for decades sans some actual, practical reasons (like a change in competition on a given time frame).

It is released in a timely and consistent manner. Many people on this forum in fact complain about the schedules being TOO timely and TOO consistent, to the point of being easy to predict.

It's just not the sort of schedule you want. You want bulk content with tons of nothing at all in-between, so that you can just unsubscribe and forget until next bulk...or so that you can complain about the lack of content and wanting more to be made faster.

If you want to see the true effects of an uncaring development team or company then I suggest you take a look at Blizzard and Bethesda. Or read about the trainwreck 1.0 was before Yoshida came along. FFXIV is by no means perfect but gosh so many here don't realise how good we have it.

Ah, the worn out "I'm-paying-therefore-devs-must-bow-to-my-whims" argument; an oldie but a goodie. It always seems to surface at some point in any complaint thread. You pay your sub fee for the right to log on to SE's servers and access the FF14 content therein. That's it. Absolutely nothing else is guaranteed to you, as per the ToS you agree to when making an account. Why you choose to pay the sub fee may involve content being "released in a timely and consistent manner" but SE is by no means contractually obligated to fulfill your personal wishes on that or any other matter.

Be as impatient as you like. Complain as much as you want (impotent as it may be.) But this particular "argument" has no bearing on the issue at hand.

IDK with this patch I like the later release.

I cannot image what to do if everything was in just 1 patch.

Do you do MSQ first, or the 24 man, or the 4 lords, or Eureka.

Honestly if it all came out at once I would do MSQ up till after completing the dungeon, then the 24 man up until completing the raid, and then immediately jump into Hydatos and not even touch blue mage until I am done with my Eureka weapon and perhaps work on the new EX trial.

Having too much to do in a game is a good problem to have. But having fresh new content release in waves before the next expansion IMO is better than getting it all at once and then having people complain for 4 months because they blew through things in the first month.

Perfectly fine the way it is. Keep up the good work SE. Really happy Blue Mage is a week later gives me time to do the main story and other things before getting into it.

So you're basically upset because the developers are releasing content that isn't even relevant at endgame a mere week later than the content that is actually relevant at endgame.

The devs aren't staggering BLU because of some ulterior financial motive. They're saving you from yourself.

(But really, the real reason is probably related to BLU having a much higher chance of having something so bugged out the arse that they'd rather do emergency patches for BLU week 2 instead of ticking off everyone who doesn't care about BLU at all and trying to do other content during week 1. And let's be real, everyone expected BLU to be released towards March/April, not a week after patch.)

'Tonnes of people'
Let me explain something to you.The audience who post on forums are not a majority and they by no means represent the majority of players most of the time.
SE acts more on places like reddit because that generally is the voice of the majority.
Hence why when people complained here about the UNGARMAX glitch it was ignored until it became a big deal over on reddit.
There are a lot more casual players than raid orientated players and those players most likely dont care about rushing through all the content at once like its some kind of time trial.

Man, all is good in the hood. But do you know, the game pays for itself with all our subscriber fees? Man, I do not complain because this game is literature and a Bible. Man, as much as I am Mexian I am straight up Native American, Italian, and Spanish. Well all I know is Elizebeth Warren and Hillary Clinton must be running around here. Who watches MSNBC? I as a Dragon, Elf and Human in the FF14 universe don't. Well, I'm looking forward to all the PAID CONTENT I pay, freakin' love this game like most of us do. They just can't appeal to the non-consumer, that is an Economic term. All I know is the wrong side hate Viera and Blue Mage which are straight up gangster. Play boy and play girls unite with the Viera, man. Man, I love this game. So much controversy about a patch, well wait till you get a load of Shadowbringer.
