I'd love a series of quests to learn all the race specific dances. I don't understand lore-wise why you couldn't learn a dance. I do understand that since people like race specific stuff tho, this is just my two cents.

I would totally love this if it were presented as content, like a study in cultural anthropology. You would have to talk to a representatives of each race and learn the lore behind each dance. Maybe you'd have to observe other players performing the dances.
Male Midlanders should be able to...

...when they initiate a dance near another Midlander
I would love this. Would be a great way to incorporate more lore into the game.
Honestly, I'd prefer they keep them race specific. Why must everything be unlocked?
My only concern is how would an Elezen look performing the Lalafell dances which rely on having 45% of your body actually be your butt.
NM it'll be hilarious, sign me up. Just keep the line of text when you perform it different, just to keep it a bit different.
It'd be fun to learn em from NPC's of different races, and fun > pointless exclusivity in my opinion
I'm up for almost anything if it means more lore and dances. Might be strange to say this but I want more text-heavy sidequests that expand the world. Getting a new dance for finishing them is just icing on the cake.
Most of all, I want to know more about my character's own clan- there's not much out there for Keepers.
Lets just have one race and make them all the same.
I'd rather SE do more to differentiate the physical features than introduce more arbitrary gear/action locks. More varied ear/tail/horn combos, more scale pattern options (maybe even an option to be more scales than skin... the female lizards tend to be too far to the "cute" side for my tastes at least), more height/build options...
I feel like saying "you can't have this because you didn't roll x" is a cheap way to gate things. True variety comes from players choosing between many options to customize their characters right down to the idle pose they use, not by forcing restrictions based on race and gender.
Then we also shouldn't be allowed to use the beast tribe dances. Or the harvest dance, as that's specifically a Gridanian dance and we're an outsider, same with the Ball Dance, Step Dance, and we definitely shouldn't be able to use the Eastern and Thavnairian Dances.
OP isn't saying "Remove these as cultural aspects of the races", they're saying "Let us get access to the other dances via quests that teach us about the lore of the races". Which, funnily enough, would make each race more unique.
And regarding the dances in the first place (if they did add quests to get them), I think the quests for them should give them as persistent versions of the dances, just to add to the reward. That and I'd love to have a persistent version of the dance I get as my fem Au'ra.
No, it would make races less unique. You are talking about uniqueness of individuals. The whole point of this request is to get access to something only one race has access to atm and to reduce the uniqueness of that race.
I would like more race exclusive gear, hair, physical features and emotes. The devs are taking the lazy route by designing 1 thing everyone can use instead of designing 6 things only one race can use.
To each their own I suppose, I just feel that exclusivity outside of a few rare cases just hurts glamour and customization for next to no reason. Hairs, dances, hempen and starter gears should be made available for all races because there's no good reason lore or otherwise for them to be exclusive.
The lore behind the Elezen male dance is "I don't want to do this grooooan" and everyone else is "I'm that one person at the party who can't dance BUT I AM TRYING REALLY HARD OKAY"
Except for Au Ra, they can actually dance.
Hahaha that is exactly what it is! I have a male Elezen alt because I liked the character design, but their default personality-via-emotes is so "I'm too cool for this". (Slow sarcastic /clap emote especially.) I'd like to see him be more... enthusiastic isn't quite the right word, still a quiet personality, but warmer.
i kind of like that each race has a few things that are unique to them
No....
What we need is new race-locked dances. If the first dance is too cute or not too cute the second dance should be the opposite or something like that.
Race locked almost anything is bad.
I love my elezen dance. It's so... unenthusiastic. Made all the more hilarious after my first dance quest in Ul'Dah, wherein the NPCs were utterly enthralled by my shuffling.

I'm not in favor of cultural appropriation.
You mean the au ra females. The guy's do a highly white guy don't know how to dance type of dance. I would love to have quests to do other race's dances. There are times where I just want to do the cat girl dance on my au ra because I just want to happily spin around like that.
It actually does - For example, only Miqo'te an Au Ra have tails, therefore any movements that require the tail would naturally be exclusive and other people not being able to do them makes sense. Similar goes for tail ornaments.
Considering how extremely homogenized our races are in terms of appearance, you'll just be hard pressed to name many examples of that. We don't have races with hooves or snouts that would require specific gear, nor something like undead that might take off their head and juggle with it. None of our races is able to breathe fire for a little lightshow emote either. There's very little that physically distinguishes the races and as such, race locks just plain don't make sense.
What does make some sense is that you'd first need to learn/earn it and I'd take that as inspiration to delve deeper into the lore of the races via sidequest lines that unlock the stuff in a similar way as we do with the Beast Tribes.
We need more racial stuff not less.
I'm all for being able to learn the dances through a quest(and probably a quick time event mini-instance). Though it isn't really all that high on the "things I would like" list, it would be interesting to be able to do something like that.
I have no idea why people get so upset about stuff like this. If I wanted to learn how to riverdance I would go take a lesson. The dancers wouldn't be like uhhhh your not allowed cause your not Irish.
Same for clothes.. if I'm a guy and want to wear stilettos I'll go f'in buy a pair and wear them. Might get some odd looks but I sure as hell wouldn't get a message popping up saying "unequipable". Might as well just build walls around each city state and nobody is allowed to ever leave their homeland cause "it's mine!!!!!"
Hair does differ from race to race generally. This is a video game of course and I know how you meant it as we all want more customization on our characters. I wish SE would go the route of continuing to make these great hairstyles but alter how they appear depending on the race.
^ this tbh
What we need is more lore and effort put in to differentiate the races, not more race-locked items tbh. It's why I actually really like the idea OP gave, since doing dance quests teaches you about each dance and therefor it would add actual in-game lore about each race rather than lore you can only learn via the lorebooks which you have to buy.
Agreed and unlock standing, sitting and sleeping poses as well as running animations and let players decide the type of characters they want to have/build, there no point in restricting us to "preset" personalities, this game lacks so much customization!...
You stay away from my Lalafell butt wiggle! >.>
I personally hate this all races should be the same business... Let us keep unique in some things at least. You want the Lalafell dance? Be a Lalafell and earn it!
