So... I've no clue what the next job/race will be...
what do you all think?
Think someone commented how Lupin might be one but doubtful even if it be totally cool and worth a alt slot for me. I will even buy boosts for it. The races are way too human looking in this game that there is no real variety.
Blue Mage for 4.5, Soldier and Dancer for 5.0.
Viera as next race.
^ What this guy said; must keep the Viera hype going. That and I'm hoping for a Dancer and Blue Mage Combo Job. :D
Mime and Moogle
Bangaa and Templar
ronso and beast tamer >:V just to be different
If we get a new race - something I dont really expect before we reach the New World for simple lore-reasons (where have they been this whole time?!) - it wont be anything truely beast-like for gear-reasons (I'm pretty sure they said as much). That means Lupin, Moogles, Banga and Ronso are pretty much out; Viera will have their feet altered, to fit our normal shoes.
I have this weird, completely idle speculation that we'll be getting Blue Mage, Dancer and a Gunblade job, and that SE has heard the demand and will add Viera, but will also add a lion race.
I'd expect two jobs, being a tank and healer.
Healer potential comes with at least three options: Dancer just because it's now possibly the most demanded job in the game, Chemist or something incorporating it due to a "mix" of player demand and easy potential lore tie-in and Oracle due to Yoshi's previous mentions of it being intended as a third job for Stormblood (which means resources for it may already be there). Tank choice leaves a higher potential to fulfill Yoshi's stated desire of having new jobs exclusive to FFXIV, where we may see something that may seem on some level like a more familiar job redesigned to fit how the game functions. If there is a chance for a third job in 5.0, it was severely diminished with the overall lack of content provided in Stormblood compared to Heavensward.
As for new race, I don't think it'll happen for a long time unless it's another case like au'ra of taking models from other races. My main question to the viera fans would be wondering how butchered would vieras have to be before they'd be considered unacceptable since that's probably what would happen given past issues involving character models.
Nu Mou and Chemist healer
Padjal, Viera or Garlean.
Blue mage, Dancer, Gunblade job
I'd probably be willing to put money on Blue Mage/Dancer/Whatever gunblade user will be called for classes and Viera for new race after that leak called everything else that it did.
Going by the leaks, we're to expect:
- Blue Mage (Support Melee DPS) in 4.5
- Solider/Gun Blader (tank) and Dancer (Healer) in 5.0
- Viera
- Ronso
Given the person has been nearly 100% accurate, I'm inclined to believe this may turn out true. Still a little iffy on two races though, but three jobs I can easily see. Unlike Heavensward, there wasn't a fourth job (Ninja) in development prior. Furthermore, I suspect they want to have a DPS in each expansion release due to how popular the role is overall, however they can't go another expansion without a tank or healer. This seems the best solution.
Going by leaks, it said two new races, one of which wasn't being told due to story spoilers. That makes me wonder if that story spoiler race isn't Garlean. We're apparently heading into Garlemald; it makes sense to me in the least.
Blue mage, dancer, and literally anything except Viera. Honestly I'd rather they just come up with a new race than recycling an old one.
The biggest issue with Garleans is they cannot use magic. That would be a problem lorewise in a game where everyone can play any job. The inability to use magic was the driving force for Garleans to develop Magitek, and their early national story that they were victims of every other race until they became stronger and started conquering.
Personally, I want to see Viking as a tank job. The game needs more shield using jobs, and more blunt weapon jobs, and Vikings in their rare appearances use hammer and shields.
There's a number of options but Blue Mage DPS (Watch Alphinaud expecially since Alisae is RDM), Dancer (Healer from FFXI experience + Thavnarian influence would match its backround) and what people call "Soldier" (Personally Magitek Knight would be more fitting to this games lore + NotGaius is pretty much tanky type). Could also be Geomancer as a healer since some lore already exists for it though design wise it would have to be different enough to distinguish it from WHM/CNJ.
