What is everyones thoughts on how the dev team used ripoffs of the zeta weapons as the appearance for the 350 craftable weapons? I myself have mixed feelings about it. I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

They're just weapons, I did them a long time ago... they also dye horribly, they have this gaudy copper/bronze metal to them that doesn't dye or go well with pretty much anything.
Does anyone know if they did it because people actually wanted something like this or did they basically just run out of ideas lol?
I honestly don't know at this point. Despite claims of being given a larger budget than ever, this expansion has been one reused model after rehashed idea after new-but-wholely-uninspiring model after another. Honestly (bearing in mind that I only really play WHM, so I'm only considering healer gear in this), the only new items I can really see myself saving to use again and again in future are the Shisui set and the new 'Republican' PvP set? Even then, neither set is really suited to everyday use.
And now that I've seen the models for the Fashion Report gear I'm really starting to wonder if their gear designer just up and quit or keeled over from the stress of putting together the expansion or something, since even the female version is pretty uninspiring, and the male version is a new all-time low in a field I was already pretty sure had hit rock bottom.
EDIT: I SHOULD say that I couldn't care less about exclusivity or some silly idea that these crafted models make my relic less 'special'. I'm even for reusing models in certain capacities, especially if those models dye differently. My worry stems from just how common reused models have been recently, rather than any especial concern about the principle of reusing them.
They don't have the glow..so I'm just indifferent towards them.
They don't make my weapon look any worse. Personally I have no interest in them.
"special snowflake"-wise it doesn't have the exact same look (no glow) and it gives people options who liked the actual models to have a weapon without doing the insane grind associated with it. People who did it can still feel special and others can update their look.
cool.
As an owner of 3 zetas, I’m not bothered in the slightest. The zetas still have the glow effects to themselves.
Well they made new designs for tome, raid, pvp, byakko, eureka and misc glams so they have to cut corners for the dungeon and crafted sets in the same patch. I wouldn't say they are providing less than the past because each expansion the number of systems in the game to maintain goes higher.
These days they have to keep adding updates to things like treasure map dungeons, fish tanks, squadrons, workshops, custom deliveries, Feast; lots of features they didn't have in 2.x. Back then they could double down resources on amount of dungeon and trial per patch.
Now it's 15 jobs to balance instead of 10 and it'll be higher next xpac. So, resources spread more thinly to an ever increasing amount of features. Next deep dungeon is trying to squeeze in there somewhere.
If you can get the mats to make them for a quick upgrade, it's a steel.
I only got one of the weapons though so I could better farm Byakko until I got my pld sword/shield and my healer weapons.
Also, they ugly, couldn't care less about re-hashed weapon designs for stuff that's gonna be obsolete rather quickly.
Terrible precedence and I'm still pretty miffed about it. Waiting for them to swipe the Anima model for the i380 set in 4.4 to be honest, and don't trust them to not take other forms of the Zodiac and Anima - maybe even including one or more of the glowing versions - in future releases.
If anything the fact that they look like crap just makes it worse. At that point just use some generic lv1 model and be done with it; why grab something like the Zodiac? Who does that please?
Without the Glow, most of the weapons look rather dull to be honest.
And if you think into the future of possible Anima Weapon "rip offs"; can you imagine how awful some of those glow-less weapons will look? For example, the WHM Anima weapon sprouts green wings when unsheathed...but without that elaborate glow...it's pretty boring.
FF reuses assests all the time in general, esspecially with monsters. As for this game did all of you forget what happened to the WAR Anima relic? :p
the crafted sets for the time being seem to be older gear but a little different and dye-able if it wasn't already
I think it's a decent enough way to get old 24 man sets with dye enabled and the weapons being zeta without the glow was interesting to see how plain they look with the lights turned off
Or even charging $18 for reused assets from the Amazon campaign regarding the Butler/Maid attire just added to mogstation.
As a crafter - As long y'all buy them i'll make them. Gimme yo gils
As a DOW/DOM i think they are a great way as a catch up weapon until Byakko clear/tome weapon/Diamond
In terms of the design choise itself, idgaf they don't glow and i also already have most of them, with glow.
Most of us is veterans of the game and know SE history or reusing assets.
Don't really care. No glow and it's not really worth the gil to buy them imo. Byakko EX is super easy to farm for gears for the alt classes.
