Moogle Coins - What might they be used for in the future?

The new App rewards everyone with Kupo nuts for logging in; this limits the number of times you can access the Market Board.
However, they are also releasing Moogle Coins which can be bought for cash and will allow you to bypass the limit.

Moogle Coins can do the following on release:
- Put items up for sale or revise an item's listing.
- Purchase items

We also learned this, "additional services for use with moogle coins will be added in the future based on user feedback".

I don't have a lot of experience with FtP games and none with a currency like this but I've seen examples of coins in other games being used to make things like Ventures or Squad Missions take less time, or give increased rewards.

So, what 'additional services' do you think they might be thinking of adding to FFXIV and how would you feel about them?

Increase damage done,

Increases HP points,

The list is endless really.

Honestly nothing good can come from the coins and you need the nuts not the coins to do that stuff the coins just give you more opportunitys from what i understand honestly its not very well explained from what ive seen so time will tell

I could imagine these happening, some of the others would be game-breaking.
Allowing you to train the choco could be possible too.

So, you interpreted it as you'll still need a Kupo nut to access the market board and the coin just gives you more opportunities to list items, buy or adjust prices?
That wouldn't be as bad as the coin being basically a Kupo Nut you buy with cash. However, it's hard to know which interpretation is right. I agree, they really didn't explain it very well at all (in English at least).

Look like something really bad.

If I had to guess, maybe ventures. Can't see them being used for anything else tho. I do love Fhaerrons immediate jump to rediculous though.

Moogle Coins will most likely be used in the following.

Squadron,

Maybe watering plants

Maybe setting up a partyfinder that is set for a certain time like 7pm+ looking for members for X content deal so players using the app can join in and log on to meet up without having to first log on and wait.

maybe being able to play the daily cactpot/getting tickets for the megacactpot.

Triple Triad Tournament.(This one is a huge maybe)

Purchasing NPC items without having to go to location 1 coin=99 max or 1 piece of equipment which could be useful when a player doesn't want to teleport back and forth when crafting something specific or while using FC workshop.

Submarine/Airship usage. Being able to send them out and claim rewards without having to log in.

These are the most likely features that will be implemented with coins.

Maybe they get used as duty tokens one day to bypass the DPS DF queue?

FastPass for DPS.

Garden tending is an obvious one for these, because it applies to something they can find on your account (homes you have access to), and it's time sensitive. I can buy something on the AH when I get on in three days, but if I'm not on for three days that will kill whatever I'm trying to garden.

Aside from that, Moogle Ventures where they come back with boost items like in every other P2W game. Because that's exactly what this kupo nut/kupo coin system is set up for. It perfectly mirrors P2W systems in other games, even if they're not specifically using it for that yet.

i did on french forum a troll topic where i suggest a premium sub for the forum, to go thru the 1000 character limit or post per day limit.
Maybe, with mogcoins we could do it. 1 mog coin = 1 post with more than 1000 character without edit!

Part of me wants to say "No, never. As a pro-sub, anti-cash shop person I can't possibly ever support monetization for forums"
Then the part of me that hates having to edit my posts, or hates the days where I'm seeing a lot of good topics and I type out a reply only to get that "you've reached the limit" post afterwards (because of course they don't show you the message upon hitting the reply button immediately so you don't have to waste timing writing up the reply in the first place).....well that part of me is like "well.....what's the price?"

Gil can buy you a clear for any content in the entire game. Not sure why people keep saying gil does nothing in this game. If you have enough of it, it can literally do anything. And the market board is the primary way to amass substantial amounts of gil.

Mounts and glamour items would be an obvious choice. Just make them cost a certain number of kupo nuts so someone would have to log in to the app every day for like a month to get an item, maybe make it just enough that it's over the free user cap and long enough that a paid user is going to impulse buy it anyway. The garden tending would be nice if it just tended everything at once, although if they did that they had better add a whole garden tending function in game as well.

Housing Plot purchasing. Don't want to stay up at ungodly hours of the morning waiting after the next patch for the next Housing Savage? Pay for Moogle Coins so your army of moogles can camp open plots for you. They'll automatically be ahead in a queue. All you have to do is set preferred gil limits and the housing area size/location preference.

Wouldn't be surprised if Moogle Coins could be used for Mogstation items too. That's about the only good I foresee coming from them.

AFAIK from what was translated and have read, the nuts/coins are purely for listing and buying. Where are people getting this idea that they stack and give you items instead of having to use Gil?

If those godforsaken things ever do make it into the main game, could easily seem them being used for:

• Resetting weekly lockouts
• Need rolls
• Priority listing on MB
• HQ item upgrade

Unlock even more retainers (but you'll still need to pay for them).

They could implement a system where logging in gives you exp that you can give to your character. Coins could then be used to double this exp.
They could implement a system where you can send your character on missions that make it so you can't play the game for x amount of time until you return. Then they could make coins have you return faster.

Could be used to make your retainers come back from ventures faster.

