Has anyone else out there every have their XIV files randomly corrupt?
I mean, no data is actually lost, but you pretty much just have to re-download the game.
I'm just curious if there is a specific cause, and any ways to avoid it.

I've had that happen a couple times on my ps4, but not on my pc back when I played on the latter. I'm careful, even, to log out after 15+ seconds of doing nothing else in-game, and then turning off my system at least 20 seconds after the game client is closed. I suspect it to be a Sony issue, but I cannot confirm nor deny that. *shrugs*
Are you using Steam's verify files feature?
If so, don't. That'll always show as corrupted files as the game updates outside of Steam and since Steam only has 2.1 on their servers it sees the game is different to what it has and downloads 2.1, only for the launcher to then make you redownload every patch/update since then.
If you're not talking about that though, ignore me :)
I've never had it happen before, but I hear about it often enough I always make pre and post-patch backups of the game files just in case.
I'm on PS4 and not too long after Stormblood launched, we had a power outage, and the game redownloaded itself.
Never had an issue ever since I stopped using steam.
A file check option would be really great to have in the launcher. If a file is corrupt, let the launcher grab -just- that file instead of sometimes gigabyte-large patch files that have be applied in order. Even if SE just updated the base packages more often, that would be nice.
Or like, differential client updates and/or streaming updates like other games. This could be particularly useful for new players where they could begin the 2.0 story after the ARR bits are done being downloaded while the launcher grabs HW and SB.
i had to download the game several times on my PS4 in the last months. the technical support was kind, but sadly couldn't help me.
i would quit the game if i hadn't such a nice FC. but i have to literally re-download the 27 GB every week. that takes 8 hours and that means i can't play at all on that day or use the PS4 for anything else. no idea how long until i finally give up.... >.>
last time was on tuesday, the patch download took a little longer than expected...
and again a 27 GB update... lasted at least 5 days this time >.>
60 days left on my sub... i really don't want to quit, but this nonsense is unbearable! and i still have no idea why this error occurs so often on my PS4. everything else runs fine, only the FF14 client makes problems.
I play on PC and don't use steam. I've never had an issue with this... didn't even know it was a thing. :/
I've never had data corruption on my PS4, even though I rarely ever shut it down(usually only when there is a major update, then I shut it down - otherwise sleep mode). I don't even close FFXIV unless I'm going to play some other game. We've had power outages, but even then with my PS4 in sleep mode, and being "incorrectly shut down", no corruption.
I had it happen to me on my PS4 about two weeks ago. It was a pain, but I reinstalled it after about 5 hours. That said, I have no idea how the files became corrupted, as I'm always careful to close all applications from their main menus before shutting the PS4 down. I've had save file corruption issues with auto-saving games in the past, so returning to the main menu's become second nature, even on games with manual saving.
i am careful with shuttting the game off too, but it happens anyway.
because i was using an 4 years old SSD harddrive in my PS4, the technical support here on the board said it could be possible that this was causing the problem, that the SSD wasn't working correctly anymore. so i exchanged the harddrive with a new HDD, reinstalled the whole system software and everything new. it worked for a few weeks, but then the error occured 2 times within 7 days. so i put my old SSD back in because the loading times are soo bad without it xD had the error again 2 times within the last week...
i found this topic: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...problem-return
that's from april, around the same time when it started that my data got corrupted every few days...
