Each their own Limit Break

It's kinda annoying that no one allows you to LB because everyone wants to use the damage dealing sort of Limit break. In previous Final fantasies all our characters had their own seperate LB. So plz bring this back to FFXIV by also giving us all a seperate bar so it fills up a little slower, but everyone gets to use their LB seperately without anyone getting annoyed about it!

Healer LB is extremely valuable during progression. Rather than completely changing the intended use of LB I'd rather they work on making ranged/caster and tank LBs more viable, which they have already done for some fights.

I'm not asking to completely change the use of the LB. I'm just asking to seperate the LB's from others so everyone gets to use them.
I don't consider it extremely valuable as right now people still screw up even after the use of one LB. Even noticed some LB's don't even cause damage at all.. (meaning they are weak).
So as far as multiple LB's from DPS go... if stored for bosses 6 LB's would prolly only cause 6% hp to go off... 12% if your lucky.
As far as the healer and tank LB goes... a minor adjustment could fix this issue. Have their LB lose strength depending on how many full bars other players in your party have at the moment you use it.
So if people have less full bars, less people get rezzed by the healer LB (random) and the tank LB will give less damage reduction. Problem solved.

I think it would be kinda cool if everyone had a separate bar that essentially activated a Trance mode when you fill it out that gives the player perhaps some buff, enemy debuff or other possibilities. Of course the standard group LB would still be there, but Trance could be a little something neat to add.

Thats another way of putting it. Adding diffirent effects to each LB, while still keeping the shared LB would be awsome.
Giving the seperate LB's a weaker result but still very usuable.

No because then they would need to buff the HP of all content to balance for the fact that everyone would have their own LB, which would be additional free damage. Secondly it wouldn't make anything easier because of the aforementioned rebalancing, so it simply becomes another cool down to manage. To that end, what would be the difference between giving a DPS their own DPS LB vs giving them a powerful oGCD with a long recast, e.g Dragon Fire Dive, or Contre Sixte or Midare Setsugekka? Those are powerful skills on cool downs, why can't you just imaging that those are "LB"? Or do you want actual skills with a cast bar that do high damage? Again I don't understand why, as it just becomes another thing to manage and use off cool down, another button to press, at that point it just becomes another cool down to use 1 or 2x per fight. Instead just think of Natrond, Contre Sixte, Midare Setsugekka, and other powerful cool downs as "LB"

right now LB is pretty useless and not usefull like you try to bring it because in 70% of the cases people activate LB too soon, they use the wrong LB or waste it on a mob instead of the boss. Only in 30% of the cases LB gets used correctly.
I find it wrong that a 8 player party gets to see their LB get wasted because the random player they happened to end up with is too ignorant a bout how the system works (or too selfish) to care or understand how they should be used.
On that end I think it wouldn't be wrong if SE made it the way it was supposed to be. So EVERYONE gets to contribute and EVERYONE except for yourself is allowed to ruin theirs without completely wasting the entire teams chances.

As a FFIX fanboy, I wholeheartedly support this idea.

Would you go as far as giving them their own unique abilities during said trance, like Dyne for Zidane?

I think adding in a personal LB, similar to the Adrenaline gauge wpuld be cool. And it doesn't have to be "massive" either. Maybe just a 500 potency attack. It's just a FF staple that feels like it's missing.

Again, it would just end up being "another cooldown" to use. What if they just re-branded all the currently existing high potency/long cooldown skills as "Limit Breaks", e.g. Dragonfire Dive, Forbidden Chakra, Hallowed Ground, Foul, Benediction? Because that's literally what you're asking for -- but I'm telling you they ALREADY EXIST, they just don't have "cast bars" or charge animations, but they turn the tide of battle just the same by either having a high potency or by making you invincible or by being a free mega heal for 0 mp, just like DPS/Healer/Tank LBs. Every job already has personal "Limit Breaks" as you want them, they just aren't called Limit Breaks--but they're extremely powerful skills on long cool downs nontheless that are already very similar to Limit Breaks but on a smaller scale.

And we have "trances", most jobs have a stance/skill/aura (Greased Lightning, Life of the Dragon, Darkside) that they maintain with their job gauges, and when the gauge is maxed out, they unleash "Limit Breaks", e.g. Nastrond, Verflare, Bhavacakra, Bloodspiller, etc...

