The Doman Restoration was a good inventory/retainer clean up excuse

The side story is nice and all but I really wish they would unlock it. Maybe take away the weekly "goal" so it doesn't feel like you -have to- use it. But I found it pretty useful for dumping all my crap I somehow collect during the week. When it first came out I thought it was a genius move by SE to encourage people to empty their unneeded junk. I was surprised they put a hold on it at the end of the quest chain.

I realise you can sell it all to a vendor but I dunno, the donating thing was nice lore wise, the quick menu was more convenient.

Especially now that I have enough useless materia and fireworks and Eureken pots to fund a new Doman army from Pagos.

I could have sworn that when you finished the "quest" so far it gave you a message like "you can keep donating, it just won't count to the restoration effort until later updates!" but when I tried it next week, no luck. I'd like it if they just kept it going even if you finish the restorations so far.

...and maybe after you hit the weekly cap you can keep donating towards "orphaned Doman children" or something, just to keep it going.

“Here, have these fish I’ve been stashing for months because nobody will buy them off me. Sorry they smell a bit. I’m sure you can find a use for them.”

But seriously, I like the idea of donating items and getting something out of it, rather than discarding them or selling to NPCs for next to nothing.

Even if they could pay in company seals or something, I mean, gil is fine as well. It's not really about the reward as such, more just a nice way to keep inven organised and clean.

They turned off the "continue on even after you finish" option for a couple of weeks after HoH came out, I think (nothing to do with HoH, I just remember that being when.) There was a bug where if you bought something back after having finished you wouldn't be able to continue when they started the next set of quests. However, that bug has been fixed and you should be able to sell back to them every week again.

I've been doing it each week, What exactly does it do? What's the reward? When does it kick in?

there's really no point to donate after you've gotten the "Bio-doma II" acheivement and unlocked the vendor. There aren't anymore updates to the Doman Enclave until another patch adds content to it. you can if you want but there's no reward for doing so.

What value of items are you handing in? When you’ve donated enough, you get a short cutscene with some dialogue and the state of the rebuilding progresses. It should happen fairly often if you’re donating as much as you can.

so that's all i'm doing this for, some cutscenes? Yeah, I'm getting those but I thought maybe there was some sort of special vendor we will get at the end of it or anything of interest for donating. I'm still doing it but i really dont get what the point of this was other than an item sink...

You do unlock a special vendor that has a few exclusive items.

But the whole point of it is not a vendor, is to have you, the player, participate in the restoration of a city, as we didn't actually do anything to restore Idyllshire or Rev Toll.

the Junkmonger sells an exclusive crafting mat to make the Wind-up Sadu minion.

the questline is also not over so there should be more stuff later. the biggest thing i hope for is unlocking Rowena vendor's in the area so i don't have to go back to Rhalgr's Reach.

But we dont even have any control over it, its just "turn in junk, watch clip." Hopefully later on that vendor sells you more stuff? I can only imagine once its complete there will be more going on but currently its pretty uninspired content. and people complained about eureka...

because Eureka is high resource playable content that replaces a dungeon every other patch. as uninspired as this might be, it costs very little.

Because those were natural evolutions of places we already spent a lot of time in. The enclave restoration is a tiny event in a place that only exists for MSQ and said event. Enclave vs Mor Dhona/Idyllshire isn't a meaningful comparison.

the 80% increase on items sold is really good.

Buy things on the MB at below vendor value and sell them for 80% profit. It's a free ~32,000 gil a month.

On the other hand, the older cities’ developments are completely lost on new players. I arrived in both towns fully constructed and didn’t even know they had changed over time until I read about it here.

Knowing about it for the second time through the MSQ, I could see where this caused a few slightly odd statements that must have been said in the context of an earlier period in the development. Plus some odd character speech bubbles around Idyllshire (like the “no longer calling for engineers” guy) that are presumably the last in a chain of different comments that can never be seen if you weren’t there when it was changing.

Doma’s individual progression works better for keeping the story intact in future.

When the Doman Reconstruction was first announced, I had hoped it would be a separate area that we could build and set up similarly to how you would manage your in-game home. Place this stall here...put these figures here... etc. and you could design it the way you wanted, like a separate instance.

But with housing being such a strain on resources, somehow, I can see why they didn't go that route. It would've been a lot of fun though!

At least Idyllshire and More Dounuts were alive and busy with players, had vendors everywhere, was a main endgame hub. I'm still doing it because it costs me nothing to pop in once a week and unload my junk but I really see no point to it. I cant even select which part of it I want to put my efforts towards and the extremely minimal story you get is really dull, after I completed the stalls(?) i didnt even watch further cutscenes.

