Anyone else really excited about this? I'm really curious to find out some more info about this!! My only concern is that it's going to be locked behind free company 4 player wall like subs and aircrafts....

Final Farmville XIV. Boi I can't wait XD but seriously, I welcome new, unique content in the game. If it is anything like really managing a farm, even better
Wonder if it'll be like moogle garden (island).. :O. Same concerns on limited quantity though. Still praying they get around to nearing Wildstar Instanced housing quality (mechanically, visually FFXIV is doing great like usual).
They announced farms?? :O

End-game content for Disciples of the Hand and Land. The Restoration of the Holy See of Ishgard! Possibly Ishgardian Housing coming as well, as it was strongly hinted based off of players constantly wishing to be able to live there… Fishers will be included in this end-game content, and there will be something like user-controlled farms. (Farmer is NOT one of the new jobs).
:O :O :)
I was previously hyped.
I have moved to.... LUDICROUS HYPE.
Perhaps it will be like community gardens. Either way it sounds pretty good. Gatherers DOL have been neglected for sometime in this game
Yay Harvest Moon....
Oh hell, am I finally gonna have to level a DoL job?
Not at all. Maybe it'll be decent, but after how gardening and houses have been covered so far, I'm keeping my expectations minimal.
I'll be excited when there's actual information. Maybe squadron levels of fun, but renamed to farmhands and without the dungeons? What is the bare minimum it could translate to? That's my expectation bar.
Setting expectations low, as always.
Could end up as something as menial and forgettable as Squadron mission deploying. Throw-in a little something for seed/crop growing (for those without a personal house), and call it "new."
This will either be really good, or they'll add the Enix touch to it and it'll end up an over-complicated mess with no focus on fun like Verminion or Squadron deployment missions.
Considering their track record, I'm setting my expectations to zero, but I'll keep a "wait and see" attitude and hope they surprise me.
It could be fun. Will need to see how the mechanics work to know for sure.
Don't get hyped. Never get hyped.
Here's something from an interview I got hyped about.
Sounds incredible right? Group craft a customizable airship you'll be able to use not just to explore with, but also to fly yourself, equip it with weapons and have airship combat, but also an open world area where you're competing with other FCs for monsters and materials? And its being advertised as a major part of the expansion content and on top of that, Yoshi described it in yet another interview as something the developers put a lot of love and effort into? Sign me up!Quote:
At the start of Heavensward once you build your airship you’ll be able to send it out to scout, no passengers, just the ship goes out to try and scout. And then in a following patch you’ll then be able to board that ship and explore and find uncharted areas. And even beyond there’ll be capabilities to add combat capability so you can have sort of a battleship. So it’s going to be very major content that will become available throughout the 3.x patch series. Once you’re able to go out and explore and travel and find those different areas in the sky you may find that some of these areas may have Notorious hardcore monsters that you can’t beat and just end up defeated and having to have to come back. Or you may find that other Free Company have already visited and trashed it and made a mess of it. Or you may end up finding a land where you can find really rare gathering items, materials that you can harvest. So there will be a lot of very interesting things you can look forward to in the 3.x series.
I was hyped for that, super hyped. Ludicrous hyped I'd even say. What I got was a long, expensive list of materials that one member of the FC gathers, then drags 3 warm bodies to stand in a "workshop" and do nothing so that we "craft" what are nothing but inanimate retainers for a renamed kind of retainer venture. But you can ride them! --to a static instance with nothing to do but grind monsters.
Don't get hyped for anything, least of all something that was only mentioned offhandedly.
So, farms? Probably going to just be a renamed house garden.
Ah yeah that was a really awesome hope.. lol.. /sad.
They need to make sure /every/ FC has some way to access this content and then I hope develop it further, it definitely feels stunted but in a direction that could be great. I was under the impression there would be some sort of airship dock and you'd get to see it built up when I heard about that, I was hype lol.
I was imagining and hoping that airships could be a solution to the messed up housing system, like a FC could just drain all their money into that instead and have a flying house in essence (substantial money if big, but still). That and the thought of exploring a map with an airship of mates (or even solo perhaps) like FFXI airship/boat ride except you're the driver..
Hopefully the farm isn't just an interface that you click through ;/
I'd like to hope this will be a way for people who don't have as much time to gather to legitimately get resources without having to do it manually (Since the alternative people have been abusing is bots).
