Try getting everything to Lv 99.

I've seen a lot of people displeased about how easy it is to grind battle classes to 50.
I can understand that, and we'll leave out the fact that crafting is not exactly the same speed. I do wish to point out however (yes, in its own topic ^_^), that yoshi has made very clear for some time now that he believes in a gradual increase of the level cap.

Should this game succeed in the long term, the max level will one day be Level 99 in all battle classes, gathering classes, and crafting classes.

FFXI spent a very long time at the 75 cap, and though this changed recently, it was for a very long time the effective 99. In that game, it was very easy to get ANYTHING to level 37, and really, for the most part, level 50 as well.

I think this is good for an MMO, for any casual player to be able to get a variety of abilities to at least a mid range level easily. Level 50 is end game now, and it is a good thing that most content for ourselves playing 1.2 is geared towards that level range.
...but it's a long way from 50-99. also, if it took forever just to get to 50, then the PS3 players would have a damn difficult time getting anything up to speed with the rest of us who are playing now and don't reroll.

Just sayin.

Edit: ohhh, I see now, the forum QQ of the moment is about how it's too easy to level in this game and how a "bonus exp" feature makes it intolerably easy.

well considering a lot of people have all jobs lvl 99 in ffxi now i dont see it being that hard if this game remains on the same pace its on. They ruined 11 and they are going to ruin this game also.

So what about ps3 players? We had to catch up to jp players when ffxi released over here..

You're forgetting that they revamped the leveling curve at least once, possibly more I don't remember, as the level cap got higher and higher. So even in it's early days, getting lv50 or 60 (when those were the lv caps) took much longer than just a few days.

I'm going to repeat what I posted in the rested exp thread. The journey to 50 is pretty fast even for 2 sisters duoing guildleves for a couple of hours twice a week.

I am really hoping that in 2.0 level 50 is the new level 1 and that the experience curve starting at 50 is much steeper. I also hope there will be lots of content available all levels.

maybe we should take out exp chains and add surplus back in the game since people are saying its too easy to max out to lv50.

imo, the first 50 lvls or so should be not take forever to get to since most of the real content starts at 50, even when they do decide to increase the cap.

I get what you are saying, but at a sidenote, this is not true. Yoshi allready stated that you only will be able to master 1 Craftingclass.

1-50 is supposed to be a basic experience that allows you to gradually learn skills, your class, and your job as you progress. The idea is you will be able have all the knowledge necessary to perform the tasks involved in whatever is at the end of the road. When you get to cap, there is supposed to be another form of progression, typically called 'end-game'.

FFXI had a lot of endgame content, but did not raise the level cap for a very long period of time. However, there are two issues with this. As time goes on, more and more players will gradually move up to the higher tier of content. As you move into this upper eschelon, there is very little reason to do past content. So, the population becomes focussed into progressing higher and higher, leaving a smaller population of players available to attempt the entry level content. The type of content and the rewards that are offered are also adjusted for this very reason. There needs to be people available to do the entry level content. So, it almost becomes necessary to make all the rewards from old and new content, relatively equal in value. Rather then building up as you attempt new encounters, it's merely a shuffling from side to side obtaining side-grade rewards.

Raising the level cap is one way to bring all the players back to start again from entry level content to more difficult content. However, a problem with this is typically the content, compared with the old level cap's, is relatively equal in difficulty save perhaps the very last encounter reserved for those who race to the finish. But there is no real advancing of the gameplay and no advancing in difficulty when this gimmick is imposed.

However, there is a very simple solution for much of these issues and FFXIV is more capable than most MMOs to overcome them. Gear is predominately acquired from other players through currency transactions, while other MMOs are rewards to actual tasks. So, it would not be surprising to introduce higher quality crafted equipment for the newer players to purchase, thus allowing them to bypass older content and catch up with the rest of the community. In this way, you can have an actual advancing in difficulty and gameplay with each encounter, and still reward drastically better gear each patch. As long as there is crafted equipment available sufficient enough to attempt whatever the entry level content is at that time, there is absolutely no need to raise level caps. Even skills, as we have seen with jobs, can be introduced by more interesting methods such as quests.

Back then, that was okay. MMOs were designed for a specific type of gamer that doesn't exist any more. Gone is the generation that would have enjoyed a long slow grind for the sake of grinding.

SE conceptualized XIV as a game for everyone else. It's the only reason to make another MMO these days -- if you're going to design it to capture a broader audience.

There's nothing wrong with a lighter leveling curve as long as the developer follows through on a richer endgame experience.

For most people, leveling just isn't fun. Even for most old school FF fans, leveling was always something incidental that happened along the way.

I'm glad it doesn't take a year(or however long it usually takes a grind fest mmo) to reach max level, now when many of my friends join the game once it's outta this development stage won't take ages just to be able to play with them all. In my opinion this wanting a long grind(giggity) is archaic. Many recent mmos are moving away from it, and it doesn't make them a wow clone for doing so, but getting with the times. In short, long live the short grind. :)

In XI 1-50 was at a very gradual rate of increased xp to lvl up to your next lvl. Then at some point it jumps way up and takes much longer per level, I'm sure they'll do something very similar to XIV to give us more content in the future.

One month is about how long it took to get a your first 50 in FFXIV when it first launched too. The leveling curve was fine if you ask me. The problem though, was that there was NOTHING to do except grinding, which lead to some very bored and agitated players.

