Final Fantasy and Potions

When you think of Final Fantasy, you think of a few things. Airships, Chocobos, and Phoenix downs.

I under stand FFXI never had them, but since it feels like they trying to make XIV more Final fantasy feeling. And with the ALC synths being fixed in a few patches they should look into adding a lot more potions, and removeing the whole 3 min timer on using them. Also make it so they arnt so hard to make as in XI. Megaelixirs should be only potion that is rare, hard to get.

EDit Prob should put this pst, in the items thread oh well maybe the devs will move it.

I agree, make potions more useful!

One of the many things coming in 1.21 is the medicine effect revamp. Hopefully they get it right this time.

People argue having potions and more so, Phoenix downs, make the game too easy... to which I argue, does Phoenix downs make Emerald or ruby weapon too easy? I'm sure the average person doesn't look at those fights and say, oh... all I had to do was us phoenix downs to win... now this is suddenly a no brainer.

Making them useful but still situational. yes!
Make them spammable and your main source for healing. No!
i dont want to be able to run around with 999 potions and use them every 5 seconds to cure myself like in other MMOS.

out of curiosity, which MMOs actually allow this?

As for potions being useful, yes please. It's potions should be play a larger role in the game. Such as drinking potions when you can not recover MP fast enough to finish a fight, or TP potions and so forth. Or maybe even make a class that uses potions exclusively in combat.

The only other issue with potions in FFXIV is how ridiculously convoluted it is to use it. First you hit U, then you have to scroll around to find the potion you want to use, then finally you have to make sure the selection target is targeting you and not the enemy which it targeting by default. By any chance if you did try to use the potion at the enemy you have to repeat the process all over again. Granted, you can always write a macro to use the potion like in FFXI, but that is no excuse for having such a poor UI design for real time combat.

Obvious changes include
- The ability to set in the action bar (ease of use)
- Increased stack size
- A recast visible on the action bar (I hope)

Obvious in-development picture is obvious. We may not get all that cool stuff, but we can certainly hope.

Oh ho, havent looked at that pic in months good to see, just hope they do it right. As for spamign potions to sstay alive i dont see why not, if you have them

I used an Aether. Once.

I'd like to see them changing the potency of potions to make the actually worth using if they intend to keep the long timer.

Ragnarok Online would be one example. Instant-effect, zero cooldown heal for about 800.

I do. If they do that, you will be forced to have several stacks of them on you in every battle, which will make ALC ridiculously rich, inflate the economy and potentially make healing classes useless.

That's a worst case scenario of course.

Well, i mainly mean say healer dies, and every one has potions to save tank. Like an offline Final Fantasy i see nothign wrong with it as a temp save in a big fight, but yes it shoudl in no way be a way to replace healers all together. This is mainly to bring more of a Final Fantasy feel into MMO, something I feel FFXI didnt do well.

I remember a WoE (Ragnarok on 2004/5, pre rebirth and advance classes) i was defending the castle with my guild that a Knight enter on the defense and last like 8-10 min drinking potions, he tell us after it that he use like 500 potions. But well that 500 potions were like 1k each and 500k on that time was a lot of money to burn that quickly.

Anyway, on XI all potions were intant-effect with no cooldown but the best ones give medicament status that dont let you use another potion that also give that status. So you can spam normal potions but mega-elixirs by example you can use 1 by every 30 min if you don't die.

I used to tank CoP Lv30-40 content spamming Hi-Potions+3's as PLD and WAR. (Depending on the fight and class) and It made fights waaaaay too easy.

I'd like a "Use time" of lets say 3~ seconds, and a wait of 10~15 seconds or so, this way you don't main heal, but use in problem situations.

Basically if it's a fight ur gonna lose, you'll only get one off, and if it's a fight you coulda barely won, then you will only need 1.

You would only get 2 in, if u didn't need it.

Super Long cool downs, and lack of stacking them is a bit over board imo. (Along with minimal effects, where you might as well just use an attack, as an attack was more effective than trying to heal.)

Keep the cooldowns, if not increase them, but make ethers grant decent amounts of MP, 50mp is barely enough for any spell at higher levels.

For FFXIV to turn into 'pot spammer online' like so many korean mmo's would be tragedy.

not many people lvled alchemy cause of its pointless. when they redo potions the alchemists stand to make a killing. i think ill lvl it to 40 or so just in case:)

Pheonix downs already exist in the game.. they are just called "Company Issued Tonic" and cost 200 (?) GC seals. I have used them several times and are great in a pinch. You can only carry one though. But do agree on potion revamp :)

i got a potion on a quest called kiss of the morning meadow or something that that. it says instantly restores mp upon use.

Those are actually the GC Ethers, you can only have one of them at a time and, they're pretty semi-decent but still not good enough :(

give phoenix down a 5min or 10min recharge, or can carry 2 or 3 max in your inventory. Potions, elixers and such I want more of those. Also I want them on my action bar.

I made this thread over a year ago I think? Basically went into more detail, but I agree. Potions are a FF staple, and theyre fun.

How the heck? Oo They dont even stack in xi lol did you have 0 macro gear? The only time I did this was in the maat fight when I melee'd him down with my thf (steal tactic = phhhht, hes a 3 min melee). I still couldnt do this in xi with 80 slots much less when it was 30 lol
