Your Favourite Dungeon

What is your favourite dungeon based on the environment, the atmosphere and the background music?

My favourite dungeon is Saint Mocianne's Arboretum. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the music - so soothing and relaxing, and I'm partial to environments reminiscent of an enchanted wood or magical forest.

Additionally, the juxtaposition of the remnants of civilisation with all the decay evokes a strange yet profound sadness and loneliness; it puts one in a pensive mood.

I remember, back in Heavensward, doing my expert roulette at night before bed and hoping to get this dungeon to help me wind down. When I did get this dungeon, I would switch off all the lights in my room for maximum immersion and relaxation. :)

I like the one that has 3 bosses in it o/

For reals though, I really like The mechanics in Temple of Qarn normal. The boss mechanics are eh, but I'd really like to see DUNGEON MECHANICS in the future

Shisui of the Violet tide is my favorite dungeon though. The whole underwater/japan theme is FANTASTIC....Kind of a shame that it's a leveling dungeon cause I wouldn't mind having it in expert for a while.


If it wasn't for this though, Anti Tower is a VEEEERY close second. Cant get enough for the surreal feeling and the stunningly amazing music!

Praetorium tbh.

Pharos Sirius. I really enjoy both. I prefer the lv 60 one. by a small margin.

Shisui of the Violet Tides surprisingly. There's something about the layout and theme that I really love. I used to run that dungeon a lot when I was leveling to 70 because it was so straightforward and easier than the later SB dungeons.

Gubal HM. :) From the music to the whole environment.

Antitower, and it's 100% because of the music and David Bowie references.

Sohm Al Hard. The background music fits well with going through volcanic dungeons and gets me super pumped and so I try even harder to boost my performance. And I always feel awesome as volcanic rock is falling all around me.

Hell's lid also captures this but the music isn't as good (close though!)

That is a hard one... See, I enjoy so many dungeons that it's excessively hard for me to decide on ANY favorite... Er.... Gonna say toss-up between Drowned City of Skalla, Fractal Hard, and Hells' Lid.

They all have their charms in different ways, but my current top favorite is Bardam's Mettle. The outdoor aesthetic combined with THAT MUSIC <3 I was won over from the first time I went in.

I'd agree that Saint Mocianne's Arboretum is the prettiest dungeon, but the bosses left me cold initially so I enjoyed the view rather than the play :)

Haukke Manor from ARR. I thought the atmosphere of that mansion is great.

Great Gubal Library Hard from HW. I love the music from this one and I wish this had become the viable option for farming tomes sooner. I would absolutely prefer this over *blargh* ARF

And Kugane castle from SB so far. I love the music there since I re watched the sb job action video quite a number of times due to the music and when I found out it's the same one from Kugane castle I was beyond excited. The dungeon flowed nicely too which is a nice bonus.

As far as music goes, it would be Xelphatol. I was instantly hooked with that remixed version of the Ehcatl song.

As far as the aesthetics goes, The Anti-Tower or The Lost City of Amdapor. My absolute #1 instance is World of Darkness. My favorite Trial aesthetically is Ramuh, Thordan & Ifrit.

The Vault, mechanically is among my favorites.
Aethetically, Kugane Castle.
Musically, Pharos Sirius normal.

There's quite a few to like.

Lost City of Amdapor normal. I love its bleak and depressing tone with that sombre piano in the background.

Do raids count? If so then Rabanastre. The Waterways section is the best part. I love feeling small among all the giant pillars and aquaducts and it just goes on for as far as you can see. I'm a little disappointed you don't spend much time there.

Copperbell mines. While being a cut version of 1.0 version, it still feels like a proper dungeon.

Sohr Khai without a doubt. It really captures the fantasy feel.

I love the music in Stone Vigil Hard. How it's kind of low quality radio sounding when your running around then kicks into full high q when you start fighting. Pretty sweet. That cannon part is annoying as hell tho.

Ok, I'll be the one person who likes Snowcloak.

The music reminds me a bit of the music from the snow area in Sonic Adventure so I instantly fell in love...

Hard to pick really. Saint Mocianne's Arboretum, Sohr Khai, Antitower, Xelphatol, Pharos Sirius, Hell's Lid, Great Gubal Library, The Vault, Amdapor Hard, Snowcloak and Brayflox's Longstop come to mind for various reasons. If there's one thing this game does amazingly well it's presentation so it's really hard to pick.

I can almost guarantee I'm going to be alone on this, but Aurum Vale. It's not necessarily the environment or the mechanics that won me over, but the fact that it was the dungeon that made me realize that I could be a good tank. It's kind of a skill check for new players. Had a hard time clearing it way back in 2.0 when I started, but I got my sh*t straight and cleared it; it's been my favorite ever since.

