DEF: regarding stats. in-game bug.

I don't really want to get into detail as to why I do the same damage, and take hardly no notable extra damage on mobs of level 50 at Lv. 50 with gear off or on. Though I do have a question.

regarding patch 1.20 there was information given,

Strength
- attack power
- damage dealt by puglist, gladiator, marauder, and lancer arms

Vitality
- damage taken
- enhancement magic potency
- maximum HP
- damage dealt by marauder arms

Dexterity
- Accuracy
- Block Rate
- Parry
- Damage dealt by archer arms

Intelligence
- Attack magic potency
- Damage dealt by puglist arms

Mind
- Healing magic potency
- magic Accuracy
- Damage dealt by gladiator, thaumaturge, and conjurer arms.

Piety
- magic evasion
- enfeebing magic potency
- Max MP
- Damage dealt by archer, lancer, thaumaturge, and conjurer arms.


in-game; under point allotment. If you scroll over the stats, it gives you a description of what each stat does. Where in the world did the Defs in the patch notes get "Damage dealt by archer, lancer, thm, con." tied in with Piety for example. It makes perfect sense to be STR & DEX.

If I was a new player, playing a DAMAGE CLASS, and someone who doesn't read patch notes for example, I would very well read the description, the game gives under point allotment, and go with STR & DEX.

which is wrong. the game or the patch notes? (all the stats not just piety)

it's wrong assuming they're wrong. Maybe they can implement better description ingame, but patch notes are right

their both contradicting each other though is my point. If you point your mouse over the words in the point allotment and read what it says, its nothing what was listed in the patch notes, SO think about all those people who just put points where they normally would go, im just concerned there isnt enough information about this..

None are wrong. It'd be an extra line of text in the help text. We all hate clutter, right?

PIE is used to modify damage of LNC and ARC.
INT for PUG.


EDIT: Getting my thoughts out. Why does Piety affect how well you use a lance or bow? I mean, inb4realisminfinalfantasy but how on earth does that make any sense?

INT for PUG is somewhat understandable seeing as it's sort of physical DD that deals elemental damage, but its not like anyone even uses PUG.

but so does STR, it is saying that you can place points in both. for instance....

if I had just a strait up GLA, I would be doing STR/DEX/VIT
but if I wanted a CON/GLA (or basis for Paladin), I would be placing points in STR/DEX/VIT/MND
now that mind would still be giving me damage + so the fewer points I have in STR wont matter.

Now even without said info I would have done the same, STR/DEX for the DD part of GLA, and VIT/MND for the Paladin part

I think something like this will just end up biting the developers in the ass when your typical MMO player who doesnt go into depth on things, ya know the guy who wants to buy a mmo, play it to have FUN and not bore themselfs down with statistics/maths/facts and will just go with what makes sense "i want to hit harder, aka more strength", which would be wrong.

I think it should be simplistic, but some suck into this illusion of diversity.

we can only postulate the formulas
There are so many possibilities.

2 possibilities are:

1. Here is my speculated example of the new Formula (Purely Hypothetical, numbers are completely arbitrary and do not directly relate to any in game stats)
*disclaimer: Level May or may not play a part in the formula, however for the sake of this demonstration, lvl difference will be excluded*

This is similar to FFXI, which had a ranged formula.. and a melee formula across all classes

(Damage output + Attack) - (Def) = Delta(Att)
Each value may have a modifier as well as a min/max attached to it

(Str - Vit) = Delta(Str)
Each value may have a modifier as well as a min/max attached to it

the modifiers could even be (and by that I mean probably are) dependent on a dice roll (RNG)

The damage you deal is then made up of some relationship between Delta(Att) and Delta(Str).
For Example: Delta(Str) could define the range of possible damage values and Delta(Att) could determine where in that range the actual attack damage lands
All physical damage would work like this for all classes that can do physical damage

For Lancer, Str and Pie possibly modified by a random number would then apply a bonus to your Auto Attack

2. the second possibility is that each class has a different damage formula Just like each weapon has a different damage formula in FFXII
In this... the 2 stats represent more than just a bonus applied at the end. They are actually part of the initial formula

For Instance your Str and Piety would check against the MOBs Vit....
and your Damage output + attack would check against the MOBs Def

It would make sense seeing that all melee classes have Str as one of their defining attributes

The two attribute modifiers are purely for auto-attack. STR and DEX are still necessary for WSs. It's not complicated at all.
