For all the rage on Blue Mage, mine included lol, I'm over here PRAYING the Gunblade job will be a DPS knowing it's probably a tank lol.
I've wanted a Gunblade job that plays like Squall from Dissidia since my FFXI days.

Sure, have 4 DPS classes back to back, wouldn't even surprise me to be honest.
The excuse probably being "We completely reworked DRK".
I’m hoping for a hint of a healer next fanfest.. fingers crossed
If Monk has to share Striking sets with Samurai, then Dragoon should have to share Maiming sets with Soldier/Gunblader, and Ninja Scouting sets with Dancer.
Shame Blue Mage is limited, I'd have liked to have seen Red Mage moved off Caster sets (robes don't become a Red Mage IMO), the two could share a Fencer INT set (although with a cane as a weapon I guess not now) or something... It would have pleased me to see two jobs on each DPS gear set; two ranged, two scouting, two caster, two fencer, two striking, two maiming. Two sets for INT, two sets for DEX, two sets for STR... It would have been perfect...
fun thing is if Gun becomes a tank, then tanks will have 4 Sword classes while dps has technically one ;w; i would love a proper sword class as a dps
i kind of think they might be a reverse RDM, a class focusing on close up attacks with ranged combos
Ya know, on the one hand I'd be fine with us DPS people not getting anything now. We had two deeps in Stomblood, Ninja is better than ever (screw HW ninja) and tanks and healers really need new toys.
But there is no way in hells the gunblade job will be tank. Gunblades have always been two handed weapons. Or used with no off hand at least (Jake is the only exception who dual wields.)
So Gunblade class as tank would be:
The third out of four tanks to use sword.
The third out of four tanks not to use a shiled (the icon for tanks)
The third out of four tanks to use parry.
No way. We will have another surprise class for tank. Or Dancer as the evasion tanks and something else as the surprise healer
That's not how you spell pimp.
You- you realise that two of the three tanks have two-handed weapons, right?
My money is 100% in GUN tank, but that's because I believe the blufever leaks (BLU in 4.5, viera+ronso, GUN tank and DNC heals). So far it's been spot on, as have their other leaks.
I do hope Squalls revolver or Lion heart is a glamor weapon for Gunblade tank like chicken knife was for RDM
If they make it a tank they might as well just be giving DRK a gunblade glamour weapon.
It better not be another DumPS.
Guys, It's a tank.
My hope was some kind of weird inverse redmage ranged physical slot to make that catagory seem less lonely (with BLU as a tank because where else would a mage designed to be hit go.. right? RIGHT????)
But Ya Boi is gonna be a gunblade in the expansion and in the trust pool shown. That pool has 1 healer 3 dps and 1 gunblade. It needs to be a tank if that's the only pool we're getting so that non-tank players can have a tank in their group.
Another think about the gunblade job that has me curious is the name. No actual job uses gunblade as a main weapon. So what will it be? Soldier seems most likely, but commando could also work. Since it is Thancred representing the job, and he likes to go all sneaky, maybe even agent. He is the sneaky womanizer. Or fancies himself one at least.
Its a tank. My question is what will they call it.
But if it is a dps class........ then that means the other job is also a dps class which means................ absolute chaos from the tank and healer communities.
FFVIII: Squall used his with two hands, Seifer with one hand.
XIII: Lightning used hers with one hand.
XIV: Gauis/Regula/Fordola/random Garlean commanders use their's with one hand.
Thancred: Shown pulling out a gunblade about the size of a PLD weapon, which is one-handed.
In Dissidia Squall also uses his gunblade with one-hand quite a bit.
You might be JUST a bit off-base about gunblades always being two-handed.
I do too but at the same time I’ll feel bad for tank mains if it ends up being a DPS class.
+1 about Gunblade as dps class. I can understand the desire to have another tank in their roster but... Well, i still remember the punch in the gut when SE made DRK a tank, it was not a pleasant feeling.
Man, I'm really starting to see why people have such a problem with them adding so many DPS classes. I main tank but I've been wanting to level MNK and RDM...I know remember why I began playing tank to begin with...because the damn queue times are horrendous.
