SAM worth?
Greetings,
I'm a new final fatansy player and An issue has been bothering me.
I'm recently reached lvl 50 and became a samurai and enjoy so much to play with him. But, Some guildmates were telling me SAM is worst melee DPS and i will not make end game content, because have no utility to party.
That's true? I know SAM does not give much to the party, but I will not get some progress?
Thanks.
P.s: Anyone have some SAM guide?

Nothing is unusable in endgame.
Unless you're on the bleeding edge if being the world first clear of new content, your class likely won't matter.
Some groups have their preferred jobs to take, but they can very likely succeed with others all the same.
-
I main sam... 90% of the population will never play at the level that it will matter which class you choose over another... play what you enjoy and get good at that class... anyone who locks you out due to class choice most likely isn't worth playing with

Samurai, unfortunately, is a job where if you aren't stellar relative to the group, you're borderline useless. This is due to it's only contribution being raw damage. A bad Dragoon still offers piercing, Battle Litany and Dragon Sight whereas a bad Samurai offers nothing.
Now with that said, if you're dedicated, you can not only play Samurai, but find groups happily willing to accept you. Just keep in mind, you may struggle depending on what your aspirations. If you only want to get your feet wet and join a more casual static or pug, don't worry too much about meta or what have you. If you eventually aim to get into more mid groups though, it can be difficult squeezing in as you're generally competing with Monk and Ninja—the latter being very popular.

It is what you make it
I main SAM. But I also have MNK and BRD up to 70 for DPS. I think that if you care about being as effective as possible in top tier content like Sigma Savage or UwU, then you would be better served with choosing another class. However, that doesn't mean you can't do that content as a SAM. I love SAM, it's simple and satisfying to play well. I think if you enjoy SAM, you shouldn't be afraid to stick with it. There's also no harm in branching out and trying a different DPS. I would suggest MNK, since they share gear with SAM and that way you don't feel overwhelmed when gearing your job. Also, don't listen to Bourne Endeavor. You have a slashing debuff as SAM and while Ninja and Warrior have the same debuff, it's still a useful addition. You won't always have a WAR or NIN in the group. All content has been cleared by all jobs. Play what you like.
-
Play what you like. Even in extreme and savage content, SAM is doing its job well. We had a static with SAM, MNK and RDM and we could clear Sigmascape savage just fine.
Also, not every party has a NIN and a WAR (I really like the PLD/DRK combo for example, and NIN isn't always available), and the fact SAM is bringing slashing debuff is really nice.

I'd rather play with someone who is dedicated to learning a non meta job they enjoy playing than someone fumbling around on a meta job. Jobs in this game are pretty balanced to where you'll be fine clearing with any job u pick. That being said as a Samurai your support to the group is your big damage numbers and slashing debuff. So I'll suggest for now since ur only lvl 50 enjoy the lvling of Sam right now, personally for me it was one of my favorite jobs to lvl, it's a job u will naturally learn to play overtime and when u hit lvl 70 Google a samurai guide to see where u can optimize your dps.

Pretty what people said.
Unless you are looking for bleeding edge progression and world first (where every bit of dps will matter) your job simply won't matter.
In any case, your skill as a player will be orders of magnitudes more important than your job.
Simple yet effective example, you should always out dps a redmage, yet à good redmage will out dps a bad samurai.
A group of good non meta job will always do better than a group of meta job.
So I wouldn't worry too much. If your good and work hard you'll be able to clear any content really.
I play BLM when I dps and people can say what ever they want about BLM being a selfish dps, when in most group at least 2 dps die during the encounter, my selfish dps brings more rdps than the Nin who died.
I don't think there's currently a single encounter where you can lack dps if no one dies and play remotely nice.

Thx for de answer ppl! I will stay with SAM!

the only issue sam's (and blm) have, is that Party Finders sometimes (or often) exclude them from savage / ultimate / extreme endraids..., since sam and Blm do not buff others, and for many "good fflogs" uplaods are more important than anything..., and for that sam and blm are "useless" for others (unless the PF has no nin or war for the slashing debuff)
if fflogs site were tooken down, the "meta" comp issue would drop in half if not more... (its imo more a "I want a dps that buffs me", than a "ideal comp" issue with the meta thingy)

Stay as SAM and get good at playing samurai. Know that the skill floor is pretty low, but the skill ceiling is pretty high. Research the job, I recommend joining the Balance discord if you're able. They have some of the best SAM advice and guides out there. Never stop improving. Because when you do finally reach those high numbers of the skilled SAM's, your groups will appreciate you for it despite the lack of utility. Your damage is your utility, so learn how to master that shit. And have fun! Samurai flows so well at 70.

