I recall hearing that Yoshi P said there'd be a hint at a new class coming up in 5.0 that wasn't Geomancer.
So is Qitian Dasheng, the boss of Shallow's Compass, the hint?
He's a Sage with a Bo Staff.

It's Dancer look at the new primal she uses a handfan.
Why not both?
So far I've heard in ridorana questline: [/hb] geomancer, arithmetician, templar[/hb]
[/hb]Geomancer[/hb] for sure. pops up a ton lately in the quest dialogue.
He was a reference to Sun Wukong (a legendary figure from a chinese novel called Journey to the West a story about a monkey boy that rides clouds and has a pole that can extend to the heavens. In japanese, his name is translated to Son Goku and is the same character Goku that Dragon Ball is based on)
I have a good guess of what it is but it's a spoiler from the latest MSQ.
I think it's a garlean/gunblade using class because of the reappearance of Gaius on our side in the latest story quests
Without going into spoiler territory, I am convinced the last MSQ quest previewed a new job.
Why don't I want the job? I don't find it appealing. I've never felt gunblades were an interesting weapon. Others can demand it, no problem there. I just really hope that it isn't, so that a different job can be added. I'd take geomancer or dancer or some other original job over a gunblade job personally.
I'd like Templar...
Back before it was confirmed no more jobs would split like SCH and SMN, I always hoped we would get Templar as a tank from LNC.
;; I still would love it to be a tank.
In fairness Garlemald is smack in the middle of the map now with Othard on the east and Eorzea on the west.
The latest MSQ is dropping extremely strong hints at this point of the next expansion being Garlemald itself. We got ascian meddling focused there in the form of Elduldis playing Grand Theft Zenos and Emperor Facepalm in tow while the REAL Zenos has gone Grand Theft Elezen and want a rematch with WoL because why not!?, a dissenting faction in the empire who are more pro-peace because they realize the empire's modus operandi is actually backfiring on their desire to rid the world of primals in that its actually PROVOKING them and we now have an all but confirmed Gaius who's actually managed to survive the end of Castrum Medanium and is seemingly hunting down the Acians with his band of hunters as he recognizes them as the real threat.
If the next expansion is where we think it will be then it's more than likely that there will be a gunblade class released possibly as Magitek Knight since it would be the nearest description unless they're planning it to be closer to Squall's archetype under another name.
I think Gun blade(GNB) would be a good edition if it was other Brd/Mch type
If they do add it hope the don't cop out with the emotes and make them Squall related
like they did with Dark knight and Cloud
I really hope we're going to finally get Dancer soon. It's been requested for a while now and everyone was really disappointed that we didn't get it with Stormblood. I'd love for it to be a support class rather than a healing class though. Bard could use a supportive friend!
What could possibly use a Gunblade? I spotted one near the end of the new MSQ.
As cool as dancer looks in the series, I have always ended up trying it, and turning it down. However, due to the lack of the support role existing, I feel like XIV could be the title make it a full class that can stand on its own. I’d just prefer to save it for Thavnair. Also, I think it would be a better dps due to its nature as a support outside of the MMO games. I would be just fine if it were healer, but would prefer Chemist. Garlmald needs some non magical healing for when we take all of their conscripts.
I get the feeling that we are getting both a tank and a healer next expansion.
They just added 2 new DPS classes, and we know they aren't adding 3 or more jobs at once anymore after HW. It makes sense to me that we'd get a tank and healer then. I haven't played any other FF games, but it sounds as though geomancer and dancer could both be seen as healers and both could feasibly be added, especially geomancer after all the references.
I do like the idea of a support role on its own but I've yet to see an MMO manage it reasonably.
They’re hyping us up for Geomancer but then we’re gonna get a different job in 5.0
Lancer definitely has a 'tank' feel to me! Heavier armour; slow, powerful attacks; an impression of standing front-and-centre and holding the enemy's attention.
Plus it would fit a pattern of each starting city having a mage, physical DPS and tank guild, with the local 'police' (Yellowjackets/Brass Blades/Wood Wailers) using the tank class.
As much as I'd love a gunblade job I don't think it'll be happening. Considering we should get a new Tank and Healer job in 5.0, and neither fits a gunblade in my eyes.
If they don't add both healer and tank, but just one of them together with a DPS I see a huge backlash coming from the peole who are maining the role that got shafted. I for one would probably not play a lot anymore or drop sub if I can't play a new healer next expansion. But that's me.