At first, I'm like regardless of what class they add queue times are going to suck but even after cross-world party implementation and clusters which I thought would help, it's still 15-20 minute wait times for certain dungeons and roulettes when you're playing a DPS because a large percentage of people either enjoy playing DPS classes, hate tanking or enjoy the appeal of the DPS classes alot more than the tanks. (There is a lot more variety in DPS classes)
I don't care if the Gunblade class (which I'm calling a SeeD for now) is a tank. I really hope it gives people a reason to try tanking.
I have my tanks at lvl 70 and I can honestly say I can't stand tanking. I hate leading the party, hate worrying about trying to keep hate on everything while still trying to DPS as much as possible. It's very tension building. I like focusing on my rotation and avoiding aoe markers. That said if Gunblade is a tank I won't be that disappointed. I'll still level it at some point but I wont main it like I would have if it was a DPS.
I'm definitely inclined to agree, but they did say there would be "multiple" jobs. Technically that means "more than one" but considering they said that BLU isn't part of the 5.0 lineup I also believe that there's another dps job coming along with a healer and tank. Don't get me wrong, I will be maining the Gunblade job regardless of whether it's a dps or a tank. I've been waiting since 2.0 dropped when it was mentioned that such a job would be a possibility once we got closer to Garlemald. FF VIII is also my favorite game of the series with Squall being my favorite character. Hoping for a dps though, but it's more than likely going to be a tank.
I think that's the thing that makes tanking so appealing to me. For me, the most important thing about tanking is keeping your party alive so I'll put postioning and cooldowns over concerning myself with DPS. From what I understand, the whole DPS thing comes from the raiding scene which I don't do so I could care less about the kind of meta those most people cocern themselves so much with. I do like big numbers but as long as I'm doing my job as a tank, I'm alright. The rotations are some of the easiest in the game in my opinion...I think DPS and Healer roles are much more difficult.
Tanking is a breeze, pull things, hold aggro, use cool downs (the healer will love you) and let the DPS kill shit.
Haha. I tend to have more respect for tanks and healers than DPS since I hate playing those jobs. Healers over Tanks of course lol.
yea i miss counted for tanks, also someone said what i see which is ninjas using daggers, while some are short swords i still see it as more a dagger class, and RDM i know its meant to be a rapier but its more a staff then a sword, that's mainly with what i meant by proper sword class, (tho i will admit i did blank on Samurai )
do in my correction if gun is a tank then we would have 3 sword tanks and technically two dps
either way i would still love Gunblade to be a DPS class,
My idea is that they might make dark knight on par with PLD and hopefully, add gunblade and make it fight for OT position. Cause if it is another freaking DPS, it'll just be a wasted slot and make the DPS queue/life even worse than before. I love tanking, i think its fun and engaging, but if gunblade turns out to be a DumPS, i might just ditch tanking for it.
Big fan of FF8 here and the more i see the gunblade in the trailer, the more i think it'll be a DumPS and it might play like Red Mage/MCH where after a certain point, you'll add the Shot of the blade to your attacks to deal extra damage or even keep a heat level % like MCH to make extra dmg and then unleash THE LIMIT BREAK RENZOKUKEN INTO LIONHEART! SHWING SHWING SHWING SHWING SHWING SHWING SHWING SHWING PZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ PRRRRROOOOOOUWWWWWWWWWWWWW
DPS or Tank it's ok with but... I wish it's a Tank Job just for be Tank ^^
Bizzaro world dancer is tank gun blade is healer and blue mage can do content
I seriously hope dancer becomes a dps not a healer. But knowing my luck dancer might become a future limited job.
Hopefully It's a tank, now It's tanks and healers turn to get new jobs and dps turn to wait.
I’m hoping it’ll be a Tank myself. Granted, I’m very often always Tanking and Healing runs for various reasons beyond “faster cue times”. And thanks to how accurate the leaks have been so far, I have reason to believe it WILL be our next Tank. Honestly, I was hoping BLU would be our next Tank for the sake of a colored mage in every role... but we all saw what happened to BLU. (Something of which I have very mixed feelings on, so I’m on the edge on how to feel about BLU being “limited”) So at this point, I’m pinning my hopes on the Magiteck Knight. (Placeholder name for me, until the developers finally announce it)
And since I saw it mentioned... I’m still praying with everything I have that DNC will show up as a healer. It’s the only job left that I REALLY want to see added in a specific role.
Please SE. ;-;
If the Gunblade job does wind up not being a tank for some reason, Highly Doubtful, what gear would it use? I'm think a Gunblade user would share gear with Ninja.
