The whale mount is up on Mogstation

I kind of wish it was a reward from the last survey of submersibles, like the Bennu was for airships.

I kind of wish the Whale mount wasn't a whale.

Everyone should buy this mount so SE can invest the profits back into FFXIV.

So we don't get any new glamour gear for All Saints Wake and now none on the MogStation. The apocalypse is starting....

I'm not going to knock it, but that whale is awesome...

So they put a $30 mount on the Mogstation and yet their archaic servers can't even keep the game online for over a month and every event this year has been garbage with mediocre rewards? How the hell are their priorities so messed up.

Someone had it out in Rhalgar's Reach. I thought it was Cetacea from Dragon Quest XI. Kind of disappointed it wasn't.

Annnnnnnnd once again they miss a great opportunity of putting an actual interessting reward in the game. FC submersible rarest reward ? lol nope. Incredible fisher reward for lets say, completing the full fishing log or fishing every fish in HQ at least once ? ahahahahahah Nope.

Why adding a mount requiring to actualy play the game when you can grab so much cash by just adding it to the mogstation, who care about lack of interest between patch when you can just get insta-cash.

Well, at least its not another eureka reward I'll never get to see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

$30 and it doesn't even have a unique song? Lol.

Was this supposed to be a 6 person mount? Feels like there should be at least one seat available for each of those chests, especially on such a large mount. A rather on the nose mogstation item.

Couldn't have made this an actual in-game reward via the useless submarines or the achievement point vendor. Nope. Gotta get that cash money on top of the base purchase, expansion purchases, subscription, retainer subscriptions and phone app subscription and yet the game's servers still can't go a day without something going wrong. After all there's no reason to have something that rewards people for playing the game when you can just reward people for finding their credit card again and again.

They should play this when you mount it.

I think this was the one originally designed for the Chinese shop, so I don't mind it being in the Mog Station. It's a little underwhaleming so I'll wait for it to go on sale.

I was pretty sure that's where it would be from when it was first datamined. Disappointing but not surprising that it's cash shop.

I KNOW RIGHT?! How dare a company in China develop a mount for FF14 and implement it on their servers months ago and then, ON TOP OF THAT, SE has the freaking nerve to license it and make it available to the rest of the playerbase! Especially when they KNEW that they were going to be DDoSed weeks or even months after putting this in motion! The gall of them! You should just unsub right now, that'll show them. :mad:

IIRC the Chinese and Korean publishers pay SE to make extra stuff for their cash shop.

A company in China didn't make it, SE made it, the Chinese company paid them to make it for them.

Can I at least beach this whale on the shores of Costa del Sol and RP an Eorzean activist looking into the suspicious deaths of beached whales, only to find myself mired deep into a conspiracy created by the Monetarists, who promptly try to have me silenced only to be given a bridal rescue by none other than Hildibrand?

Pretty much why I knew from the get-go it'd be mogstation. I don't think they've ever released any of the Koren/Chinese developed stuff as in-game rewards, but I might be wrong. It's a simple case of parity between versions. The other regions had to pay for it on cash shop, so naturally we will too.

It's very interesting. A lot of the people who complain about Mog Station mounts not being available in-game do not appear to be mount collectors to any significant degree if one takes a peek at their character's lodestone profile.

Yeah keep shilling for horrible service and a company that is hell bent on wringing each and every dollar out of you. It's 2018, you don't need precognition to know DDOS is a thing. Even without DDOSing the game's servers are far below average and despite being increasingly nickel and dimed for microtransactions none of those proceeds have gone back into the game. Despite 5 years after 2.0 it still feels like we're playing an mmo from the mid 2000's.

Which, to be fair, makes sense. Not to mention, Eastern Countries are much more accepting of things like this. In fact, not having a decked out Cash Shop is pretty much a death sentence in Korean.

True, I don't because I can't.

I can't put 30 bucks in a cash shop mount, I can't bring myself to play PvP nor I have enough gold chocobo feather... So why should I bother start a collection I can't complete. But then again, I'd love to get a reward incencitive enought for me to go fishing or motivate my unsubscibing FC to put together a submarine and get some nice mount out of our spiderweb and dust covered FC house.

