Oh. I thought you were asking for an emote.
But yeah. This happens to me sometimes.
I imagine it's not just you, but after 4 years of playing a game I imagine most people would get disinterested.
No, it's hard to get motivated for me too. They relied a bit too much on Eureka this time around; if you don't care for it there's not much to do.
I just made an alt on another server to go through the MSQ again for fun. So far I'm almost to Heavensward. If you aren't doing Eureka (I'm avoiding it like the plague) there's really nothing to do.
I’m levelling jobs, so surprised with MCH!!
I put it off for so long being afraid with would be a pain/boring. MCH is actually very fun a later levels, very nice “heated” animations and for a support class you can do pretty good dps...
I recall reading the same thing for 2.0 and 3.0. Everyone has their own feelings and perceptions. Personally I'm enjoying myself at the moment, although I wish there was a way to play this portable.
I mean, it's not that the content is delayed, it's more that the patches have been so spaced out that it feels like we run out of stuff to do much faster IMO. There has always been a lul between stuff, but it has felt especially vacant for me this go around. I went from getting burned out in capping during experts, to doing eureka, and I don't wanna do expert anymore.
Had both been released at the same time I feel like the variety would have made it easier for me.
I'm still having fun, but like where as I use to feel fine doing stuff right up to the new patch, I feel like I focus on one thing so much that I never wanna go back to it after the initial release because it's all I had to focus on for a month.
It's complicated.
It's not just you OP. I feel the same way.
I do shit with my FC and that's about it, otherwise i play other games until 4.3, then do MSQ and what.. wait 2-4 weeks for next small patch to get a little more content and wait another 2-4 weeks for next...
I don't like SE splitting up it in chunks. Give all at once, i'm a big boy!
Plenty of others are feeling this; it's a fairly well-established fact at this point.
It's a direct result of FFXIV's formulaic development path. The more predictable the content, the less interested people become. Almost every single component of Stormblood - the only notable exceptions that come to mind are Eureka, Ultimate content, and the MSQ - is a nearly identical, higher-level-cap version of content from Heavensward. Considering that Ultimate content only appeals to a very small subset of the player base, and that Eureka's release was marred by a number of significant, not-yet-resolved flaws, there is an obvious problem. Compounding the problem still further is that significant quantities of Heavensward's content - including the vast majority of its combat-related content - were themselves nearly identical, higher-level-cap versions of content from ARR.
For people who enjoy leveling multiple jobs, this might not yet be a problem. For people who play infrequently, it's not much of a problem. For people who really sink into their MMOs, though, it's becoming a larger issue with every stale content cycle.
Still, that said, 4.3 looks promising. If SE manages to fix some of the most egregious issues in Eureka (the severe imbalance pushing people toward FATE training; the lack of an Elemental Level Sync to allow people to play with their friends; the lack of Magia Board syncing for FATE participation), that content is going to offer a more appealing, fresh-ish experience for a larger percentage of the player base. If the new Deep Dungeon offers creative gameplay that isn't just a repainted Palace of the Dead, that's going to offer a fresh experience for players. The reconstruction of the Doman Enclave, if handled appropriately, could offer a deep, new experience for those more inclined toward DoH / DoL jobs. There's definitely a lot of potential here, but on the other hand...
...SE has been known to spectacularly botch content in the past. It's equally likely that Eureka Pagos won't resolve any of the issues plaguing Eureka Anemos, that Heaven-on-High is a poorly-balanced rehash of PotD, and that the Doman Enclave reconstruction is essentially just a trivial high-level alternative to Grand Company turn-ins. In this scenario, the 4.3 update would likely speed up the exodus of gamers who are craving something new, something fresh.
Only time will tell.
Yus, twiddletwiddletwiddle.
Actually my all-battlejobs-70 main has been unsubbed for about two(?) months now because of the pile of poop known as Eureka. A week or two ago I noticed I still had an active sub on this long ago forgotten alt. I have zero interest in the MSQ, so I bought the story potion for ARR and have been doing the leveling part casually in a completely free kind of way. I'm 40-something now and the leveling process has been a very refreshing change as I progress and unlock stuff in an almost sandbox kind of way without the MSQ constantly blocking or funneling me. But after 50 I'll probably let this sub expire too unless something dramatic happens. I'm having too much fun in other MMO's.