They could implement a system with an 'app exclusive class' in which only 'premium members' can use but you still need to pay coins to unlock it.
They could implement a system with 'app exclusive quests' in which only 'premium members' get access to the quests, but you still need to pay coins to unlock them.
They could implement a system where you can mine resources in the app but only for 'premium members' but you still need to pay coins to unlock that feature.
They could let you manage your grand company garrison missions and add more for 'premium members only' but you still need to pay coins to unlock it.
They could implement 'app exclusive cosmetics' in which only 'premium members' get access to them, but you still need to pay coins to unlock them.
They could implement a system where you pay the moogles to off a player IRL, but you still need to pay coins to unlock them. (satire)
They could implement a system where you get the latest live letters translated for 'premium members' , but you still need to pay coins to unlock them and it's just a link to their twitter account.
They could implement a system where you...at this point I can only think of horribly horrible things that are way too obviously satire.

Sure it was hyperbole, but is there a reason you attack people being critical of what is SE is doing? Or did you just miss the point of the post completely?

But ya they can use it as a fast lane for queues, bypassing housing lockout, having special housing wards gated by this, bypass the 45 auto demo, speed up retainer ventures, extra ventures, bypassing the allowance on the 4 limit of sending out airships/subs, Buying buffs that act like grade 3 housing buffs, maybe even having grade 4, access to access to premium duties, resetting weekly and daily stuff, buying extra posts here, the list goes on, that is the fear, people do not know how far SE is willing to push down the slippery slope.

Basically this thread was made because they said they where planning to have coins buy more things, but basing it on feedback. Past that I do not get what your asking.

'Additional services', the whole new letter of the producer reeks of pay 2 win and then when they say 'additional services' in the future I can see this happening.

Thanks for all the replies. The more I think about this the less I like it (and I didn't like it in the first place).

I'd definitely expect them to include ventures and maybe add 'special' Ventures only available with the currency (that's not lockboxes no, nothing like them /s)
Pay to reduce venture times? Possible
Tedious stuff like watering the gardens very probable (forget getting a 'water all' option in-game Dusty; they'll want to keep it annoying so we'll pay to bypass it)
Choco training - I'd say this one is a definite
Squadron management definitely - 'special missions'? possible - pay to cut mission time? possible
Airships and Submarines possible
Exclusive glams and other items? Also possible
Move items between different characters on your account? possible

Gameplay
What about Levelling? It does get tedious when you are out of quests and levelling another class. Don't want to splash out for a full skip potion? How about purchasable XP buffs? I could see that becoming a thing.
Luck Potions that give you a chances to get more gil or loot? possible

As people have said, the list is endless, and while none of these would be game-breaking on their own, they would definitely have an impact.
My main worry is that a lot of the quality of life improvements we have asked for might now be implemented, but locked behind a paywall.
They have already done this with storage and additional characters, now they have the App to make both payment and impulse buying easy.

I think they'll test the waters with the App and if enough people are happy to pay for extras, then we will see a definite creep in the number of things on offer. A few at first but as time goes on, more and more (similar to the Cash Shop). It also means they will have less incentive to address any issues in the game for 'free'.

This is very similar to the pricing in some FTP games, only in our case the sub is not optional.

I assume you're asking for evidence.
Besides the quote in the OP that they will be adding things that can be purchased with the new currency there is no evidence.
That's the whole point of the thread - nothing has happened yet

However they will be adding additional items for purchase, that's not speculation, that was up on the screen in writing.
Which is why I asked people what they thought those items would be and how they'd feel about this. The devs are looking for feedback, this is an opportunity to give them that.

They did say that they where looking to expand it in the future and use it for other ... 'things'.

Clearly they will be used on mog vending machines in game. Mog cola, Mog beer, Mog coffee, etc... Gotta get bae the fuzzy mog out of the claw machine! Next will be the mog arcade and mogiocart racing through eorzia.

This post makes about the same amount of sense as this new currency btw.

I don't get what the app should have to do with that, they didn't need one to bring jump potions.

The nuts will be used to do certain actions without logging in. That's it.

Any general boost usable while actually logged in will just be sold by mogstation like they do now. Why should they narrow their target audience for 'damage boosts' or 'extended housing' by only seeling it to app users?



I'm not saying they will never implement such p2w elements. I'm just saying they won't tie it to app and kupo-nuts, but just to mogstation and real money.

Because the mog station is clunky and wholly impractical for that sort of system. A phone app can quickly send a push notification if it sees you wipe on a fight 3 times and offer an immediate booster by just deducting 3 kupo nuts from your account, and also offering a recharge (or premium currency) if you happen to be out at the time. The mog station can do nothing like that.

This thing perfectly mirrors the currency structure of P2W games. That is almost certainly not a coincidence.

With the exchange rate of 1 moogle coin = 1 crysta

Secondary currency for Mog station optional items, probably those dyes.

I felt this was relevant.

the moogle coins will be used to get a higher chance for rare items from retainer ventures. exclusive minions will be locked behind it (but they are sellable on the market board).

also you will get twice as many items from normal ventures, when you pay with a coin.

they will also be used to "shorten" the time of the 18 hour exploration tours. since nobody want to wait anyhow, the retainer will simply do 2 explarations at the same time in the 18 hours.

you can get a 24 hour VIP access for an specific item. whenever your desired item is listed on the market board, nobody else can buy it (except other people with VIP access) for a short time duration and you will get a notification on your app.

when you have a house and have placed a retainer in the garden, it can water the flowers (okay, pure fantasy, even if you have to pay for that, SE will never manage to bring that to work xD).

an automatic undercut function for a limited time.