And as for new jobs in general, I'd like to see less old FF jobs being added and more unique jobs to XIV to make it stand out. Can't complain if something is a tank or not (Dark Knight) or a DPS (Samurai) if it's something brand new.
How does Gunblade not fit the tank role perfectly?
Still, I'd prefer Geomancer as the tank (finally, something different) and Dancer as the healer. Healer peeps tend to get off on attention, so pulling off some stylish dance moves while healing fits that mentality perfectly.
I personally wouldn't expect Fending gear and gunblades to go together very well. But I wouldn't expect to see a geomancer in Fending gear either.
Regardless, I'm definitely in the "gunblades are lame" camp. Much like scythes, I kinda have to turn my brain off to enjoy/appreciate the style. I get it, it's supposed to look cool, but it's a bit too far for my suspension of disbelief. I wouldn't really be surprised to see it happen, tho. Just wouldn't be my first choice.
Simple, when having access to a gunblade I imagine a ranged/melee hybrid playstyle: shoot x times; dash in; slash x times; jump-shot out; repeat.
This is impossible when playing a tank as you'd have to be upfront all the time. If you enjoy shooting at an enemy from point-blank range then sure, that's you. But if I have a gun I want it to feel like a gun and be as far away as possible when I shoot.
Usually lore wise, gunblades are used as versatile weapons mixing meele and ranged, but lacking the specialization of a gun or a blade.
They are jack of all trades due to their versatility, so having them on a tank class would make them pointless.
Would fit on a dps class similar as how red mage mixes melee with ranged spells (imo should be more melee than chaining an empowered 3 hit combo then going back to ranged but thats another issue)
Spellblade/Mystic Knight would be a nice class fit for gunblade-ish designs too. In my book, that is.
There were a /lot/ of hits towards Geomancer this patch.
According to the Ast quest, probably Geomancers might be mixed with Astrologians since they are similar schools and complement each other so they might go similar to how rogue>ninja went in the next expansion, unless they manage to make them distinct despite how much similar they are
I think Yoshi-P said that the new dungeon wasn't supposed to be taken as a hint towards Geomancer but that doesn't mean that it won't happen =)
As for Templar being mentioned, it wouldn't have to use a spear like Dragoon does but it could use a more joust-y type weapon (for those worried about the weapon overlap).
This arithmetician (sp?) sounds interesting but I have no idea about it. All I know is that it's from Tactics.
But hey! there's always Alfie as the new job ;D
That boss Is the Monkey King, no? lol
WHM suffers from barely any identity left as it is so I'll be pretty bitter if GEO ends up being the new healer job. If it's going to be an elemental style DPS that is using every spell BLM and RDM are not already using I still find that to be incredibly lame. However, if all this GEO attention in the game is hinting I suppose I can't be surprised if it happens.
As far as Gunblade, we have so many sword-wielding classes already. The thought of yet another doesn't excite me in anyway but I'm a healer main so I suppose it doesn't effect me.
Can anyone confirm Yoshi P actually stated there is a hint to a new class somewhere in this patch?
Also, that's literally Red Mage.
I don't mind having a Gun Blade class, but maybe not till 6.0 or 7.0 when we actually visit Garlemald. Currently we have X sword jobs:
PLD: 1h Sword
NIN: Short Swords
RDM: Rapier
DRK: Great Sword
SAM: Katana
Of these listed above, we literally just got 2 sword jobs in 4.0. There are other classic FF weapons which have yet to be represented. There was concepts for other jobs early in 1.0:
Quote:
1. There are also several other classes that were present in the dats of early versions of 1.x that were never implemented. These include the Disciple of War classes Fencer (FNC, 決闘士 [kettoushi]) who used rapiers, Enforcer (ENF, 棍術士 [konjutsushi]) who used clubs, Samurai (SAM, 刀術士 [toujutsushi]) who used katanas, Stavesman (STV, 棒術士 [boujutsushi]) who used staves (=poles), Assassin (ASN, 暗器士 [ankishi]) who used dark arts, and Flayer (FLA, 鞭術士 [benjutsushi]) who used whips, the Disciple of Magic class Mystic (MYS, 法術士 [houjutsushi]) who used mysticism and the Disciple of Land class Shepherd (SHP, 牧獣師 [bokujuushi]) who herded beasts. Of the unimplemented classes present in the early days of the game, only Arcanist has since been added to the game, with Musketeer having some presence as well but not as a playable class. However, it could be argued that the likes of Assassin and Mystic have been implemented in a refined form as the jobs Dark Knight and Astrologian.
