Server Merge Linkshells

Well, if I understand it right, the linkshell with the most active members gets to keep their name?Correct me if I'm wrong.

I do not like this at all, I would much rather them delete all linkshells and have it first come first serve. That way we can all get a fresh start on recruiting(no dead players) . Also it's fair!~ Because, there's an ls I'm in, that was there from the beginning of the game, has very few players in it, I would not like to see it go poof, just because another ls with the same name had one more player. Nor would i wanna misspell it or put xNamex >.>

Your opinion of fair is not the same as everyone else's. A linkshell with 50 members getting its name taken by a 2 person shell just because they got the shell started first doesn't sound "fair" to me at all. The developers will do what they see as being best for the community as a whole, and it's ridiculous to think they can cater to every individual's specific situation.

They said when the servers merge, LSes will be broken.

I thought they changed it, because of the new way they are doing it.

I'll stand corrected if you can point me to the dev post. I have not seen that. That would be completely awesome if true. As the leader of one of the longest running linkshells on fabul, myself, and my members would surely be heartbroken if some jackass stole our name before I could recreate the shell.

Ya, what if the server you merged with had the same name and longivity you did and felt the same way? but only to get beat by one or two players? It really should be first come first serve.

Only for linkshell name purposes then... I hope Selbina and Besaid don't merge.

Yoshida made an update to his original long follow-up post to provide details that were left out in regards to character and retainer name overlap. I've edited the original post and you can also find the updated changes below.

The way I see this going...

People come on, get recruited, never log on, now your linkshell cannot invite new members. Forced to reform.

Are there really that many duplicate Linkshells in this game that this would be an issue?

Probably not, though there will probably be a few. Who knows yours could be one of the few.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot bring myself to care about this. At all.

Seriously, it's not like guilds where players are exclusive and stuck with one tag for the rest of their gaming 'career'. Functionally linkshells are glorified chat rooms.

Who cares who got dibs on PoolParty and Teenchat?

Now that I think about it, I have an even better solution. Linkshell name overlap? Merge the two together!

'You like that linkshell name? so do we! High five!'

Then....the drama begins, but we can deal with that part later.

I imagine only the names inspired by Final Fantasy titles and/or other popular pop culture.

Grand Company related (Maelstrom, Immortal Flames, Order of the Twin Adders, etc.)

Also, if a dev could be like HEY THERE ARE NO DUPLICATE LINKSHELLS OUT THERE, then leave it be.

Seraphim of Mysidia will defeat all other Seraphims.

Well, the two lss I am concerned with have few dups. And both are not big at all, hence my concern.

Fabul's Abaddon should take precedence on their target as long as no one pads their shell.

It is also more obscure than other names, less likely to conflict.

Short of harassment padding, you should be good on Element and 3 Trials.

Not worried about 3 trials, Element though... that's a big one, it's seen 7+ years of FFXI. Active members that partake in the ls are like 5(online people like 15 or so)lol Though there is another ls that I'm associated with that isn't on there, that is around the same as element, though without the 60 dead people.

I would much rather lose Element to someone who got there first, then someone who had a few more active players.

I'm not too worried personally in our situation. I'm aware of a couple other Seraphim shells that exist (one that actually asked us merge into them wayyy back). If there is an issue (due to padding or just bad luck) we've already got a backup plan ;)

That's likely your best plan of attack. A successful LS is more than just a name.

You're in an LS that doesn't show up on FFXIVPro?

Tis' good... and perhaps bad. Good against creepy stalker urges. Bad in that we don't know where the conflicts will be.

You didn't search on Lindblum server.

It's seems pretty big, but haven't really noticed the ls ingame :/

We just look big if you just look at the numbers lol we are really kinda small, good players though.

I considered it looking at the numbers, but I dids a quick lodestone search on at least 13 members to check activity. At present, the other server only has 12 players. If both LSs on new server, yours would be prime for the name at present.