For a really good reason. While doesn't apply to me in Scandinavia region since we could just grab our DLC codes from Gamestop but there was plenty countries in the PAL region that was left out so for those people are most likely happy it's in the mogstation. Maybe not happy about the price and single character but still.
These items should have been free and in-game. They need to stop supplementing their profits with new items behind a your wallet and make content that keeps people subbed longer.
Past seasonal events in mogshop, sure. But brand new items going directly to the store in a subscription based MMO will always look greedy no matter how any white knight spins it.
Dark knight already got one of their anima weapon reskinned (Nothung), so everyone else getting theirs later is very likely.
And machinist basically got a generic leveling weapon, though it can be dyed for the first time. Armageddon must have been too cool to be given as crafted weapon at this point in time.
Honestly they look like a much worse replicas of the zodiac weapons, like we tried to recreate what gerolt did but failing miserably, it's not really a big deal in the end
This is a frequent misconception. All the Asian inspired outfits are not technically new. At least not for us. They're designed at the behest of whatever third party publishing company SE allows to release FFXIV in China and Korea. Bear in mind, people's perception on cash shops, and even P2W, are decidedly different in those regions. Because they perceive time a far better investment, many Korean players won't even look at a MMO that doesn't have a pay option. (Crazy, right?) It's among the biggest hurdles when Korean MMOs get ported State side. Many companies don't realize just how utterly despised P2W is outside Asian Countries. We only have these outfits due to player demand. As they had to pay, so do we.
Anywho! Back on topic. I really don't care. The Zetas are nearly three years old and look better overall, regardless. Now from an Omni-crafter perspective. Please buy all of them! I like your gil. :D
The ingredients aren't bad to make, and the weapons aren't specialist locked, so that is an improvement. There's still generally low supply since in practice people become omnicrafters to make them. The model; eh, most of the in game models are bad anyways.
I have all the zetas and idgaf. They don’t glow like the real zetas do. They are a cheap imitation at best.
Kinda disappointed they used a re-skinned Schlaeger for the Silvergrace Rapier. It took ages to get that to drop and I like having a unique and exotic looking weapon. I don't care much for the nightsteel stuff though.
I don't like the precedent it sets. That said, most of these have horrible coloring jobs. Actually, that was true of the last crafted WoD set too. Yeah it's dyable, but the red jewels + green-gold metal? Really doesn't go with much like the original raid gear. Or in this case, the original weapons. So long as this trend continues and the weapons don't have the glow effects, I'll be okay with it.
Indeed. Which is hilarious since (non-Hyperconductive, that "glow" is ass) Nothung is far and away the best form of the DRK Anima in my opinion. I glamoured the Cronus/Lux after they released the Nightsteel stuff since, generic base model aside, at least the glowing runes are nice even though I dislike the glow effects pointy bits.
The fact that they took the Zodiac models once means that, to them (Square), nothing is sacred and everything is available for reskin purposes. Like they didn't grab the glowing versions this time, but they probably will in the future. Doubly so since, as per usual, most of the community seems to be totally fine with it.
The Zodiac models haven't been relevant for three or more years, ffs. They've been pointless busywork for that long, the time limit of "oh this cool thing is exclusive and cool" passed the moment SE seriously thought it was a good idea to let people trade them in to skip the first step of HW anima. It's not that big of an issue.
Most crafted patch weapons have had this ugly dull copper finish for awhile and these have been no exception. Wondering if the uglyness is intentional as to encourage people to do their ex primals, that's definately how I felt about PotD's weapons at least.
The Zeta stats haven't been relevant for nearly three years. The model, by way of glamour, has. That has always been half the appeal of the things since, until the final stage, the relics are lackluster beyond their customizable stats (which won't be as big of a deal now that we don't have accuracy as a stat).
Or are the precious glamglams not endgame anymore? This game has no endgeamz anymore?!
Oh you mean that part where you turned it in to skip farming Luminous Crystals and simultaneously made it easier to purchase the Zodiac replicas. 'Cause y'know, lugging your Zeta over to Hyrstmill every time you want Drake to recognize that you're allowed to buy the previous stages of that weapon was pretty okay design.Quote:

Disclaimer: I didn't turn in any of my Zetas. Used the FATEs to level jobs while gathering the Crystals instead.

Have fun grinding out that dyeable AF3 armor so they can just make a super easy to get reskin in 5.x/6.x. Bonus pointsifwhen your retainer just randomly brings one back to you one day.