I think many longtime MMO players feel the same as I do: once you've found the game you consider your home, you pretty much play for the social aspect of it. I still am catching up with content, but I don't feel rushed, nor feel disinterested. not saying this game is perfect, it's just like, if it seems there's nothing to do, some people in the FC need help with things and that keeps the game interesting. new content will arrive soon and the idea of wiping with friends is something to look forward to xD sometimes I log in just to take screenshots (/gpose is the real endgame) and chat, and I don't see that as a waste of sub. if iRL needs to be prioritized, take a break, then resub.
tldr; some of us just hang out in this game with friends and hardly get bored, not saying the game itself is too interesting to get boring
I'm playing Destiny 2 if that tells you my opinion on the current state of ffxiv's content.
I already felt like that near the end of Heavensward and most of Stormblood so far. When you have been playing the game for 4 years and the way SE develops their content it was bound to happen. The content cycle is basically the same each time, the only "new" thing they have added is Eureka (in it's current state which is just fate farm) and Ultimate (which is just old fights boosted up).
The only time I log into this game is basically for Raid (I use the word Raid lightly because it's just trial fights) and nothing else. That's why I'm not all that excited for the patch because it's things I have already seen before from Heavensward.
The fewer aspects of the game you enjoy, the sooner you'll lose interest in the few things left. Naturally, once you're at the end of any game, it's up to you to come up with ways to continue enjoying it, or move on to another.
that's how the content is designed. Yoshi doesn't want you playing this same game every day/week/month until a new expansion. They plan on having mid-hardcore players leave in lull periods between patches and come back when the patch hits. thats why 24 man raids exist, so they can get "catch-up" gear that they didnt feel bothered to get by grinding tomes.
I'm incredibly bored of the game right now. I'll be putting in some hours on Ultimate once it hits, but if its just another 18 minute dance, I'll be unsubbing until the last tier comes out.
I'm all for hard fights, I just don't have the time or energy to work on an 18 minute fight. Really they should be shorter.
FFXIV isn't boring because people are focused on relatively few aspects of the game. It's boring because SE has taken an insanely conservative, lazy approach in regards to content development, while monetizing the shit out of cosmetic content in an effort to make up for the subscription irregularity said approach has created.
Obviously the ultimate responsibility is on the player to move on to another game if they no longer enjoy FFXIV, but MMOs have multiple holds on people beyond the content itself - primarily attachment to one's character and a social component. SE is abusing this, knowingly or otherwise, via their approach to content generation. Case in point, if FFXIV were a series of single-player games (ARR, Heavensward, Stormblood), sales would be dipping significantly right now due to a lack of innovation. It's happened across literally every other franchise with such limited evolution from title to title.
You know, the more time passes, the more I look back at this statement as essentially an in-advance excuse for shitty development practices. It was a genius move, really: it was so unexpected that it sounded refreshing, sounded honest. But really, I have to ask, why on earth would FFXIV's director want you to not spend your money consistently on their product? And why would we view this as an acceptable thing? Call me crazy, but I want a company to work hard to earn my dollars every month; Yoshi-P essentially admitted they were going to half-ass it here and there.
As an aside, there's a difference between accounting for lull periods within the game structure and guaranteeing lull periods by almost exclusively focusing on lazy content re-skins. Using 24-person Raids as an example, I have no issue with where they fit into the reward structure of FFXIV. I do have an issue with the fact that fundamental dungeon mechanics (big concentrated boss fights; occasional large trash groups; split out alliances for a phase; have alliances handle individual regions of the battlefield) haven't advanced since the release of Labyrinth of the Ancients in December 2013. That's pathetic. Rabanastre in 2017 should not feel like a re-skin of content released nearly four years prior, even if it fills the same role in regards to current gear progression.
totaly agree with OP,thet game is really empty lately
I felt this for a while before essentially quitting the same. Stormblood is the only expansion I’ve ever let my sub drop. Even in 1.0 I think I played more often than I do now which says a lot about what the game has become.