In my eyes, each class you cap should be an achievement in its own right. I'd much rather have a long leveling curve with a ton of things to do as you level up than a short leveling curve where the only content in the game is at the cap. Again, that's is just my opinion. Unfortunately, FFXIV is taking the latter direction. It's the classic journey vs destination argument all over again.

I wouldn't say that today's MMO crowd is more interested in getting capped level as fast as possible. People just don't want to notice the grind, and that's fine. That's exactly where FFXIV screwed up and it's exactly why we have this "3 day to cap" leveling curve. For SE, it was much easier to just adjust the rate that experience is gained and just push people to the cap as quickly as possible. That way they can focus 80% of their efforts in creating endgame content instead of fleshing out the content for all levels.

Personally, I'm hoping it's just a temporary measure considering the amount of work they're doing to remake the entire game. If it was me, I would have done the same. Hopefully 2.0 will see a steeper leveling curve, but with much more things to do while you grind. For me it'll already be too late as I really don't wish to create a new character from scratch. For new players however, I'm fairly sure they would rather have fun and enjoy their journey to the level cap instead of having to reach that cap before they can begin to enjoy the game.

Bf and I are having a hell of a hard time trying to get to 30 and beyond, we only play for a few hours once or twice a week though.. and only do leves. I dont understand how people find the rate of exp intollerably easy? Maybe we just suck lol

I didn't know FFXIV: Visons / Scars / Heroes of Abyssea was due to be released soon...

FFXI's level curve went up sharply at 60, and sharper still at 70. Abyssea is what killed that game, with people going in at 30, afk'ing for a few hours with alliances slaughtering the same crowds of monsters for exp that scaled upward depending on lights achieved / spamming Dominion Ops pages for 2-5k free experience every 5 monsters for doing absolutely nothing and coming out at 75/80/85/90/95/99. FFXIV is no way near that, and an Abyssea clone is not happening on this game. The devs pay a hell of a lot more attention to the gripes and worries of the playerbase here than what XI's do.

Before that, the main complaint was people syncing to low levels (usually 55ish Colibri parties in Wajoam, though some preferred 37ish parties at Ronfaure [S] on Colibri) at 70+ish to get exp cheaply and quickly. Or spamming Campaign ops. Again, it's not happening on this game. No level sync.

Why do people keep complaining that leveling is "SOOO EASY" do you really need leveling to feel like some kind of weird accomplishment and be a speshul snowflake?...

It is much better how it is imo...leveling gets boring and mundane. End game is where its at. Give me some end game content that can last a long time.

Why do you just want "end game" stuff, I think the middle stuff can be just as fun or better than end game.

No one ever asked me this before :o Well..I like end game because I get access to all my abilities. I like doing really challenging stuff with my friends (To me leveling is easy, just kill mobs over and over, which is fine) and trying to obtain hard to get armor is fun for me..gives me something more to do. I also love the monsters. Like Fafnir, Aspi, Behemoth...fighting those things are fun to me. My BF and couple of my friends like to low man stuff :)

I guess in the end you could say I like end game because it presents a challenge to me and it holds my attention more then leveling. Don't get me wrong though when I level I can level for 10+ hrs lol. Just that end game is more exciting :) I prefer my content really difficult...the harder the better...er...yeah..>.>

They could have designed their game to take 10 years to reach level cap with various events and activities littered throughout the level range. They also could have had no levels and focused solely events and end game style content.

SE chose a short leveling experience and plans to load endgame with content.

You've made it quite clear -- with your litany of posts today along -- that you are not happy with this design choice. There are, however, plenty of people who are. There are plenty of game out there that already cater to your desired play style.

They are fixing the barn door after the horses left.

They have given us the fast-track to level fifty and now they are about to add the level cap to some of the dungeons. It's sorta funny.

So anyway, there is your mid-level content.

i have been playing ToR the last 10 days or so.
I wanted to expand my MMO knowledge a bit more and quench some of the waiting for 2.0
it is an example of (as other posters in this topic have mentioned) a content filled progression.
in fact, there really isn't very much 'end game' content in TOR yet, at least in comparison to the journey 'to' end game.
I'm not going to start dissecting the pros and cons of ToR though.

i suspect that FFXIV is heading in a similar direction. It has been mentioned by the devs that a 'significant number of new dungeons' will be appearing in 2.0 and i imagine the currently existing ones will be transferred over somehow. Also, as the various information points out, the new zones seemingly (and logically) will not be as empty as the zones we have now. i think it is a fair conclusion that SE will add 2 or 3 new class/job combinations at the launch, so that even a player with all DoW classes can start from level 1 on something without re-rolling. Chances are those will also not be the last additions.

I think it is certain that FFXIV is moving away from the 'stationary camp grind' system of FFXI and going with the 'movement' system. As in levelling up through dungeons and quests that have a beginning, middle and end. Personally, i much prefer this. i enjoyed FFXI, but i've had my fill of that. This is good with me now. :)

When it comes to the speed of the curve, i do think there is a very real issue that would face any MMO with 'obsolete content', however, i lean towards less times through the same dungeon before the next dungeon = better. I don't mind playing an awesome dungeon a dozen times if i want. In terms of the curve however, i also want to progress to the next dungeon and be at the proper strength level for that dungeon after a couple or three play throughs at most if i choose to.

In short, i am happy with the direction of this game.