LB is not useful? Try getting out of 24 man and expert roulettes. EX trials and Savage/Ultimate is where good LB usage shines.

I could see everyone having separate Limit Breaks, like the Adrenaline in PvP, working inside regular dungeons and open world... But for Trials and Raids, the current system is much better.

It would be the healer's nightmare if that Limit Break bar fills up when the character takes damage, as it was on FF7/8 or trance bar on FF9.

It's true that healers and tanks don't often get to use limit breaks, but it's also true that healer and tanks have their own limit breaks, more so than DPS do. Every tank has a long-cooldown invincibility of some kind, and every healer has a long-cooldown "oh crap" button like Benediction. Those are your personal limit breaks.

That would be fun if each person got their own personal "super move" of sorts while still having the team LB.

Summoner literally has dreadwyrm trance that works exactly as you mention, giving access to unique abilities while under its effect.

I already have a supermove on a huge 7 minute cool down, it's called hallowed ground.


Ultimately I think the OP has good intentions with their request however in reality it doesn't add anything that isn't already in the game, without a complete rework of the LB system.

Perhaps if moves like hallowed ground, benediction, bahamut egi (I don't know the move) etc. were moved to the solo LB system I could maybe see something forming, but I really don't like this idea at all. Creating this kind of system would homogenise jobs, force all jobs to have a huge supermove rather than a smaller tighter kit, which is always activated the same way, and jobs that have their existing moved taken away to be moved to this new system would lose their identity.

Every. Job. Has. A super move.

They may not feel like Super Moves to you but they were capstone skills at 50/60/70:
Hallowed Ground, Perfect Balance, Flare, Benediction, Dragonfire Dive, Infuriate, Kassatsu. Most jobs even got a second super move at 70: Nastrond, Foul, Passage of Arms, etc. Powerful abilities on long cooldown. If that's not the definition of "Super Move" I don't know what is, or did you mean a totally other move on a separate gauge that's a different gauge than your job gauge? Cuz how about they move the skills i just mentioned and made a separate gauge, would that THEN fit your criteria of what's considered a super move?

DRG getting a LB like similar to one of Freyas attacks from IX. Yes, please.

using LB is a personal damage loss, why would you want to LB?

What do you consider "the wrong LB" or a "waste" though? I ask because it sounds like you expect the LB to be used by a melee DD on the boss, and while a melee LB on the final boss is prefered over an AoE LB on the final boss, saving the LB for a dungeon boss is rarely the best use for it.

When you say, "waste it on a mob," do you mean on a group of trash mobs? Because this is singularly the highest damage use of an LB. We have this discussion on the forums often. AoE LB1 with 2 targets does more damage than melee LB1, 4 targets does more damage than melee LB2, and 7 targets does more damage than melee LB3 -- note this is an AoE LB1 in all three cases. Which means if a caster or ranger can ever hit four or more targets with the LB in a dungeon, they should, as it's a higher damage usage than a melee LB2 on a boss (if the boss even survives to fill a second bar), and the party will probably get another LB1 on the boss anyway.

In re: "some LB's don't even cause damage at all.. (meaning they are weak)." is looking at the percentage of the HP bar, which is the wrong frame of reference. Regardless of how much hp% the LB does, it's still the same potency regardless of the boss's max HP, just like how all non-LB actions are still the same potency regardless of the boss's max HP, and the LB potency is still higher than one person's non-LB actions during the same period.


As Jonny and Fish have said, we all have epic personal actions and/or trancy-overdrivey types of actions already. The LB isn't meant to be a glorious moment for one person -- it's an epic cooperative moment, symbolized by the party cheering to channel their energy into a burst of solidarity.

With using the wrong LB I was referring to situations where a certain class activates the LB while theirs has no effect on the situation "or" the fact that it often gets activated when the bars are almost full (when they could have been full in a few sec) or activate it just before the boss.
People constantly make descissions that aren't in the best intrest of the party and there lies the problem.

As far as the weak dps LB damage goes, I set the boss HP to % in the options wich is why I express it that way. But you've got to admit that there have been plenty of situations where a DPS sets off an LB with all bars filled and the HP bar of the boss didn't even move.. that gives you an indication of the damage it does. I wouldn't put the LB damage above 1-5% in the best case (in the higher end dungeons), in lower end (beginner bosses) I'd say its about 4-10% on average.
I wouldn't call it epic if the one thing that puts "cooperation" over the edge is the one thing people usualy screw up, and minor dmg isn't epic either btw.