It's not shilling, it's correcting misinformation. The recent disconnects have literally nothing to do with the servers. We could have WoW's servers and they would still go down. I'll agree the servers are trash, but that wasn't your argument. You specifically blamed the recent outages on the servers which simply isn't the case.

As for nickel and diming. How? How are they doing this? If I elect not to purchase it, which is likely the case since I don't really care enough about it to spend $40 (Canadian), I'm not losing out on anything. And technically the Mogstation is the only aspect of revenue that does go back into FFXIV. It paid for the Chaos datacenter. It's our sub that gets deferred to other projects. At the end of the day, it's just another mount in a sea of them. If you don't want to spend money on it for whatever reason, do what I've opted to do and not buy it.

I think the whale is really cute ^_^

Would it make any practical difference to the end product if it was the sub being spent on Chaos datacentre and the mogstation funding FFXV DLC? Not that I can see.

Statements from SE about cash shop proceedings being spent directly on FFXIV are just a trick to help people justify extra purchases.

The Mog Station is actually pretty reasonable when you look at the sort of tactics and products deployed by rival MMO's and other multiplayer games. At the end of the day, the offerings are largely limited to luxury products and are marketed as such. There's also no shortage of people willing to throw money at a game that they enjoy - shaming those individuals is foolish given that they are free to do whatever they like with their cash. It also reeks of jealousy.

You don't need to be a mount collector to want certain mounts. I don't really care for most of the primal mounts myself, but I'd actually use a lot of the cash shop ones. I might even give in and buy them if they were a decent price for something that just a new model that's already on my computer and just has a digit in a database changed so my character can use it.

My biggest issue with the whale is that it seems pretty clearly designed to be a 4- or even 8-person mount. It is remarkably huge. Devs have even stated that they could create a 4-person mount. But it seems somewhere along the way someone axed that idea and knocked it back down to 2-person.

If this could carry 8 people it would be an instant-buy from me. I'd love something big to carry folks around on while doing maps or other random content.

Yes, I'm sad it doesn't incentivize submarines or fishing or any actual in-game content, but coming from the Chinese/Korean servers I didn't really expect it to. Maybe one day submarines will have a purpose, but today is not that day.

But sure lets have no new costume for the halloween like event and lets not give any compensation for all the time that the servers were down the last few weeks...just put another expensive mount behind the cash shop. (And some housing walls, that people could lose if they take a long break..) People want more to do but lets put mounts behind a paywall instead as a incentive in the game..

Alright, but what rival MMOs are you talking about? And to be more specific : what rival MMOs with a monthly subscription?
If I look at the other MMOs with a sub, I'm not quite sure we can describe FFXIV as reasonable.

One could argue the Star Wars mmo, since they have a sub option and still encurage you to buy things from the cash shop. Heck, it's the only way to get a mount that I could ever find.

WoW charges a much higher price for basic services such as name changes and race changes than FFXIV does. You also can't play every class on a single character like you can in FFXIV so if you have multiple characters that you wish to shift over to a different faction/server then you're set back by quite a bit.

Other MMO's launched with a subscription fee initially but then dropped it in favour of being F2P - but typically made it appealing to subscribe to an optional fee in exchange for advantageous in-game bonuses. I believe ESO does that? I haven't played that since launch, admittedly.

There's also no need to whine about this every time SE sells something new, but people do. This is optional content at an extra cost. Very few of the designs have ever struck me as markedly better than anything you can obtain in-game, and what does is usually NPC clothing that most MMOs would never provide you with, anyway. There is nothing condescending in pointing out that some of the people complaining are simply doing so for the sake of it.

WoW is a glaring example.

In the end, it's like any other consumer product - don't like the price, move on. To an extent, feedback assists in fine-tuning their product offering, but what's "reasonable" with respect to consumer decisions is very subjective to that consumer. And besides, most of these things are steeply discounted if you just wait a while. So I really cannot see the issue.

I was looking forward to a 4-people mount if not 8, too bad this whale can't do that despite having all the space necessary, it would probably break the game and the servers to enable more riding slots on it!...


I'll think about getting it since I like the model, if only it glowed ... ... ... sighs!...