People treat meta comps as gospel, I've had several meta comps in PF utterly fail before halfway into the fight. They're considered "trap" parties for that reason.
Yes, there are alot of horrible SAMs, but there are horrible players on ALL jobs. SAM/BLM stick out because lolnoutility.
-
People are talking about cutting edge content, and meta comps; But I'll leave you with this.
I played SAM to start the expack. I spent hours upon hours getting denied/locked out in PF (not cutting edge content)
I came back a few weeks ago, and things haven't changed. I got my DRG to 70 and no longer am I waiting at all.
Point being is sure any job can do any content, and that is true. But I don't have (m)any friends nor do I have hours to waste in getting into a group.
If you plan on just duty finder then you'll be gravey!

SE should just give Sam and Blm party dps buffs, ... even if just small, it would make a HUGE difference, making Sam & Blm being accepted in every PF..
(even if they are theoretically still not 100% in the "meta", everyone would accept them right away for sure.. since getting buffed is more important than a 0.01% / world first clear comp for the vast majority; meta is just an excuse to get buffing dps classes for personal fflogs)
just the slashing debuff is not enough for Sam, unless Sam's can exclusively be stacked with the Nin and War debuff
(still prefer buffs for all, and NOT slashing, piercing, magical or physical only)
-
a well played SAM has massive DPS and no group buffs
Massive DPS is what a dps IS FOR
love the SAM

Can you clear all content as Samurai?
Yes
Will it be harder on Samurai than other classes?
Yes
The reason why it will be harder is because the community does not like Samurai for raids. Anyone who raids on a high level will lock out Samurai in Party Finder. You may ask why?
Now if I get a Samurai who doesn't know what he's doing, he's useless. If i on the other hand get a DRG or Ninja that knows at least how to press Battle Litany, use Trick attack or apply piercing debuff, I get some utility out of them.
Barely anyone on a high level of raiding plays Samurai, which is why the mediocre playerbase follows with the idea of "Samurai is not as good as other classes" when they don't even understand why.
The best example would be the following:
At the release of Zurvan Warrior got locked out of it by 90% of Party Finders. This is due to tacking a supposed stack Mechanic alone with Hallowed Ground. The community sees this, they think warrior is bad and lock it out. At the same time, these people are unable to Skip Soar (Good Meme) as 5 DPS players.
The funny thing is that Warrior was able to take the shared damage with the right cooldowns. It's just how the community works. Top players do something for them because of good reasoning, the mediocre players copy it without even knowing why.
Play Ninja or Dragoon and enjoy the easy party finder life. People will love you.

If you're planning to pugging raids - better to switch, honestly. Not only some people outright block SAM in PF, the massive number of SAM players (only casters seems to be more abundant) makes finding a slot in a party pretty hard.
-
I find it super dumb to tell a new player their job isn't any good in end game content, when said player isn't anywhere near end game content, and may not even be especially interested in participating in end game content.
Until you hit 70, all the high end raids and trials you run will probably be unsynced (because nobody is queuing for that synced), where nothing really matters. Dungeons, with Augmented Ironworks/Shire, you'll be overgeared for the majority of leveling dungeons and the 50/60s, so it doesn't really matter.

the real problem is, others want to get buffed, and sam (like blm) doest not buff others..
even if in theory a bad drg is better than a bad sam, since atleast the drg buffs the others, that arguement us hardly a real reason not to take a sam (unless a player just had multiple bad exp with bad sams in a short period of time...)
sam and blm will always have some issues getting into the high end difficult raids, especially since those get parsed and everone wants a good buff / parse
(blm probably has even more issues getting into such raids, blm is very difficult and need to be good or dps will drop,..and since sam has at least slashing debuff, and there are more buffs a sam can use, like mnk brotherhood or drg dragonsight; if it takes too long to get another melee or even caster, Sam might be the valid choice)
