I have been playing Samurai so long I hardly even notice the sound anymore. So I would say it doesn't bother me. It just lets people know i'm potentially going to pull out a fat midare direct crit.
It has bugged me since the beginning, to the point where I dislike playing SAM and I tried to use the attack as little as possible. It's just a super sharp noise that genuinely hurts my ears. :/
Is it the Midare Setusga noise? It's super annoying. Meanwhile, cool sounds have been removed: the original Fell Cleave's chainsaw sound and the Meditation sound (revving).
Yes the Midare Setusga noise. I normally can deal with how loud most abilities are but that sound is so annoying that by the time I got my sam to 60 I was glad I was going to be taking a break from playing it.
I honestly barely find time to notice it among the mass of other spells/weaponskills/abilities being cast every second.

As for the SAM wind up noise, it can stay or go, I don't play or care for SAM.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. What *did* bother me was monk's original Chakra build-up noise. Fortunately they fixed that but good lord it was grating.
I never noticed cause it gets jumbled along all the other skill noises from other party members.
Plus it'll never be annoying as the miqote screech
Sometimes it catches me off guard if my volume is higher, but it's usually compounded by the million other sounds blaring out of my monitor. Other than that it's background noise. Had a couple friends who noticed it right away though back at the beginning of SB and didn't care for it.
I don't think any of the battle sounds have ever bothered me, but character voices (in battle) have, especially my own. Everything will be going fine until there's a moment of quiet and I keep hearing these annoying character sounds...then realize they're coming from my own character. I don't know how many times i have asked people if they can hear my character and if it was annoying to them.
Yeah sometimes depending on your speaker set up or camera angle you'll hear some things but not others. The battle voices are one thing I wish we could try out when doing character customization. Because you can pick a voice you like for the ones they give you and then you go and fight something and then you cringe and go well crap.
I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who needs ear plugs when they're on sam. It's normally fine when it's someone else doing it as it does get dulled out or I'm on my main and not near the action, but when it's me oh man.
It's too high pitched. I agree it's pretty bad. I especially hate it when I get into trial roulette with multiple samurai (especially if it's level synced so you can't convert your sen into kenki)
This... this is a thing? Really? Wha...?
There are many people susceptible to high-pitched sounds. Then there are certain sound types that are particularly nasty. Think about scratching a plate with a fork or a blackboard with nails.
High-pitched sounds cause a certain range of vibrations that can cause damage, hence why people are particularly likely to be susceptible to them. I mean, we're talking about something that can potentially break glass. Humans (eardrums specifically) are far more suited to low-pitched sounds. That's why drums are so popular.
So yes. It is a thing, and not because someone may be "weird". It is a thing for very much medical reasons.
I believe you should annoy the sound of Shinten spamming more than Midare.
It doesn't bother me, in fact, it excites me as I anticipate the juicy >45K critical direct incoming.
I am then immediately let down by the meager 20K result despite having at least 5 damage buffs including a potion, and then infuriated by the auto attack that direct crits immediately after
Not at all, it's cool as shit.
It's not as bad as Holy and Unleash spam.
Not really, then again I have yet to have a 4 SAM roulette, ask me again after. Take it over Unleash, and this comes from someone who likes DRK.
It's more of the pitch than the sound it's self. I think for one of the moves it's slightly muted so it's not as bad. In sam heavy groups it can make you not want to do your best. I get what they were going for but for me and it looks like a few others it's so loud and sharp that over time you want to grit your teeth or something.
Then you did not read the "lecture" fully.
Humans bodies are managed by instincts that fully believe in "better to prevent than to cure". That's why things that suggest threat, can be considered a threat already. That's why we find disgust in certain things, that's why we feel pain even if there's nothing actually wrong with us...and that's why we are annoyed by sounds that are not "there" yet to cause us harm. This sensitivity different from person to person, but it ultimately stems from self-preservation in ALL of the cases.
PS: Damaging your hearing is way easier than you would think. It doesn't need to be that loud, nor does it need to even be felt. "Right" frequency of vibrations (sound being vibrations and their pitch being the frequency) can cause damage even at low volumes, without the person even knowing.
OK, back on topic... no the sound does not bother me.
It's high pitched and I have sensitive ears. However, I never have the game's sound effects up loud enough to actually bother me.