As for race's obviously Viera is the front runner right now since it's the most human like though we could have a wild card yet. Ronso while a possibility would be less likely since they would possibly be asthetically close to the Miquote. Could also be a complete unique race like the Au Ra too.
A while ago, I had read something that implied the area that Garlemald rests has little to no aether, resulting in extreme weather severity and shifts. For all that we know, the true reason they can't use magic is because of the area they call home and never learned to harness it. That, or the magic they possess is simply too different (as it is, we have seen Ascians wield magic both familiar and unfamiliar to our heroes). Least we forget, Garleans didn't develop magitek so much as they stole knowledge of it in lost information of Allag, even while magitek is the combination of magic and machinery. Curiously, the Garleans lacked magitek until Solus (1513 of the sixth astral era) and discovery of ceruleum (which is just draining the aether from a crystal - unaspected crystals are supposedly the product of crystals that have had their aether drained).
The Burn is supposed to be devoid of aether, yet we can spellcast, as well as saw those Ascian Hunters casting there as well. There's still a few patches for story to develop that could potentially address this (or the expansion itself if Garleans were to be one of the two races) to still render this plausible. As it were, I'd have never predicted Garleans to recreate and place the echo into others as it were, which is what we've seen here in Stormblood. Or able to extract our souls from our body.
I'm hoping for the Ivalice Moogles because it's an ambitious and creative choice for a new race, just as Blue Mage would be as a class job. I would actually get really excited at starting an alt as a moogle, just to see how different the experience would be as one since I've never really had the chance since Tactics Advance to play as one.

That said, given how lazy some of the new content has been, I get the distinct impression it's just going to be Viera cause that's the easiest to implement (just add rabbit ears!), and Soldier/Commando will be the new job because that'll take the least effort (cause gunblades and their emotes are clearly already assets in the game). Though I'll admit being able to play as Lightning job with a gunblade would be somewhat interesting, but my hype for it is low.

I'd really rather they update the existing race options rather than add a new Hyur with <insert animal ears here> slapped on... Like they could literally add a new tail and ear slot for equipment and that'd be just as good as any new race IMO, potentially better even... You can be a hulk with cat features or a potato with cat features, that's better than the current Miqote option IMO... You could have rabbit ears and a lizard tail to be some freakish hybrid... Can do so much more with that than just a static "Here's Viera" addition...
As for Jobs... I'm hoping for 3 DPS in all honesty, just to flesh out the existing gear sets... Right now we have 3 mages all sharing casting sets, 1 on scouting set, 2 on aiming set, 2 on striking an 1 on maiming... I expect Blue Mage to mirror Red Mage, and move both of them over to a new "Fencing" set of INT gear (so 2 on that, 2 on the old casting). Dancer to go on scouting with Ninja, and something to go on maiming with Dragoon. That way there's be 2 jobs per DPS set and my OCD can be satisfied. I very much doubt that'll happen, but one can dream...
I'd really like Beastmaster too though, for similar reasons... Right now we have healer/tank/melee/caster/ranged, and 3 pet jobs spread out across those roles (Scholar for healer, Summoner for caster, Machinist (lol) for ranged), so we need a tank and melee pet class IMO. Beastmaster I think could work for either honestly, just have the pet play support rather than direct tank if it's a tank, perhaps with cover-style skills to help mitigate. Yoshida doesn't seem to like pet jobs though, shame. Wouldn't mind seeing Hellfire Frog being expanded and adjusted on Ninja to call it a pet job in the same sense Machinist is in all honesty, but given how progress on Egi-Glamours has seemingly completely halted I won't hold my breath on a system where you can slap an item in your offhand slot that determines what pet you summon...
I would only be ok with viera if they didn't make them look like rabbit miqo'te.
I see dancer being a healer. Similar to ninja's mudras it would have dance steps, and it fights in melee with kicks and flips. But that's just me.
