It was recommend to me by multiple GMs, most recently GM Verenthentus, that I post this here.
For serious health reasons, I was hospitalized recently for over 30 days. To be honest, although FFXIV was the least of my concerns, one of my main reasons for playing this game was player housing and I was worried about losing my house even prior to going into the hospital. I did try to search and had read that as long as my subscription was active I'd be okay. I didn't see anywhere anything about having to log in and use my house during this time. Such a thing would never have crossed my mind. And, even if it had, I would have been unable to do so regardless.
I was one of those types who spent too much gil and way too much real-life money on items for my house. But, more importantly, I probably spent well over 40 or 50 real life hours meticulously placing things in my house via the wall/shelf tricks and such. I am sure some of the people in my free company could verify this.
Anyway, upon leaving the hospital, I saw the three day warning that my house would be removed. Unfortunately, that was literally 8 hours too late. I logged in immediately and someone had already purchased my house lot.
I have submitted various email tickets and had, for me, insufficient responses. Today I finally got a hold of an in-game GM and he was very friendly and said I should ask here if there's any possibility to restore from a backup the inner inner instance of my home. I understand that it's not possible outside and, to be honest, while I loved where my house was I could live with it being anywhere else. It was the inside that was my pride and joy.
He also mentioned checking with the Resident Caretaker as 80% of my items and gil should be retrievable there. I don't know if I can even recall everything I had in my house as I was almost at max capacity (mansion) but looking even now, the caretaker only has 240 items, and I can see that many mog station items are missing. I had bought way too many carbuncle lamps, they had been the central way I decorated the main "throne" room, using, again, all the wall tricks and such at our player's disposal.
Honestly, I hate customers who say things like, "Well, I won't be shopping here again" but housing is one of the main reasons I've loved this game. Between that and character customization has been where this MMO soared for me above the others. I kept my subscription active, which is around $50 with full retainer service, but if something more customer-service friendly cannot be done, I don't know if I really will stay motivated to play anymore. I just say that realistically, nothing more. The point of MMOs, for me, is the stamp you get to leave on the world you've entered. Having that removed, even while paying for it (and after less than two months) seems very inappropriate.
Please let me know, definitively, if anything more can be done or not so I can make a decision. I appreciate your time.

Sorry to hear about your problem. It is why I think housing should be tied to the subscription and not on some timer.
Be sure to retrieve the items and gil from the Resident Caretaker as they are only held for a limited time as well before they are permanently deleted.
As far as the house it is gone and your only alternative is to look for a new one. You are best off buying any old house you can and relocate for a better lot than waiting around for your ideal lot to come of the timer. Relocation is not affected by the timer so this is the most surefire way to get a better property.
As to the mog station the only thing I can suggest is if you still have proof you purchased them to try and see if SE will send you new copies. This is one of the problems I have with SE and the way they run the mog station. Too many housing items are treated as consumables when they should not be. Given SE's history of not caring I would not get my hopes up that you will be able to recover more than your have. -

I'm sorry to hear what happened and hope you have a good recovery. Unless the GM told you to post on the housing forum, you might get more attention for at least the recovery of your Mog Station items in Technical Support. At least in my experience GMs or mods rarely post in the threads here and this forum is mostly for feedback and discussion.
While I understand the need for the demolition timer unfortunately people loosing their house because they do not understand the specifics of the system isn't rare. Tying it to subscription would be ideal, but I have faint hope of that happening. -

Be aware that you will need to place things back manually if/when you get your hands on a new house. You'll have to do so again if you relocate as well.Quote:

I believe there are warnings associated with buying mogstation furniture that they are not responsible if people take it out of your house or are lost via demolition. I'm sorry for your situation but there's no way to recover what you've lost other than the items that are sitting with the housing npc.

Every furniture item that you buy from the mogstation has this disclaimer listed on the page:
* This is a furnishing item for housing. Please note that the following may result in the loss of this item:
・The removal of this item by another player.
・Leaving or being discharged from a free company.
・Unsharing an estate.
・The demolition of an estate.
* This item will be distributed to a single character on the selected account.
Furthermore when you place an item in your house that is not meant to be removable or is a mogstation item it will reiterate those points. I don't think the GMs will return these items if they were destroyed on demolition because you were adequately warned.
This page outlines the rules for demolition and what is required to reset it. Because it explicitly states the house needs to be accessed I don't think the GMs will do anything to recover your house. In their eyes its our responsibility to monitor our house and its demo timer, if we fail to use it then thats on us regardless of the circumstances around the issue.

Your best bet is to get your gil and items from the reclamation vendor and search for a new house. -

I wish I had known that I would need to somehow visit my house during those 30 days, although even if I had known I am not sure how I would have made that happen. I didn't share my estate with anyone but I could have. But, again, I did not know that those were the terms. It was my mistake but that isn't to say that the system itself is fair.Quote:

Sorry to hear about your house. My pc broke down and i i got a warning email and after 3 weeks got my replacement part, fixed my pc and saved my house. i would have been very upset to loose my home after all these years. I also think they should be subscription based. Good luck and hope you are well.

A little late to this, but a few years ago I was hospitalized once for over a week due to pneumonia and complications stemming from it. I had things growing in my garden and I absolutely did not want them to perish. If I recall, they were thav. onions and at the time were valuable and useful to me.
This isn't something you openly say you'll do, but I had my brother log onto my account for me from my computer and he tended to my garden and helped me harvest my plants. And if I had ended up staying there for over a month for whatever reason, I would definitely have had my brother reset my house's timer for me as well. -

45 days is too short. There are so many real life situations that can easily take you away from your gaming rig for even longer than that. The demolition timer should be the same as game cards which is 60 days. It's not uncommon for people to be unable to play for a month, but much less so for two months.
Tenants should be able to reset timers. I don't understand why this isn't the case. It's very common for people to pool their gil together to buy a home and furnish it together. SE know this, they have direct access to any data pointing to this. Yet the housing system acts like this is a rare occurrence so only owners of private homes can reset the timer. This is incredibly unfair on players who poured resources into the house but can do -nothing- to keep it.
The housing system is far better than before but better does not mean perfect. The demolition timer and how it can be reset really needs to be revisited by SE because it is currently too punishing. -

For example I don't think there's been a single day in the last few years that I haven't logged in, even if it was just for a brief time. But no matter what figure they set, there will always be someone who says it's not long enough. If there's a problem with someone's hardware, they only need to login on another machine to quickly walk inside and reset the timer. The Windows version of the game will even run from a USB drive.Quote:

Honestly I doubt there would be any outrage from the larger gaming sites about this issue specifically. FFXIV's housing problems do get articles written about them but being able to loose your mog station items when you loose your house has been around since they started they started selling housing items on the mog station and I think I've only seen it occasionally mentioned in articles. It used to be worse since you could buy a seasonal wallpaper and loose it if you changed the wallpaper in your house. I'm not saying this isn't a problem--SE sould give us some way to require cash items in game if they have been lost etc or hold all items in a deleted house permanently if they are worried about people using the fact that tenets and FC members can pick up bound items to sell Mog Station items to other players for gil.

Honestly, if I lost my house due to something like that, I would unsub as it is the only thing that keeps me tied to FF on a monthly basis especially since the disaster of Pagos and other things recently. I agree housing should be tied to sub cost and it was originally presented in that fashion as you can read in my sig. At this point, tying people to subs via their houses are a way to ensure at least some constant income. I have friends that would unsub also if not tied in. There will come a day however, with all SE's shenanigans that enough will be enough.