Can you tell me what you enjoy most out of the Doman restoration? What excites you about it and why do you return each week to complete the task?

Ahh... I didn't realize that was an error that stopped allowing me to donate stuff to them. I finished the restoration on the first week it was available, and then was denied the ability to donate at all the following week... so I haven't tried to trade anything else to them since.

I've been stocking up for the next iteration though, so I'll just wait til the system gets expanded and further restorations are possible.

It's an interesting side story that helps the game world feel more like a real world that's changing and evolving (mostly) independent of the player character. It's rare for a game to take us back to one of the villages we've saved so we can see how the residents have recovered from whatever problem they had faced and we had solved for them. The Doman reconstruction is letting us watch that happen with minimal input from us as we go about saving the world in other places.

Personally I'm looking forward to the next chapter. It will be interesting to see how it further develops without the Warrior of Light having to step in to solve their problems for them. They never fully addressed the housing issue other than a mention of diverting resources from The Yard. There was a veiled hint at possible racial tension in the last cinematic with a group of Domans shunning a Lupin and also talk of how they need to make the enclave look like a place where business people will want to do business. The Aetheryte plaza looks nearly as bad as what had been a vacant lot by my parent's house when I was growing up so certainly that's something that will have to be addressed before it's all done.

If you're not enjoying it then don't do it. Nothing about the reconstruction is tied to character progression. At most you miss out on the novelty items on the vendor, which are primarily geared toward housing fanatics, and getting 20k gil for 11k gil worth of vendor trash each week.

i like that there's a quest line that introduces new characters and lets us revisit old ones. i wish there was something like this in the Steppes since those characters are more interesting.

there's no reason to go back after all the cutscenes end. i like Squadron too but there's no real reason to go back to it every week until the next rank up.

they did screw up the Doman Reconstruction in two ways
- didn't start it right away (should've been around at launch of x.1 at the latest)
- didn't put any end game NPCs there, some combination of Tomestone or Scrip vendors here at the start would make the place more active. they could've had the princess come here for Custom Deliveries and relevant scrip NPCs.

they couldn't start doman reconstruction right away because of the story. the exchange had to happen first for the doman people to come home.

Mor Dhona evolved, but it evolved as necessary since the 2.x Crystal Braves story required an entire extra building, plus Rowena's stuff evolved significantly due to needing multiple vendors to deal with what in later patches are ex-primals vendors, and raid vendors that Rowena's building area just comes with room eight vendors. Plus there's three other NPC's not in her shop, but located nearby in Idylleshire for how crafting evolved, and a relic weapon step.

The Doman Enclave however is not Ralghar's Reach. But since the storyline takes place in two separate areas, two separate headquarters need to exist. Rhalgar's Reach has two versions, of which you can only see one version during the MSQ, but otherwise is just a re-skin of it, as you can see players standing near things that exist during the normal version. The Doman Enclave also works that way, where as other players who haven't done it, do not see the new buildings or vendor. So it's likely to stay a permanent thing that you'll eventually have to do to unlock additional vendors during the remaining 4.x patches, but those additional vendors might only deal with upgrades to existing "relic" crafting gear or something.

It very well may become a HUB just like Idyllshire or Revenants Toll...Who said it won't?!

You can say all you want that it's an optional content and what not, but there's nothing stopping them from putting in several relevant characters and have their generic speech bubbles say something like "I hope they will start rebuilding soon." or the like if a person didn't progress in it yet. Have these special vendors (like Rowena) bring in just the core stuff, with their inventories increasing as the rebuilding progresses ("As the warehouses are rebuilt, merchants have space to store more wares.").

Though...not like it really matters to me. It doesn't need to be any more relevant than Namai or Tamamizu, both of which are just yer average towns with nothing in them (sans Kojin in case of Tamamizu). You'll go there for some main quests, some side quests (which can be added to the Enclave as the reconstruction progresses as well!). If a town have beast tribes then that...Otherwise it's just going to be an aetheryte location...And in case of the Enclave, you actually see it being built which gives that much enjoyment.
I mean...this is an RPG game with a rich story. So yeah...I really do the enclave for the story. I don't care about the gil or the stuff being sold in the vendors. I just care about the vendors appearing, even if they sell the same things every other town does.

They should've written the story better.

I can write it better to make it happen. First patch after expansion, Rowena goes to Yugiri and Hien and offers to start it off, boom done. now we have tomestone vendors there.

you need to figure out what the word "it" means in that sentence.

you haven't said the slightest thing why the story is so perfect that Rowena who dealt with Yugiri's Doman refugees for multiple patches can't have any interest in expanding her business.