The game has enough new people subbing that the developers don’t care about retaining old players or content longevity (because they know people will unsub mid-patch anyway). Hence why all content is generally short-lived, lacking in difficulty and put on a weekly lockout because of how easy it’d to be finish ‘farming’ without one
Most people I know are either taking a break or have quit altogether. I've only been logging on briefly over the past month or so - I've been holding off on getting all my DoW/DoM jobs to 70 because I'm saving that for Heaven-on-High...but that is due to be delayed for at least a month and won't be part of the initial batch of content going live with 4.3.
I've been playing other games. Including Fortnite (mostly to get the PvP fix that FFXIV no longer provides). I hoped Stormblood would shake things up more but so much content is lacking in longevity or does ends up revolving around the dreaded FATE system.
Add in the increase in optional transactions and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't becoming disillusioned with the direction of the game. WoW's upcoming expansion may hit the sub numbers pretty hard around the time it goes live, too - especially if this trend of bare bones content continues.
I've got enough stuff to do(ARR/HW relics, leveling crafters, furnishing my house, getting all the mounts I can -EX primal/PVP/tank, and getting the 10k - or more - Anemos crystals I will need to finish all the gear sets...) that I honestly don't feel that I am being pulled away by other things. Sure, new content would be nice, but I definitely always have something to do when I log in each day for the 3-4 hours I can.
Edit: Every few weeks I might take a day or two to play a different game, but I will still log in to deal with daily stuff - just not always the roulettes.
Bruh. I have a 10 day vacation coming up next week, was so stoked to be able to spend some time in ultimate
Except then I realized ultimate is being delayed for 2 weeks.. WTF
Before 4.2 I took a 2 week break, but this time around I've been lvling a lot more jobs so I haven't felt like needing a break. Might just take a few days break just so I don't burn out right when 4.3 drops.
It's funny to see the more the game grow in subs, the lower is the content. If they are receiving more money, then they should be increasing the game content?
A raid, a dungeon, story quests, trials, a plethora of side quests and daily quests as well as QOL changes with a deep dungeon and eureka coming 2 weeks later. Honestly I personally can't ask for more in a content patch. The issue isn't the quantity of content per patch because honestly its on par to other MMO content patches from this perspective. The issue is the quality and longevity of the content.
Raid once per week
Normal trial one and done
MSQ one and done
Side quests one and done
Deep Dungeon I've done 1 time ever
Eureka - yet to step foot in (I don't think I've even accepted the first quest to unlock it)
Daily quests - not that interesting
The only pieces of content worth running multiple times:
The extreme trial. 1-10 times depending on weapon drops.
Ultimate. 2 weeks late but better than nothing.
You personally may not be able to ask for more... Some of us.. The raid logging only continues.
Everything you mentioned has to do with quality and longevity. Content that will keep people interested and playing. Eureka is there, it is content. The crux is if it is content people can be interested in and continue playing. Deep Dungeon is there. Just because you've done 1 ever is irrelevant overall, what matters is if it is content that draws enough interest and keeps people playing. Dailies quests can be interesting, side quests are fine, they just need to be interesting.
You claim the only content worth running multiple times is EX trails and Ultimate. That is a very narrow opinion considering all that is being added and the scope of the player base. Others don't care for those at all and consider other content worth running multiple times.
What exactly are you asking for? Because more isn't really a solid option considering the amount already being given, quality and longevity in design however is.
Wasn't asking for anything really in particular. But if I had to pick anything it would just be being able to play the content more freely. For the last 2 months or so, all I've done, and like half the people in my static too, all we've done is raid log. Once a week for raid clears and that's it. I'd like to be able to run more freely with other people, help friends get their clears or just run more times for practice without screwing up people's loot drops. I'd like the 24-mans to NOT CHANGE TO ALL GREED. It needs a token system like the other raids because grinding for RNG's sake is a major turn off IMO. It's not fun. Eureka, it's just more of the same zerging fates/NMs until your eyes bleed, that lasts about 30 minutes before I get ready to fall asleep. People aren't even engaged in the content it's just netflix and chill.
So yea, if you want to point to quality over quantity then it's fair. I simply wanted to point out there is a lot more we could ask for.
