I'm wondering if that wasn't them showing off BLU, since it looks like a lot of the different BLU skills will mimic skills from other classes. I could be wrong, though.
That's definitely not a Blue Mage, is the Warrior of Light changing jobs on the fly which would be a really awesome feature if it was implemented!...
It could be limited to a handful of jobs like Shang Tsung's morphs in Mortal Kombat Trilogy, though that was optional in order to avoid loading times but otherwise is possible to change to all characters during combat and BLU could change to any job at will during combat!...
If this was a system, it would mean boss fights will be a lot more phase based, and there wont be any "dedicated role" anymore.
What I mean is that you wuld likely swap from one roll to another depending a part of the fight. So if its Destroy this Crystal, or Boss doesnt have an aggro table and attacks randomly, you would swap to a class that is DPS from lets say Tank or Healer. Or The boss might have tons of Tank busters, so now you need DPS to swap to tank and take over when teh Initial tanks run out of Cooldowns. Itd be an interesting system, but also know that would be extremely hard to balance and likely a s-show to implement. Not to mention, that means either dumbing down the classes even more, or requiring everyone to essentially level all their alt calsses to max, gear them to max, and then expect them to all be played at nearly the same level to do any end game content.
That would be a nightmare for a lot of people.
But as of now.
I'll say it certainly doesn't feel like a possibility of 0% to happen.
And not all jobs. Mains would definitely be more dynamic though.
Eg. Tanks would probably switch to 1 or 2 DPS classes while in OT state, then back to tank to Provoke and MT.
If they don't simplify at all... I'm drooling at the idea of playing like this. I've always loved dynamic play like this. (eg. Haseo from .hack//G.U.)
We should get switch jobs in combat like of like FF13 where you can switch jobs on the fly.
Hopefully not, that was worst feature from FFXIII and one of the reasons i stopped it midway. Constant switching was super boring
You were able to switch weapons and classes freely during combat in XIV 1.0.
But I don't think the video means jobs will be job switching. Derplander is just a male representation of the WoL. The video shows multiple jobs failing fighting that giant angelic type being. Then the being seems to taint derplander when they pierces him with the sword. They bring the shadow out of derplander.
So Shadowbringers is most likely a group of foes that infects WoL with darkness.
Kinda feels like people are reading too much into this. The trailers have always had the warrior of light changing jobs in the trailer. This kinda looked like he was being stripped of his skills and being knocked back to his ARR status as a warrior to me. Possibly just symbolism for a story point.
Also arbert, the warrior of darkness was a warrior as well. Seems foreshadowing of our need to follow in the footsteps of the warrior of darkness.
Oh yes, the Paradigm System is overkill!...
I doubt it would break everyone's jobs because it's limited to like six slots and each slot can be one job so six jobs total to choose from in the middle of combat, the possibilities are immense!...
I agree it's on another level of gaming but it doesn't mean you have to level up all jobs, just the six you want to use, the game would become insanely fun!...
That was how I interpreted it as well. Especially since each class that he switched to had thematic value from ARR and the previous expansions. I don't think this is an actual gameplay mode so much as them thematically stripping everything the WoL has done up until this point as meaningless in a funky visual metaphor.
It be cool to say set like 3 jobs you can swap between on the fly.
I think it could happen, just gotta see how htey implement it. It sounds cool on paper, but in practice...Hoo boy.
IF anything, I would imagine it would operate like this:
You get to select one class PER role. So One tank, 1 Healer/Support, and 1 DPS.
This would help limit some of the issues I mentioned. You wouldnt need to gear every class, and youd operate more knowing certain classes over others. It would give greater flexibility to Tanks adn Healers play wise, since there are vastly more DPS classes than Healers. It would also deal with restricting overlapping cooldowns. For example, you dont want to be able to swap to DRK, then LD, then go to PLD, then HG, then go to War and Holm. But also dont want to create a situation of allowing players to do that but restrict what skills they can use cause that would defeat the purpose of the class swap system.
But thats just speculation on my part.
Is this a real thing annonced or something like that ?
In the trailer its just a scenario effect for the character, his axe from ARR trailer break, so do his lance from HW and his katana from SB don't do better so he switch to shadowy weapon as a symbol of his WoL time breaking appart and having to go WoD to fight this treat of no mesure.
It's speculation at this point based on the visual metaphor being provided in the trailer. Until the live letter section comes out it's little more than wishful thinking. Which, mind, isn't a bad thing. Just that visual metaphors like that are pretty common place without having any gameplay feature behind them.
Yeah, its what I was thinking.
But still, count me hyped by this trailer on a story wise point of view (the paradigm system would probably make me sight so hard my lung would break). The content don't hype me at all, but this trailer do the work just fine, I'm so eager to see where this is going and how we'll get there.
I really just think it was showing the progression of the WoL from 1.0 to 5.0. As in, just a trailer, and not a demonstration of a new system.
As much as I don't want to be the person to reign in peoples hopes and expectations, but I think you may be reading into this a bit much.
Don't get me wrong, it sounds interesting in thought, but putting this to paper and practice would become a balancing nightmare, both for the Devs and the player.
I think it's not a new system at all. It seems more like the trailer is just swapping through the jobs Derplander has had so far, starting with the old school archer, and going thru them all in order, and watching as each one is getting defeated.
This is probably to drive the helplessness home, showing that his current abilities and skills just aren't enough, so a new power was needed. Some say the Warrior of Light now needs to be a Warrior of Darkness now, but to me..
I think this will be a Dark Knight expansion.
So we have had Derplander being Archer in 1.0, WAR for ARR, DRG for Heavensward, and a SAM for Stormblood. Now, it's DRKs turn.
I think such feature would over-complexify the way encounters would be designed... And would end in a sort of clunky sytem. It's one of the things that on theory sounds amazing but in practice is bound to fail. At least is how it feels to me.
I wouldn't read into that a lot. It was probably just a symbolic thing, especially because it only showed jobs that the derplander was a posterboy for. Well, except the DRK, but then it makes sense for it to change into that at this time.
No the trailer literally screams DRK buff and rework for 5.0
Is it a dark knight or the gunblade job at the end?
They are Just Highlighting what was the main jobs of ever expansion at least that's the way it appeared to me
He changes jobs because his bow broke, then his axe broke, then his spear broke, then his knuckles broke. Didnt look like his sword did, but getting stomped had to hurt.
It's not a new feature, it's a trailer theme.
I feel that was just cinematic fluff and not actually something we're getting...but who knows!
I feel like that was just for aesthetic.
but then again...