Its a bit of an irony since Shougun and I were just joking about menu content, but one example of that might interest you. Retainers can be sent out to collect specific materials (Disciples of War/Magic retainers can be sent to retrieve drops from monsters and botanist/miner retainers can be sent out to get gatherable resources), which you may find helpful. Each of these task costs 1 Venture, which is a currency you can most commonly earn from Grand Company in exchange for company seals. I find it a great way to gather resources without needing to do it manually.
Since we already have retainer ventures for easy gathering resources and housing gardens for crossbreeding/seed growing purposes, I hope whatever these farms are offers something new. (mandatory on topic paragraph because of my derail)
I'm not hyped. Access to gardening for individulals and fcs who don't have houses would be wonderful and is long, long overdue. However, it's quite possible they'll twist this idea into something new that's simply time-consuming and boring. If they lock really good rewards behind it, they'll see everyone doing it and declare it a success, until the complaints get too loud to ignore.
I was hyped for pet-battles, Free Company Crafting, the Diadem and most recently Eureka. None of those things turned out to be much fun but I've grudgingly done them all. So, I'm quietly hoping this will be good, but I'm keeping my expectations very low.
The airship discussion just reminded me to put my expectations even lower. I also hope it also provides more than just mob drops. Maybe we can farm fish too?
Very much looking forward to seeing how farms turn out - more content like this is always welcome. ^_^
My expectations are a retread of the MoP farm in WoW, which would rule frankly. That was my favorite content in that game. The most likely reality is it will be a way to garden for non-homeowners, which will be very dull. I have a home and I haven't used my gardens in over a year.
Every time a new "feature" is announced I can't stop remembering how Chocobo training ended up and quickly lose my interested.
Agreed.
I'm at the stage where I have stockpiles of 500+ of most useful ores, leathers and other materials simply from sending out retainer ventures. I think retainers are more than enough, anything further just invalidates gathering. I'd like to see something new and interesting rather than a free material dispenser.
I can't see it being like the MoP farm. Look at MoP pet battling and then look at what they did with Verminion.
The thing is that while retainers can gather certain resources, they almost never can get the stuff that's needed for the latest crafts.
IE, FSH retainers can only gather snailfish at best, which were only relevant back in 4.2. If they could get Koromo Octopi for the Takoyaki recipe, they'd be a lot more useful.
I thought people were being overly negative again but then you reminded me about the fc airship situation. Ok fair point that came out far below expectations. I really wish they'd at least do some QoL on it; let me enter Diadem gathering mission solo, let me progress workshop projects solo. The arbitrary restrictions on those things badly hurt them. You can't turn solo interactions into group content by putting party restrictions on them; there has to be some kind of purpose for other people to be involved or they won't want to. It's probably for the best that they abandoned future development on weaponised airship building and exploratory missions since fc content would always be unfair to people who don't have an fc estate or don't have the rank/privilege of accessing the ships.
I anticipate it being like getting to purchase a plot, and setting it to be a large chunk of gardening nodes instead of a house. You could easily fit like 128 garden points in the space of a small house.
I think some of you should lower your expectations. Player run farm wasn't even announced as a big feature, not even a slider, it was a short side comment that was brushed away very quickly to continue talking about other major features. If SE didn't consider it big enough to have a proper announcement expect a very basic system, probably no much different than retainer ventures or chocobo raising, a few clicks and waiting for your mats.
I'm not saying that it's a major feature, but what you said is just incorrect. The 'slide' was about Disciples of Land and Hand getting new content. It was general without getting in-depth for anything. Using that as argument that it's nothing major is like saying that beast tribes or dungeons won't be anything big because they didn't get talked about much either.
The fact of the matter is that it was just one Live Letter, with another part soon enough. And only one of three Fan Fests. They're obviously going to avoid talking about things. Farms may get more recognition in a number of other venues.
So yes, don't get your hopes up, but for a different reason than what you wrote.
Are you picturing that happening in the actual housing wards though? Aside of the overall demand for plots, the system might not be able to handle so many interactive objects loaded into one space.
Even with the current housing wards, we have a strict limit on how many garden beds we can place - we're not allowed to fit in as many as we can physically place in the garden.
If we had a setup like that, it would have to be instanced somewhere.
(And also would definitely need a more efficient way of mass planting/watering/harvesting.)
This is what I'm hoping for. Any size housing plot, with no house, all garden patches instead. You could also place a small house on a larger plot if you wanted, and use the rest of the outdoor space for gardening.
This would be the simplest solution, adjust some numbers in the existing housing system.
I seem to recall them letting it slip at Fanfest EU that Farms would involve minions in some way. I believe it will be some kind of animal farm rather than gardening
