Hi everyone, I'm new in the crafting jobs and I would like to know something about the cross skills. I know than it's better to level up all jobs to lvl50 in order to have the best cross skills but is that really difficult at lvl70 without them?

Depends on what you are crafting. If you are crafting NQ glamour items and furniture you can live without the items. If you are crafting level 70 0 or 1 star food you can probably live without a number of the skills (but you'll have to create your own rotation).
If you try to create 2 star or higher items you'll run into unpleasant problems. The level 50 cross class skills are entirely too required for crafting. SE really needs to fix the crafting cross class system, its a mess. -

While the HQ bar is only 1/2 on the macro, that means with HQ materials it can be done with reasonable reliability.

Well the goal for me is being totally independant. Being capable of doing my own build like the 350 ones, my own food, my own potions, my own materia. All those kind of things.

If your goal is to be independent then level them all. Use leves to get to 50 and I targeted repeatable leves personally. Then after 50 if you still have leves do them but otherwise start doing collectibles. The only difference with Collectibles and Leves is you have more forgiveness on a collectible. Of course you would like max collectibility but the minimum rating is often around 50-75% of the rating bar. You should also be able to do the weekly turn-ins starting at 50. Personally I would take cooking to 70 first so you can also start farming yellow scrips and it is the most independent crafter when it comes to cross materials.
Also if you don't have gathering classes then you should do that too. -

03-16-2018, 03:13 PMFrizzeIf the goal is independence, then you need to level everything period. All crafters, all gatherers, and at least one combat class. Lets you make your own subcombines. So if you want to make a suit of armor and no one is selling the type of leather used in the recipe(or no one is selling for a reasonable price anyway) you can: kill the animal for the skin, mine up the reagents to cure it, and process that leather yourself.Quote:

I should have clarified 2.5 star or higher. None the less its nice to know there are some options to craft some 2 star things =-) Keep in mind you're both crafting with your super awesome 3 star stats though. But as you're showing possibility exists, but the requirements for up front quality and gear are stiff.
SE really should have fixed this though, cross-class skills should just be base available across the board for all classes. -

They started in that direction with the moves every crafter learns from 61 through 70.
Personally, I believe that Specialists should get access to *all* the cross class moves, 15, 37, 50 just for equipping the stone... and the 54 cross class moves once the Specialist hits 61. That would have done enough to actually accomplish what they said they wanted to do with Specialists when they introduced the system (allow them to compete with omnicrafters). -

Well in all reality there are a lot less cross class used now then in the past. I can get away with PbP, TotT, SHandII, Byregot's Blessing, MaMa and Innovation. I am no longer using Reclaim, Waste Not (1/2) or a lot of the other abilities. Hasty Touch still has it's uses in some rotations I am doing.

Hi again, I have an other question. All things considered, the only crafters than I want to have at 70 are culinarian and alchemist (for food and potions obviously). Do I still need to level all other ones to lvl 50 to get cross skills or can I just let them to lvl 15 ? (I still have the attention to level all gatherers to 70)

Leatherworker - lv15 Waste Not, lv50 Waste Not II: Poor LTW cross class skills are rendered obsolete by Manipulation II
Min Recommendation: ignore
Weaver - lv15 Careful Synthesis, lv50 Careful Synthesis II: like BSM, you will want 1 of these because it is a 0 CP synthesis step. Basically used for the completion step after burning all your CP on quality. You can live without it, as Careful Synthesis III exists for CP7.
Min Recommendation: level to 15
