Congrats on Pagos SE!

You did it, you wanted to make a section of the game like FFXI, well you've done it in spades. Pagos, is super unfriendly between groups, has resource competition, and an exhaustively long grind that is mindless and leaves you feeling unaccomplished after hours with no discernible progress.

Now that you've accomplished this long time goal, can you point us in the direction of SE approved combat bots that are so prevalent in FFXI. I mean you want the full experience right, we need some bots to do the grinding for us, like FFXI players do.

It seems like you hate FFXI more than Pagos. I don't like Pagos either but FFXI doesn't deserve to be compared to it, FFXI did a lot of things right that SE chose not to learn from, like adding level sync so you can exp with friends.

And you probably didn't need to make a whole new thread for this.

They already exist, pathetically enough.

Some members of my server's resident bot farming circle have been partied together and farming same level mobs in there for the past three days or so.

The EXP curve is going to catch up with them sooner or later, though, because grinding same level mobs in a party for 300ish EXP a kill isn't going to cut it in the 30+ range, not to mention they'll need to start moving past the dragons.

Eureka and Pagos in particular are clearly trying to be similar to FFXI, but the problem is they took all the worst parts of FFXI and didn't include any of the good parts.

I hope the devs are stuck leveling in pagos for 14 hours straight during the 14 hours live stream

Yeah FFXI was much worse especially in its early days.

I remember leveling first job in FFXI being a dps around 55 on a lower population server and it could literally take a week to even get a party and even then you would be lucky to even get a level out of the party most of the time.

Compared to that Eureka is nothing.

Nothing? Well it is nothing belonging in FFXIV I'll give you that.

There's a place for FFXI content, the clue is in the game title.
Get rid of this complete brainless grind from XIV devs. You are dragging it down to the basement level of a ftp button masher.

I hope some media release any kind of article describing how bad is Eureka (and how it can actually hurt you physically when playing it as intended) and hurts FFXIV reputation so finally SE decides to do something about the uninspired content it's been released for the last patches.

Please do not compare FFXI and Eureka. They are nothing alike.

The grind, while overwhelming in FFXI, was much more bearable and even enjoyable due to a lot of factors (combat system, side progresion, accomplishment feeling, purpose, social aspect).

And the grind is pretty much the only aspect vaguely similar to FFXI.

In Eureka the ratio grind/fun/reward weight heavily in favor of the grind.
You can't expect people to enjoy hours and hours of grind, with a gameplay that make you push a lot of buttons, without thinking, without pausing, without chatting, against boring trash.
With a death penalty that is much worse than in FFXI.
With virtually no rewards at all beside cosmetics.

No, I welcome difficulty, I'm ok with grind, but with the right gameplay and the right rewards.

I loved FFXI's grind despite all it's flaws and I absolutly HATE Eureka.

I'm one of those persons who would like to see stuffs from FFXI brought in FFXIV. - But. Not. The. Worst. Parts. Of. It. -

I do not want any overwhelming grind in FFXIV no matter where the heck it came from. Just because some FFXI players take a rose tinted view of past playing experiences doesn’t mean:
1. They are accurate - as the past reality is seldom what we actually like to reminisce about.
2. Players who didn’t log in to the other game want that thrust on them here.

The game needs to get back to its own identity, not be highjacked by other dull rubbish.

Hope Devs is stuck for 2 hours just waiting for invite to a party.

Just go in, do your weekly challenge log, gain 2 levels, leave and come back the next week. You'll hit 35 and be capped in a month or so of minimal effort, and still be out of stuff to do long before more content is added again.

The folks comparing XI and Eureka don't seem to have actually played XI. They heard about things, they may have dabbled a bit, but they didn't actually play the game. I played it for well over a decade of my life and will always remember it fondly.