Only issue with Dancer as a healer that melees for damage would be certain mechanics that specifically target healers under the assumption that they have no need to go in close (something like Ifrit Extremes Searing Wind). I could see it going for physical ranged damage, though, with a weapon like a War Hoop that you throw. Of course SE could just adjust such mechanics to check and target ranged based Jobs first, with Dancer not counting as a ranged based Job, but thinking on it, War Hoop makes for a nice unique weapon IMO. Would be nice to have a healer that uses some TP though, I'm still bummed that Scholar wasn't a field-medic style Job coming off Musketeer back when people still expected Musketeer to get added pre-2.0.
For races I want something that shakes up the norm. All the races(excluding Lalafel) have the common dimorphism between male and female. Males are larger and more muscular while the females tend to be more petite and frail. Au'Ra is the poster child of this, but it can be seen across the rest of the races(Again, Excluding Lalafel) to a lesser degree. I want a race that flips it; Petite and frail males with large and intimidating females.
Ideally I wish for something fox-oriented like a kitsune or some other spin-off of it.
For jobs, we're lacking a ranged physical. 3 tanks, 3 healers, 4 melee, 3 casters, and 2 ranged. Not entirely sure where they could go for it since bows and guns are really the big two. They could get creative and use more obscure ones like boomerangs or bolas. They could also get creative with traditionally long weapons like some whips, blow/dartguns, and the old wrecking ball and chain.
Otherwise it could be a tank, healer, or caster.
Tank - Blue Mage/Mime/Copycat/Whatever you wanna call it, Magitek Knight, or dancer(they attract crowds remember?)
Healer - Geomancer, Oracle, or chemist
Caster - Who knows.
Following with what I wished for with the race, the caster would fall in line with that theme. Some kind of Yokai, or something along the lines of exorcist or so.
Where are you getting that information from?
The lorebook (in the page on Garlean history) describes ceruleum as a "natural resource", a deep-blue liquid that burns like oil, and I don't think it's been elaborated on beyond that. (We also see natural vents of it in the lowest levels of Cutter's Cry.) It seems intended to be fantasy-petroleum. Admittedly that doesn't disprove it being aetherially charged petroleum or something, but generally when crystals are used as 'aether batteries' they seem to dissolve entirely upon use.
For job predictions, I'm going to say dancer sharing Scouting gear with ninja. Even if it's a healer.
I'm not sure of how previous lore for dancer has them casting spells, but it seems logical to me that if it involves making particular movements (in the same vein as ninja's mudra) then dexterity is the stat that will give them that ability to perform well. In contrast to other healers that need less physical, more mental effort to channel their particular magicks, thus benefiting from the Mind stat.
Also if they've been planning it for a while, the Scouting gear seems to be setting up for it. There are things like the Ghost Barque Himation (shared model with mages' Star Velvet sets) that seem an odd choice for ninja, but would work great for dancer when it hypothetically becomes a future user of those sets. (And there are a few themed sets where Caster-and-Ranged and Healer-and-Scout gear share models, rather than the usual split between mage and DPS sets.)
Tidbits from 1.0 lore, sightseeing logs and wikis citing lore Q&As from the staff here on the forums. Supposedly, the blue fog from ceruleum is it being burned away. I'd imagine using a crystal as a battery is different than draining its contents for fuel and why one leaves an empty shell while the other removes crystal and aether entirely. That's not to say there isn't an oil form of ceruleum - but that doesn't mean it can't crystallize (given the little bits of information we've been presented - Mor Dhona is polluted with ceruleum both in water, air and land). Especially since aether is the power source in Hydaelyn.
This as well as Raen's self exile from the rest of the world and the Xaela being locked in perpetual war with one another on the Steppe (not really, but every tribes' livelihood very much centers around the Steppe). I'd imagine those that did trickle in were tired, or banished, of these previous lives and traditions.
I notice a lot of people talking about what gear new jobs would use. I just want to add I hope they scrap maiming and aiming sets going forward, roll the previous designs into fending/striking and scouting.
5 "roles", 5 sets. Fending, Striking, Scouting, Casting, Healing.
Also feels like a fairer split too, instead of some sets covering 1 job (Hi NIN and DRG) each set would cover 3 or 4 jobs.