I also love Sohr Khai Normal a lot, it's just really aesthetically pleasing and that last boss is pretty epic. I actually like the Aery too for it's variation of the Churning Mists theme, the overall feel of the environment, and getting to help Estinien in the last boss.

None really.. ffxiv dungeons are so easy they are a bore, especially level 70 one's

Can't wait for the really hard one's if we get any

It was challenging, bosses required you to think, I know it was a vestige from 1.0 and I think that's partly why I like it.

the aery. bc i'm biased af and it was such a pivotal moment for me in the story and my feeling absolutely ecstatic estinien finally killed nidhogg... gives me feels.

some part of me is holding out for an aery hm ;__;

The Aurum Vale.
Probably the ultimate awareness test.

It's seriously an easy and quick dungeon to a group that knows the dungeon.
For those that don't take any care about their surroundings the pulls aren't going to be easy on them.

This is an excellent step before hitting 50 where the dungeon meta drastically changes. Large pulls, high mob damage, etc.
We need more dungeons like AV. I kinda wish it still had the poison air from 1.0. Getting "Breathless" was the most fun I had.

People who complain about the dungeon, people who leave the dungeon as soon as they see it from their roulette, well...

Out of the ones I've done so far (Which admittedly is limited):

Probably a tie between Haukke Manor (just love the atmosphere)

Or The Vault (From a mechanics standpoint, and atmosphere).

It's so hard to choose just one. So here's my list:

Does steps of faith count or would that not count cause its a trial? If it doesn't count then I'd probably say any allagan dungeon. Most dungeons aren't fun/memorable enough to stick on my head.

Pharos Sirius

It's a beautiful dungeon and the music is great, but the main reason i like it so much is the flashback back to 2.1 everytime i enter that dungeon. nostalgia of a proper executed difficult 4 man content without relying on 1 shot mechanics. it CAN be done, Pharos Sirius was the proof! :O

Hmmmm... I generally prefer the ARR dungeons... especially the ones that branch off and you can actually explore... not like the hallway dungeons we got now... Tam Tara HM is great... the story... the mechanics the whole feel and music all fit...

The original Pharos Sirius was my favorite dungeon in ARR. The aesthetic, the BGM, and the difficulty (pre-nerf) were all perfect. While I wish that they kept the difficulty of Pharos as the gold standard, I can definitely understand why they didn't. If half the people who DF it leave as soon as they enter, well, that doesn't make for an enjoyable time for anyone.

As far as Heavensward, that honor goes to Baelsar's Wall, although there are a lot of good choices here. I love the music, the progression, the fights themselves, and, well, the final boss is none too sloppy, haha!

In Stormblood... Hmm... It's a toss-up between Castrum Abania and Ala Mhigo. The music and fights are great in both of them, but I'd have to give the edge to Ala Mhigo. While I'm not a huge fan of the second boss, the presentation of the dungeon and everything going on in the background outshines any complaints.

Halatali Hard. It's more better looking than it's normal counterpart, fun and simple in design, and the dungeon feels pretty rewarding back when it was in Expert Roulette during patch 2.2.

My favorite dungeon huh....at first, it always had to do with just the OST that went along with it such as Wanderer's Palace (HM) and Sohm Al, quite possibly two of my most favorite dungeon tracks. I kind of felt that background music made certain places much more bearable no matter how many times that you may have had to run through them over and over again.

But, I have to say, the general atmosphere, location, and song goes to Shishui of the Violent Tides. I really wish we have an underwater city of the Ruby Princess palace...because Tamamizu and the Raen village are rather boring to look at in my opinion.

Stone Vigil (normal; HM is awful).

Most jobs have enough of their skills to do the dungeon well (no Holy though sadly). Stuff hits hard and mob variety is solid. You've got the heavy autos from the ice sprites, high crits from the dragonflies, aoes and roamers in the dragon aevis mobs. You can skip a lot of mobs, but it's not easy. Can even LOS the last boss and take almost no damage from him.

There's a lot of variety in how you can handle each pull, boss, and your cooldown rotation. It's the first dungeon that can really hit hard outside of tank stance.

I just wish we could scale it up to Level 70, and the bosses were harder.

Sohm Al HM was good too. Wish the bosses hit harder.

That's my general complaint. Dungeon bosses don't really do anything most of the time. You've got a perfect, low-stress environment, that a lot of players will run over and over. We have a lot of mechanics in the game that we don't use, and when they finally show up in savage, players haven't seen them before. If they want dungeons to remain casual, entrylevel content, then they need to design them in a way that teaches players mechanics.

The Lost City of Amdapor, both versions. I just can't describe the feeling I get when I'm in them. I still squeeee when they pop up in my roulettes. And I type it/say it too, just so my party is aware. I love the bleakness of it I guess. I love overcast (I'm pale so the sun is not my friend), and the atmosphere and music just convey that so well.