I would much rather like to see them use the gauge system more in 5.0 with that being more of a personal limit break. Example if the gauges doubled in 5.0 introduce a skill that cost the whole gauge for each job.

Reworking the LB for personal use outside of pvp would take alot of development time.

Just an off the cuff thought, but perhaps role based LB? Tanks goes up based damage taken / mitigated, DPS is self explanatory, Healers based on heals / time group HP is over a threshold, etc. Obviously not fleshing this out very much, but just a thought.

I have several idea's in my head that might be done but I'm not sure that if descides to implement something like this... Thaty they'll actualy use our idea since it might unbalance the game.
Therefor I suggest using a specific LB in the form of a skill that is equal to all classes. An LB skill that you can activate from the start of the duty and that cannot be activated again in the same dungeon once used (doesn't need to build up).
An enhancement LB wich adds to the strength of all your skills/spells (including the effects and the shared LB if its still unused) for lets say 15 seconds.

There are a few other possibilities but I think this would be one of the easiest to implement.

But then they would need to re-balance ALL content to account for this new buff. And then, once they do that, the net result will be the same difficulty as now--so that begs the question: what are we gaining by adding this? Also what dungeon is so difficult that this would even be necessary? You can already clear every dungeon WITHOUT Limit Break, so the Limit Break we have now already is just something to finish the boss off at 5-10% to lower the time it takes to clear.

If they did this they would remove lb3 most likely. Everyone would get lb2 on bosses only probably. Or we'd just have lb1 in full parties or bosses for balance.

In my eyes limit is something a group builds up together. Knowing when to use it is also part of working together as a group. Sometimes that is an 'Oh shit' button as a healer.

Also, using an LB poorly usually does not greatly impact a fight except in a few notable cases (tank LB for Bahamut/Alexander/Byakko), or melee LB to shave off a few% when progressing, etc. It makes almost no difference in dungeons or trials and it's simply bonus damage, or a free "retry" button (healer LB3).

That's the one change to the LB system, that I always wanted to see. I was disappointed when I discovered that every Melee DPS has the same LB animation, with only the Level 3 LB being unique. It's also really immersion breaking, for me as a Dragoon main, to pull a giant Buster Sword out of thin air.

I'd be down for a "trance mode" that either unlocks new abilities or enhances previous abilities like in FFIX.

As someone who hardly gets to see some of the cool lv3 Limit Breaks, I think it'd be cool.

Percentage is irrelevant. If the LB does 300k damage in 10s, that's still 30kdps, which is 5x-8x as much as anyone would have done in the same time period. It absolutely does not matter whether that 300k happens to be 5% or 0.5% of the boss's health, because the 50k-60k that the user would have done on his own in those ten seconds is even less of the boss's health bar.

Tank LB outside of a survivability mechanic and healer LB outside of a mass raise are wastes, and this should be something on which we can all agree.

Pre-empting the final bar is also bad, if a lower LB wouldn't have ended the fight anyway. If a lower LB will kill the boss, don't bother waiting for the last bar to fill.

But as for the last part, there are plenty of times that using the LB before the boss is the optimal choice. The bar empties upon engaging any raid boss, so a caster/ranger should pull with an LB during the countdown for the extra 40k-90k damage (use on trash before the boss if available; use on boss if residual LB from a wipe). In a dungeon, if the last pull has at least 4 mobs, using an AoE LB1 on that group will do more damage than a melee LB2 on the boss. If there are 7 or more mobs, using an AoE LB1 will do more damage than two melee LB2s.

I propose that the issue is actually that many people don't yet understand what is in the best interest of the party. This is what needs fixing. The system itself is fine.

The system is fine besides the fact that people will never ever care for what the party needs and therefor its faulted.
Nothing you can say will change that. And it needs to be fixed period.

right now LB is just used for speedkilling because LB generation is poorly balanced.

LB needs a change but this isnt it.

You're being incredibly dramatic. While the LB system really isn't "good", your suggestions/proposals and understanding of the system/mechanics are incredibly misguided.

So you're stating that "people" constantly make decisions that aren't in the best interests of the party. Why not cite some specific examples for context?
