How will the following merge issues be handled?
First off I'm very unhappy with this wold merge and even more so after reading the post of how it will be handled.
I would like a couple of questions answered regarding this.
- Currently when more then 4 groups are standing together at ifrit or moogle ppl start red ringing left and right, characters don't spawn people are having trouble getting other ppl rezes because they don't spawn etc. etc. How is this going to be fixed with double the amount of players?
- Same question for the instance servers, how will an increase of population be handle there? Because at this point we all know the horrible delays we are already experiencing at those above mentioned riads.
- Will the market wards be linked before this merge? or is ul'dah going to lag even more now?
- Most of us choose the server by name, because the name meant something to us and we liked it, is it set in stone that we only get to know were we move after we did it?
- Why is the transfer set in such a short period of time? ppl that are not online during that 9 days (army, holiday, work) will just be automatically distributed across the Worlds??
- So if for example husband and wife play together and come back from their holiday only to discover that they are just randomly tossed on different servers how will this be handled?
- Groups of friends and linkshells obviously what to stay together before selecting a server will it show how many 'slots' are still open? Or do we have to keep repeating this transfer process until we find a server that we all are able to get in before it is full and locked?
- All linkshells will be deleted, do we get more crest options before this? Since it is already very hard to get a unique ls crest.
Why don't you make a online server list that players can select and change around, so we can already see who choosers what and enables the people that are not online during that short period of time to log into their loadstone and set a server before randomly being distributed across the worlds.

First of all, nothing is ever set in stone.

Second of all, the first few points you make are all issues that need to be resolved anyway before SE tries to make a PR push to save this game.

Third, you have over a month to select your world. If you're on a month long+ vacation, I'd say you have it too good to be fretting over your FFXIV server. Military deployments are a little different, but that's really part of the package when you choose to join the armed forces. If giving up your FFXIV server is the greatest sacrifice you have to make for your country during your deployment, then consider yourself luckier than most.

I do sympathize with the people who feel that their server is being "destroyed", but honestly it's better to just get over it and adapt.

What about those people who already have vacation planned for the beginning of March? Or even those who have rl issues pop up. Either way, a currently active paying player may get screwed just because they're unable to log in during that little time window.

You're both wrong, really. We have 1-19 March overall, but there will be a "Stage 2" of the selection process a week or so in after which full servers are completely out of the question. So the actual time to choose your server can be up to 18-19 days (too lazy to find the hours) depending on the population of the destination server.

You do have over a month to "Select" your server. You have over a month to network and talk to your friends and community to pick a number between 1 and 10.

If you have an active life (work, school, family etc) you have to realise that getting online at the same time as everyone else of your LS/friends group/etc to make a decision that suits all, a month isnt alot of time at all.

This is by far one of the worst server merger systems ive seen, instead of taking "low pop server A" and merging it with "medium pop server B" which would be the simplest solution to cater to both casual, active and inactive players.

Now we'll have this scenario instead where friend groups and LSs will be split up and end up on different servers in many cases.

if they are just trown randomly in there.. that would suck....

These issues apply to non-active players... They have over a month to reactivate if they don't want to be randomly distributed.

EDIT: I didn't actually read any responses before posting but it seems a ton of people already said this.

It will be the same. Population has decreased recently but no decrease in lag.

Stay the same. Its more of an architecture problem to be addressed fully in 2.0

Uldah will lag more. It wasn't made to be a hub for all the players in the game.

It is set in stone. SE thinks its reason for choosing option 4 are more important.

I didn't realize the transfer was happening 9 days from now.

Friends and linkshells who want to stay together should wait a few days before selecting a server. That way the bulk of people will have selected and the servers that are full will be so already.

This has nothing to do with the server transfers
