Still no more Egi glamours

I'm not even a SMN or SCH player but with all the special attention a certain musician has been getting, it's starting to feel a little unfair.

They really should implement a full set of carbuncle egi glamours and have faerie glamours to go with them.

Topaz (titan)
Emerald (garuda)
Ruby (ifrit)
Moonstone (eos)
Obsidian (selene)

They should be simple, they assets are already in the game.
Then, to complete the classic summoner set, the other three core summons as egis:
Shiva
Leviathan
Ramuh
And why not another faerie glamour in the form of a tiny glowing Moogle?

Agreed. FFXIV's summoner doesn't even feel like a summoner really with only 3 "mini" summons. The class itself could use a complete redesign to focus more on pet abilities instead of casting Bio and Miasma, which makes no sense compared to the other summoners of FF which are usually white mages. A long time ago when I got the message that I couldn't get any more egi's because I had reached the limits of my aether, I stopped playing summoner. Scholar is still good though, and could use some extra fairie designs.

It's been asked several times and at this point if any new egi glamours are expected to be added, then mostly likely they would come with the next expac. I say this because looking at how Demi Bahamut was added, who knows what what the big plan is for Pets moving forward, and the glamour of them may just not be a priority if we get to summon more demi-style types in the future so who knows.

Rydia disagrees with this, she had access to Black Magic but could also Summon. Dagger was a Summoner first then a WHM and actually had more debuff/ailment type spells than Eiko (who was the main focused WHM of the game, the healing/support spells reflected that).

Why anyone would play a summoner to be able to cast debuffs is beyond me. I don't even remember the ailment spells from 9 because in that game they weren't very useful. I feel as if though someone looked at the Affliction warlocks from WoW and copied that into FFXIV with this pseudosummoner who's only 2 real summons are carbuncle and Demi Bahamut, with the rest of the focus being on debuffs. Even the warlocks had more pets than FFXIV summoners, with complete models. This concept might have worked ok with scholar since their whole storyline is about diseases, but it feels completely out of place with summoner. The egis look ridiculous and feel more like calling the elemental spirits from FFXI. Now, if we were able to get the Demi versions of the rest of the summons I might give summoner in FFXIV another chance, but having only 2 doesn't make me feel like a real summoner.

I think you are taking it a little too literal, technically Yuna wasn't fully focused on White Magic she was a Summoner first and foremost. She could actually learn anything through the Sphere Grid so if you wanted a BLM or Warrior Summoner, that's something you could do. If I remember correctly the FFXI SMN could do a bit of everything, with access to damage, healer and support Summon actions. I don't know what Luna is...

Luna is the oracle/closest thing to a dedicated summoner in FFXV that also was able to use white magic. Now I don't think FFXIV's summoner should use white magic, but be focused on pet actions geared towards dps and some support abilities. Instead of copying warlocks and making summoner a dot class, we should have gotten Carbuncle, Demi-Ifrit/Garuda/Titan/etc with more control over their actions.

I suppose it’s possible they could implement some sort of ‘upgrade’ mechanic, that either permanently upgrades your egis via a job quest, like how carbuncles were upgraded to egi’s to begin with (and provide the three original egi’s as the glamour options) or a job mechanic that allows you to temporarily summon a stronger egi in their place. I imagine; Garuda > Ramuh, Ifrit > Shiva, Titan > Leviathan.
But that seems like quite a lot, at least in comparison with just adding glamours.

If they did do a whole job rework, simplifying summoning and making it more of a burst mechanic than a pet mechanic, using them more like MCH turrets (out for ~30 seconds then “hypercharge” before withdrawing) then there could be more call for actually including all six as proper egi’s with their own moves.
Maybe they’d still follow the same trio of ranged/melee/tank, but in two different tiers, e.g. Ifrit has a 30s cooldown, is out for 60s, and has a 10s supercharge where he deals +50% damage, while Shiva deals 20% more damage than Ifrit anyway, has a 90s cooldown, is out for 30s and has a 10s supercharge where she deals +100% damage.

But failing that, glamours.

Other options could be:
Ravana (Ifrit)
Bismarck (Garuda)
Alexander (Titan)

Moogles (orange and purple poms for Eos and Selene)

Lakshmi (Eos)
Tsukuyomi (Selene)

Also, the whole 'summoners use white magic' thing is purely a product of some final fantasies combining the two jobs together, there's nothing innate about summoning and white magic.
In FFX, Tidus was based around a warrior + time mage, or Khimari was dragoon + blue mage, Yuna was summoner + white mage.

This is mainly out of necessity, as the battle systems improved with each title, white mages and summoners would each have downtime, white mages would have nothing to contribute if everyone was at full health, summoners would merely sit back and cast a powerful aoe spell that either takes ages to charge or drains them of all their mana.
But as already stated, it's not the only solution, as in IV, we had white mage + archer, and summoner + black mage.

Dancer, if we get it, could maybe have unique dances or dance moves.

I’d like MCH to be reworked and have more focus on turrets anyway, but there’s the option for turret glamours I guess. Mini Magitek armours, Mammets or Allagan nodes.
If we got a third, Knight Turret, that was mobile, I’d love to have a Magitek Armour for Rook, a Node for Bishop, and a Mammet for Knight!

I don't think you could use all minions as glamours.
They'd each need attack animations.

Don't they already have one because of Lord of Verminion?

Once upon a time Final Fantasy used to make summoner this magical job that called forth Giant beasts to rain down destruction upon their enemies or heal the wounds of their team members. Summoners have had this iconic role in the Final Fantasy series and have always been one of my favorite jobs. I was so excited when summoner was announced for FFXIV and have played it since it's inception and have watched as it has gone from being a shell of it's former glory to taking baby steps in the right direction. I understand that they don't want summoner to be a Black Mage clone (i.e. glass cannon burst machine), and the dot system definitely makes them different in that sense, however I feel that if they incorporated the primals into the summoners rotation as part of a chain that they could really pull off something more akin to the Summoners of old while still keeping Summoner different enough from Black Mage that it wouldn't feel like a repeat. If they kept the rotation like it is and expanded on it by letting you choose which "trance" to use depending on the situation and have a "trance" chain that you continuously chain together and finish it off with dreadwyrm trance and summon Demi Bahamut. You could have Judgement Trance and harness the power of Ramuh to leave an aoe thunder dot while increasing the parties magic damage, or have a Tidal Trance and dealing aoe burst tidal wave damage while increasing the parties mp. The party buffs could be less impressive than an Astros buffs but you would be able to pick which ones to use. When using each of the trance attacks an image of the corresponding primal shows up behind the summoner ( like Bahamut's head for dreadwyrm trance) and casts it's ability. This would mean the entire job wouldn't need to be overhauled, it would just expand on the base we already have but would incorporate the other primals in a way that would let us feel like we're summoning without having an actual primal called all the time. It may not be perfect but it could be fun and give summoner more of a support utility role than it has now.
