Extremely annoyed by market wards

So I'm a crafter trying to sell stuff on Selbina which, from what I can tell, is one of the higher populated servers with around 700min - 1600max pop.

Every time I try to pop my retainer in Ul'dah I get

You cannot summon any more retainers in this area.

Seriously? Right now there are 41 (1-50) in Limsa, 22 (1-50) in Gridania and 183 (1-50) in Ul'dah.

Why can't I put in retainer in Ul'dah?
Why would I even think of putting my retainer in a city that has 4-8 times less people in it?
Why do I have to even consider this?

I have seen nothing in any post from SE that even suggests this will be addressed in 2.0.

I realize that they want their 1USD for each retainer but...please...have some common sense, make all cities link together. If you want my 1USD for each retainer make a system that works for me!

FFXI did it, other MMO's do it.

This market ward system is so archaic I can't believe it's still in game.

I really want to like this game, I'm paying for the sub. If I can't sell anything because I'm forced to sell in a city that no one buys from...what's the point in crafting.

Plus, with a min-max pop of 700-1600...why is this even an issue?

It's 2012?????

I went to Limsa and put stuff up. I checked the market ward that I put it up in and it doesn't even show up!?

It says 0 for that item...even waiting 15 minutes. Was instantaneous when I put stuff up in Ul'dah before...what's going on?

Is this a bug?

Just to point out the issue of linked wards will be addressed in 2.0. :) as well as a lot of the other issues. Here is looking towards the future.

Really shows just how much trouble the code is for the servers is considering how many issues the markers have.

Well it's not nearly so bad here on Palamecia. Only the Crystallier's is THAT full regularly.

Well, for those of you not on the more populous servers, be prepared to encounter this after the merge. I can screenshot all the wards being full if someone doesn't believe it, but that would be a very long screenshot.

I finally managed to get one of my retainers in the Middle Tailor's Ward last night, after trying once daily (checking every ward in Ul'dah) for a week.

rent a stall then. i do it all the time. its only 500 gil per day(real time)

Yeah, didn't really consider that when thinking about the merges. On the bright side, maybe it'll get people out of Ul'dah and populate the other Market Wards (you heard me Brine and Kindling, go back to your own cities). Maybe the other empty wards were just a question of "not enough people to make space an issue."

Hey, the players asked them to not reset wards/they crashed too much. If it's a fail on anyone..it's not SE lol. Ward reset cleared emptied/no longer used retainers quite regularly.

Do they still get removed after 7 days of non-use? I seem to recall that, but I can't remember where...

Other than that they haven't done anything to hint at changing the current market scheme until 2.0 arrives.

The problem isn't the market ward concept but rather SE's implementation. Whatever designer thought it was an okay idea to have retainers sitting all over the bloody floor for seven days with no upkeep needs to be fired yesterday. What a horrible idea.

Market wards need to A) REQUIRE stalls for all merchants and B) automatically spawn one or two extra shards per wards as needed. There also needs to be some sort of incentive to plant your retainer somewhere besides Ul'dah.

Market wards are a nifty idea, but a horrible implementation. unfortunately, first impressions stay with people, which is likely why they're being forced towards the AH model.

It's not unlike the AH in XI, the only one that most players tended to use was the Jeuno/Tavnazia/Whitegate system, as those were the areas that people would frequent. In XIV, most people have decided that Ul'dah is the hub, with 2 retainers per player, I could see how that could quickly become an issue.

What I dislike the most is that you get kicked back to main menu after each purchase. I bought three Aquamarine rings yesterday and it sucked having to go through the menus three times to get them. And then there's the lag after each purchase...

Anyway, I'm sure the following patches will streamline the wards and the search function a bit, as it all feels very half-done as it is.

I got excited when I learned that I can buy from search funtion. but after trying it few times I went back to walking to the retainers themselves.

The game freeze that happens after the purchase is very long and annoying, not to mention the case where I need to buy multiple stacks.

Maybe 70% of the wards are full in Uldah on Mysidia. On the verge of completely lame but nothing can be done until server's fixed in 2.0 (hopefully)

As a practical matter, since you can't buy time in advance, it's 500 gil twice a day unless you can afford briefly losing the stall when you get to it slightly after your 24 hours expire.

45k for a level 12 Lance.

300k For a Felt Robe of Casting (Red)

30-40k on Ash Macuahuitl

Yeah alot of people can got to Hell for these prices.

No item in the game should be over 10k. It's all so common.

Apparently You missed the "We are remaking the market system from the ground up in 2.0" comment from he devs.

It's broken. We know. Get over it. Move on.

I must say it is hard to get your retainer up, but don't give up! I tried in almost all wards and it was full then I went out and about and came back and luckily there was room! I was able to move my retainer again to the correct market ward for the stuff he sale soon later too :> it's really a matter of luck now, it is effing annoying and horrid, yes, but just gotta do with what we have until they bring in 2.0

As mentioned before they will link all market wards in 2.0 that's as much info as we have, but I'm sure they should have more things in the pipe for mw.

Now that market wards have a search function (I especially like that you can put a star above anyone selling the item you want) it's much better than when I originally played at release.

That said, I believe an auction house is still necessary to replace the market wards. It just makes more sense from a gameplay standpoint.

I'd really like to know what direction we are going in with the market wards, even if the cities are merged. If more players come in there will just be more chaos. Will it be replaced by a FF11 style AH in the end when v2 comes along and how will the market wards exist later on? what will their purpose be? I'd rather the devs field some community involvement to avoid another failure, at least give us a cryptic poll on the directions sought.

Theres so many retainers with items for ridiculous prices its obvious players are just using the bazaar slots for extra storage space and not for selling. Granted when we get housing no one will probably use the wards again for that. It makes you sad that new players rage quit when that level 10 cruddy hat of a massive +1 mnd costs 50k and the community dwindles further. It almost makes you want to ask for hard caps on sale prices for certain ranks/items.

I still think there should be a normal AH, and then restrict market ward use to retainers per linkshell of certain sizes who could vendor rarer items (aka. rolanberry mart from 11), i.e. the only retainers in the wards shown would be of guild leaders, only people who can put up items in that retainer's bazaar are leaders/officers, all members can view/take at certain levels via summonable retainer, public can buy through brining up bazaar/sale menu. Would condense things down a lot and also make guilds more close in a way. It would make more sense as theres a handful of stalls compared to the 50 or more retainers in a ward. Turning the retainer into the guild bank would make things easier for ls's in the long run. Each person's second retainer could then be shifted off for use in personal housing/inn if even needed.

The problem also relates to others issues
1) that everyone is self sufficient at everything. Anyone can make anything as there are no restrictions on crafting unlike in other MMOs. There is too much selling going on and not enough buying. There need to be more restrictions/dependancies on others to get a community thriving. You can have stacks of items up for dirt cheap but they will take ages to sell because people can farm 99 of anything almost too quickly.
2) there are way too many items and a lot of people cant even cope with 2 retainers for their own gear, and in the next major patch we will have job gear x 7 jobs more items lol

The only thing that really annoys me about the wards is that I can just enter the ward and find the retainer itself instead of buying it from the menus. I don't like the extra price that goes with it as someone said earlier the gear itself is expensive. Early game gear is hard enough to buy with early game money you know. Though you can just call me an 'old dog' for this.

Gil sink, gear is only expensive because people like making 100-400% profit lol.
