So, how long do you give it before Balmung is re-locked?
I hope it won't be less than a couple of hours, I need to come back from work and make mah alts o3o
Is it open? Just tried, still locked.
It'll be locked within a week, I suspect. Too many people will be seeking to flock to Balmung given the infamy of the server and regrets about departing it in the first place. It's already consistently busy so I suspect we'll see Aether brought down as a consequence just like the good old days.
If we complain enough maybe a day or two.
Such messages are always shown in the loader. Or you can look at the lodestone. Just start the loader, no need to start the game, and you'll have the message. It's going to be on 20th, by the way.
On a different note, an advice. Never, ever, delete anything in any game, unless to instantly replace it with something else (if there are slot limitations). It never gave anyone anything, but it screwed up many people. If you don't need it, just don't log onto it.
As long as I can bring my friends from Hyperion over here, then I'm more than happy.
Two minutes.
If nothing else, the forum should be entertaining when Balmung crashes Aether and inevitably blocks a lot of people on other servers out of having a fair chance of acquiring a house for themselves... :p
I'll feel a lot of sympathy for those people.
I'll be generous and say a week.
Are there really that many roleplayers in FF14? I mean, why would you go to a server with that many issues unless you're a roleplayer? Or is it all just a bunch of horny teenage boys?
I hope the developers will be ready to hit that emergency maintenance "button" because I can't see anything going smoothly.
Yes, enough to fill at least 3 servers now on Aether and at least one or two on the other NA data centers. Just like there are multiple RP servers on WoW, Guild Wars 2, ESO, etc. And thinking it's all eRP and "horny teenage boys" is horribly narrow-minded.
Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder are still popular (if not growing more popular thanks to streaming), and go figure, a lot of those types enjoy Fantasy MMOs. There are people who like to goof off with very laid back and more "social" RP and then you have those that craft novel-length campaigns and play them out in the game world. They basically make their own content while waiting for SE to drop new stuff. I'd argue the RP community is about equal to the hardcore raiding community in terms of numbers, if not potentially has more people since it's easier to get into. They're just more prone to grouping in the same servers because you can't always just cross-server for events and stuff.
I mean I'm curious about making an alt on one of these servers just to see what the running "must be from Balmung" gag is about.
Yeah, it's a weird thing. We're just another server. Just happens to have a lot of RP going on in Ul'dah.
If you like buying things from the MB, it is nice to have so many crafters and gatherers out there keeping things well stocked. Prices tend to be a lot lower over here than on smaller servers.
rip aether
Just another server? Have you played on other servers? I am really not all that into RPing but I enjoy the player ran events on Balmung. My "main" started out on Faerie and then I moved to Balmung after 2 years of playing and my alt progressed further than my "main" in 2 months. I've played and owned houses on a few other servers and ended up selling them because no place really compares to Balmung. I really don't understand why people can't see Balmung's appeal.
Well, I've been here since launch. I don't RP, I'm not a huge social bug, and I've never seen events hosted here. :X Not saying they don't exist, but it's just not what I'm looking - so for me, it's just another server - with a rather nice MB :P
Oh, the lack of RMT /tells is amazing as well ;)
I don't roleplay, but I was put on Balmung because of the server merges during 1.0. That said, I already had ties/friends from the get-go so transferring off was not viable for me, and now I am pretty much too invested in the server to ever leave.
Anyway, the forum never fails to entertain. Until next week, guys!
The only RPing I have done is someone with an RP icon was looking at me so I started walking away. Then they started following me so I started running. Then they started running so I sprinted into an Inn and set my status to busy and queued for a Duty Roulette out of panic. It’s not really an RP moment but it was my first experience.
(I didn’t even have an RP icon.)
They’re unlocking Balmung and unlocking individual house purchases at the same time? Buying a small personal house just got a lot more “interesting” X_x
Aether is going to have the return of Rahaban savage, Pipin EX, and Civ Ultimate if things go the way they might. I also might have to *shudder* start blacklisting people and kicking people from novice network for RMT. That was one of the GOOD things about Balmung: no RMT tells, no RMT parties, etc. Even non RP'ers have to agree about the lack of RMT.
Nobody on the other servers of Aether will be able to play that day...
I don't like Balmung as much as the next guy, but jeez, the hyperbole in this thread is pretty strong.
Raubahn EX was bad because the total population of the Aether data center was too high in general, redistributing the population within the different servers in the data center wouldn't even be a factor in that.
Balmung has crashed Aether before with it's lopsided distribution. This is what we're afraid of happening again especially combined with the rush that accompanies any housing release.
Everyone logging on for housing at the same time, combined with a rush to create new characters on Balmung all zoning into the starting areas at the same time. That's a pretty solid thumb on one end of the scales.
Here's to hoping everything goes better than expected though.
It's possible it might not be open to alt creation and only be open to world transfer services. Gilgamesh is locked as well if you try to make alts at peak hours.
Blah I hate over populated servers either in real life or in games my introverted personality can't stand crowds.
Let's not forget about Gilgamesh, which was also a highly populated server before it's population died down after it had become a congested server. It was a combination of those two servers on the same datacenter that caused crashes.
Yea, I dunno why people seem to suddenly be forgetting about the standard restriction on character creation. Even before Balmung became a congested server, it was often only possible to create characters in the few minutes after a maintenance had ended.
I'm not trying to lay blame exclusively at the feet of Balmung, I just wanted to clarify why the feathers are getting ruffled with this announcement. Sure, Gilgamesh and Balmung crashed Aether, multiple times. Lets hope their time in isolation has been enough to reduce their populations to non-issue causing proportions.
You mean like.. the few minutes after the patch goes live and where everyone usually logs in to buy their house? *eek* There was no delay when they went live for FCs. I highly doubt they'll do the delay for the personal, lets hope though.
Ahahaha, this is priceless, I say we see an emergency maintenance around 2-3 hours later when the transfer requests and new char creation makes Yoshi realize how naive he was.
There seriously is no saving Balmung - I'm so Grateful to be on a EU center!
The circlejerking on this thread is pretty unreal.
I don't think Balmung was supposed to be unlocked either, but really.
They probably did something different like set something up and are testing this new idea. So it's gonna be interesting to see what happens. Good luck to them and even if it doesn't work, hopefully they have a much better idea on what to do next.
