Light Farming, Sleepy Boys, and Camps

If you've hit cap at Pagos and are going for your 2nd relic you've probably realized that the real grind was never XP or Pagos Crystals, and is the Frosted Protean Crystals.

Contrast to Anemos which has so far been the fastest relic stage for acquiring subsequent relics, even disregarding the NM train, this light farm is leagues worse than the Zodiac or Anima light farm, even pre-nerf.

The main problem, from what I've experienced, and besides the actual Light droprate and quantity itself, is that the most efficient way of gaining Light, from what we currently know, is by killing Frozen Void Dragons.

And that's the problem. The current idea is to chain kill Frozen Void Dragons. Unfortunately, throughout the entire map of Pagos, there's only actually ONE spot where that's feasible. By the Val Guardians and Huwasi.

"But what about the camp on the hill"

No, it doesn't work. The elevation difference makes it difficult for melees and tanks to attack the mob, and there's too much distance to consistently make 30 chains for most players.

We need more Frozen Void Dragons and in greater density. A perfect place to put more dragons is near the Mirrorknights by Hakutaku's spawn, or in the chasm near the Matamatas, or by Louhi's cave. You can even put another dragon by the Sankchinis.

Or, instead of adding more dragons, just increase the light drop rate and quantity. Or even make light guaranteed on a kill from a mob at-or-above level. Which are the easiest solutions and what most players would prefer. 2 hours of chaining Chimeras should give me a bar of light at least, but instead I'm left with half a bar. 2 days of chaining Chimeras, and I only have 3 frosty flakes. The efficiency lost from going to anything besides the sleepy bois makes it not even worth sitting in the instance if you don't get that 1 exact camp.

Supposedly, according to the interview today the optimal way to farm for light hasn't been discovered yet. I'm not sure what it could possible be though.

If it's anything as inane as following that stupid floating crystal I can guarantee most people will be furious. Regardless, if the "optimal" way still hasn't been discovered, then I don't think there *is* an optimal way. Hundreds of thousands of people, and *nobody* happens upon something that is supposed to be intuitive enough to classify the content as a casual grind? That's just bad design.

Or people just follow each other without thinking of things themselves. Out of the hundreds of thousands of people, most likely only 100 are actually out to discover. Others just follow.

And?

It's a major piece of content and the relic is the focus. If it's being denied to the playerbase because they just don't "get it", then that's bad design. Especially if not "getting it" leads players to believe days-long grinds is the intended path, the developer is purposely misleading the playerbase and negatively impacting player perception.

There is no way to twist the light farming into being healthy content.

Oh I never said it wasn't badly designed lol. In fact, it's so bad that I've never even stepped foot in Eureka!

I think it does have something to do with the floating crystals. I killed a lightning elemental mob that was directly underneath it while it was stationary, and I got maximum bright light for it. The elemental didn't mutate or change either btw.

I haven't been able to replicate it though as the timing is a pain, and I think either you need to kill a mob 100% directly underneath while it's moving or wait for it to be stationary.

The flying crystals are client side afaik, so that can't be a thing.

Based on the info gathered this far...this is by far and away the worst light farm. I wasn’t around for ARR relics pre need, though. 8 Anima weapons done before SB arrived and I’d much rather be in the SB equivalent (O1S maybe) spamming away at that than running back and forth between sleepy boi spawns killing then over and over.

Just my two cents, but the un-nerfed Atma step in ARR was by far worse. Took me two months of grinding FATEs to get one of the Atma, while others I got within a day or two. At least here I can get guaranteed light from NMs and mutations/adaptations. And if I get a brilliant? Basically a free crystal on that off-chance.

One theory is to not kill mutated monsters until you have 2 arrows up of drop rate (chain 20+) but that's more trouble than it's worth and carries a high chance to lose the chain.

No, the crystal is likely client side and is almost definitely unrelated to anything. I was using it as an example for the poor design, and how silly whatever the design team has worked out to be the "optimal" light strategy.

I realized this way before when I first hit 25. I saw how minuscule the light gains were from "feeble" and have yet to see anything beyond that. I just hit 35 at the tie of writing and the prospect of grinding 40+ mobs doesn't intrigue me in the least but I have to do it because it's the only way to progress the relic. I'm more interested in getting the behemoth pelt from the nm among other rare oddities but the rng behind them is so egregious it has its own debate. Regardless of whether we do fin this "optimal" way of grinding I highly doubt its as optimal as Yoshi states. If it gets us something like a half or full bar per mob (highly unlikely) then I would be the first to say sorry but that still doesn't hide the fact that this is just bad content.

It's bad because of the lack of a mount to artificially slow the grind, bad because the chains break not as a result of the player but a hard cap of 30, bad because of the rng behind NM spawns and NM rewards (including Bunny fates) and just over all bad because it took the one thing that the casual people don't like and condense it into its own instance with no other work around. I'm talking about mindlessly hitting a mob over and over and over again and this is coming from a guy who isn't even casual with several raid clears under his belt including the coil series and deltascape which I pugged through. You only get a first impression once and this content, as soon as I stepped into it, is bad.

Stuff like this gets mistranslated all the time. I don't speak Japanese but it could be like "the way we think is optimal". lol

i have 6 of these planned to make since i like to make all relics for my favorite classes
but light isnt that much of a problem for me i think its more the 500 crystals
like louhi only giving 20 compared to pazuzus 50

if light hasnt been a problem for you what do you do to farm light? its been going way slow for me

I've never gotten anything other than feeble, and it's killing my hands. What's the trick?

We should just get triple light rate and reward from chains because everyone who begged for the train to come back will slowly realize chaining is what was needed for the actual relic, and that leveling wasn't the biggest issue.

He probably spends hours chaining. The people who only chain and ignore NMs will be good on frosted but wont have enough crystals, while the people who do only NM train will be good on crystals but not nearly enough frosted.