It had flaws, sure, but nothing as egregious as this one and let's remember that it was one of the first mmos to become successful and had some growing pains. The big problem with Eureka is that there is absolutely no excuse for it to have launched with the same growing pains. Fifteen + years of developing XI taught the team a lot and by the time there were no dev kits left and no more expansions forthcoming, we had systems that really rocked and made the game super fun. All of those systems could have been added to Eureka at the start - like level sync, like our companion Trusts, like proper xp chaining, or maybe the books that sent us to kill xyz, or any number of improvements that has made XI pretty freaking amazing. It's sad that they don't have much of a choice but to contract out an entire rewrite, but I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway, I'm starting to digress. The point is that XI grew up over the years and everyone bashing it either didn't stick with it or didn't play it at all, or didn't understand the time period. It wasn't the same as it is now with instant gratification and everything f2p ad driven. It was a different era where getting 1-2 levels was a really big accomplishment because it meant you could equip a new piece of gear... and gear was relevant for much longer. Hell, people wore Leaping boots well into end game. Don't get me started on Okotes. Just getting these pieces was a task in itself that left you with a sense of pride and accomplishment and they were almost always still useful expansions later in gear swapping scenarios to improve stats (minmax). It wasn't like it is here where if you don't hit max level immediately you had nothing worthwhile to work on. The game was designed to grow alongside your character. It was really rare for something to truly be no longer useful. Gear wasn't as throwaway as it is here where the ilvl increases, and boom your old stuff gets put on the retainer at best, but mostly just turned into the grand company seals vendor.

Eureka uses an FFXIV formula with enough references to XI to make it insulting. There's no rewards. You aren't looking forward to anything. The first handful of quests don't even give you anything that improves your character and from what I hear, NONE of them actually do and you don't even get to mount up until max level. Relic won't be relevant for long enough to make it worth the grind. Casuals will be limited to basically waiting for the weekly challenge log to reset and then likely soloing mobs back in Anemos to complete that, unless SE nerfs the ability to even get xp back in there (which I'm sure they will).

This is nothing like what XI players wanted. None of us asked for this. The elemental wheel wasn't a literal elemental wheel, it was a complex system of strengths versus weaknesses we could employ in numerous ways with skillchains and magic bursts to give ourselves an advantage in combat. Everything in Eureka references something in XI, but it's so watered down and in many cases completely misinterpreted that they really should just delete it from the game entirely. That's how I feel as someone who gave over a decade of her life to Final Fantasy XI. I'm only even here because there's nothing left in XI for me to do anymore, not really. And that's not their fault. It's just over.

And it's looking like it might be over for this game as well, at least for me. I canceled my subscription two nights ago. I haven't logged in since. I'm still checking the forums to see if they are going to address this travesty, but there doesn't seem to be any hope of that.

It makes me sad.

And it's frankly time for people to realize that no content you copy over ever will be alike, even if it were a 100% copy-paste job.

Realize that whatever content you wanna port over will be played with the combat system of FFXIV with the mechanics and wonky engine of FFXIV. It will use the reward systems of FFXIV, which will in turn use the character and stat system of FFXIV.
You won't chat much during combat due to 2,5 second GCD. You won't get long lasting rewards except glamour. Forget about your skill chains and magic bursts, it'll be fixed rotations. Forget about horizontal progression, it'll be vertical with a set progression pace per patch and bland stats. Forget about gear swapping, merit points and subjobs.

I wish people would. Nearly every "It's not like FFXI at all!" post I read barely touches the actual content differences and instead goes on to list systemic differences between the games instead. It's like re-creating a FFXIV dungeon in Skyrim, even if you are able to replicate it well, it will seem little alike.

Playing FFXI now is so totally different to what most folks on here remember. You can solo nearly all content in XI now.

I didn't play XI all that much but I seem to recall that the massive grinds usually led to some kind of valuable reward right? I mean, that's why people were doing the grind correct?

Pagos doesn't even have that bit.

Why are you saying this game made something like FFXI? it didn't. It would be nice if there was something like FFXI on the lines of endgame progression but that does not exist. The only thing that exists in ffxi in ffxiv is character models.

Correct. Relics in FFXI were not obsolete after a month.

I remember the grind of xi taking me a year to get unlock and get my main to 75. This wont. And it was done by grinding mobs.
I'm interested in how this formula will change later. What feeling will they try to capture next. My hope is the besiege and CoP dungeons/boss. Throw in a ton more of special gear with job specific ability enhancements.
